McPhat Studios - developing any more for XP?
Ben Russell replied to Thywillbedone's topic in General Discussion
I had a 1992 toyota 4wd with acid-rain pock marked clear coat that I absolutely _thrashed_ through the undergrowth, to the point of using it for land-clearing..... it STILL looked better glossier than that v-stab texture. -
McPhat Studios - developing any more for XP?

I find McPhat use way too much "wear" ...... it just doesn't sit right with me, especially when it's got brand new 15-layer clear coat on it. Like this: What the hell have they been flying through? Shrubbery? And here's what it probably looked like freshly coated in reality: ...sure, it's "fifteen year old paint" or whatever... it just doesn't sit right with me. The more detail you add the closer to reality you need to be, the amount of texture noise they use just puts me off. Comparisons? Don't know. I don't really care that much for external paint work. I only started picking them apart because you put them on a pedestal and asked a question... They do have ultra high def detail, but is it ultra-real...? I'm not convinced. -

McPhat, where we clear coat over everything, including the algae.... ...they definitely have a style to them, and it's definitely NOT to my tastes. -
Under most circumstances the NOAA plugin seems to serve people very well. There are bugs where it either: - Doesn't pull down the most recent WX data, or any data at all. - It sets absurd values for various weather parameters. As it's free these are probably an acceptable trade off for something that works most of the time. Your mileage may vary...

The NOAA plugin has multiple bugs.

Not easily... better off waiting for the developer to respond. FWIW; I checked the SkyMAXX plugin for this string: does not exist. I check the Gizmo source code for this string: does not exist.

If the SASL scripts are not encrypted try searching them for the string: sim/weather/use_real_weather_bool If you find it, change it to something like: sim/weather/use_real_weather_bool_DISABLED There's very little reason for any plugin to write to this dataref. XSB and IVAO need to because they have the ability to set "network weather". Something like an aircraft should never write to this as it is not a WX injector, I'd be very surprised if I found a package that was doing so. It's also not the kind of thing that could happen randomly, you'd be far more likely to see the simulator crash than to have this exact dataref be written with a sane value... Strange, very strange.

Personally, I suspect XSquawkbox, but seeing as no one ever posts a log file, who's to actually know. One things for sure, it won't be a bug in X-Plane itself.

Making the GNS-530 simulator work with X-Plane was one of the first things I did with X-Plane. I will not waste any more of my time on this.

You purchased a product for X-Plane 9. Be thankful it works at all in version X-Plane 10. It is YOUR responsibility to do your research before purchase.

I just wanted to extend my thanks to everyone for the patience through the holiday period. Family has gone home and life has returned mostly to normal now that the Christmas peak has passed. I will be resuming the hunt for bugs and fixes later today. The entire team here appreciates your desire to have a smooth experience inside X-Plane and I was personally a little conflicted about taking time off when we have known outstanding issues to resolve. So thanks... we all need a little time out now and then.

They probably consider the X-Plane market too small and too fickle to bother with. Their work was mostly greeted with "why would you buy that when you can do the same with free stuff found here ____ here ___ and here ____". A successful business is obligated to be run in a manner that makes money and a viable return on investment. That's why MSFS killed ACES. They can use the same investment in wages and research resources to make MUCH better money in other areas, including practically any area of gaming.

no cockpit lighting on computer 2 in network

Network synch of custom plugin functionality is NOT built in to X-Plane and should NOT be expected to work correctly. -
Douglas DC-3 Version 1.4 Update Released!
Ben Russell replied to Cameron's topic in Douglas DC-3 (no longer in use)
That's normal. Gizmo will only pop that dialog if you get an error, which will be tagged in red. The rest of the data is purely for developer debug. -
Douglas DC-3 Version 1.4 Update Released!
Ben Russell replied to Cameron's topic in Douglas DC-3 (no longer in use)
That's a weird error. Somethings not installed correctly. However, the quick fix is this: Delete the folder: X-Plane/resources/plugins/Gizmo64.plugin/firmware/extensions/FileBrowser FileBrowser is just convenience utility that no payware product relies on at this point, deleting it should get you going again and sometime in future we can address why you're seeing the error at all. Hope that helps. -
If you want to be super technical, don't use the term "real time" with the term "6 hour cycle" in the same sentence. There's nothing real-time about the NOAA forecast data.

The Saab upgrade has a significant optimisation of the sound engine code. I will go out on a limb and say that there is a guaranteed FPS gain to be had for every single machine that runs it, regardless of GPU type or RAM installed, or even CPU clock speed. On top of that, there is an additional optimisation that has been identified in Gizmo itself; the code that draws fonts for all the CRT display screens. This will come later, probably early in the new year.

99.9999999% of my smart ass pictures are served raw from Google, it's a rare day that I bother to put a caption...... I can assure you that the work is not mine. My YouTube channel is restricted to dry boring tech demo videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/Inddii/videos As bad as each other? For the most part, sure... I consider it something of a sporting rivalry at this point. No one bats an eye when two teams exchange verbal banter to try and get the upper hand, or when two men stand toe to toe trying to look tough after 2 days of deliberately induced strength sapping dehydration. At least we try and avoid collateral damage.... "they" get all sorts of by-catch in their nets... And you're right, at the end of the day, it is fuelling a rivalry, so the customer wins. Sometimes people wish that this political rift didn't exist.... I'd take a bunch of raw attitude over the high and mighty crap service that a mega-corp like EA/etc dish out on a title by title basis. People hate the corporate disconnect, but long for the sterile service attitudes, while having full access to the dev team all at once. It's great fun from this side of the show. Life is messy. Have a laugh. Saab? Not sure.... My focus is Gizmo.

I found this a few weeks ago... No idea who made it or where it came from but you know things are absurd when they start making Nazi parody videos about your "culture". and before anyone get's their nose out of shape over something trivial and ultimately hilariously childish.... I'll close my post with this, from a truly great mind of our time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdWKQ36JkwE

Org rules apply to the entire internets. You probably made too many posts here.

I was queued permanently. (along with pretty much every other payware author that doesn't subscribe to their bullshit.) When I mentioned it publicly it was escalated so that I'm now restricted from even posting a draft. Why ban and look bad when you can simply muzzle and have people "disappear". ...one might say it's underhanded and subversive... but those would be Dan's words, and Dan can do no wrong.

After 29mins 30seconds code had leaked nearly 940mb. Definite problem. Now to try and fix it... Still don't know why more people aren't complaining about it.
-
Tweaked some code so that Mac/Win/Lin all share the same code path. This gives me a more accurate test environment on my Mac... Now seeing a leak that "lost" 120mb in the first 8 minutes. I still find it strange that no one else sees such a dramatic problem.

If you take the time to review the product page at X-Aviation I think you'll find the product delivers exactly what it says. X-Plane has never had distant clouds, this is a very long standing issue, so we haven't removed anything there. In fact, last time I tested the default clouds, X-Plane couldn't even cope with NEAR clouds that were partially in view, very large chunks of cloud formations pop-in and pop-out as you rotate around the compass. The default effect is laughable. So laughable that for years I've been flying CAVOK so I can completely avoid the default. Here is the product page for easy access: http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/skymaxx-p-101.html Take a minute to watch the slideshow, it shows a bunch of different items, including a nice lightning strike. Would it be nice to have distant cloud formations? Absolutely. Unfortunately, X-Plane only provides data for the weather that is very localised around the aircraft. Because of this ALL the plugins that feed X-Plane data from NOAA or METAR files ALSO can only provide localised weather data. There is absolutely no data available to X-Plane about distant weather. NONE. You can use the built in METAR or the NOAA plugin, both of them only care about a very small area of air space. SkyMAXX was never advertised as a weather-injector. It's advertised as a visual effects change.
