Those clouds look awesome. I fear the ones in my version of XP10 (.11, 32-bit, with my settings the way they are) look like dirty little cotton balls. I don't find the plausibly realistic.

I'd consider flying for a VA that offered routes with the JS32, MU-2B, CRJ200, or BK117. Maybe the C208, too. I have a group in FSE, and that's essentially what I use for my VA purposes (coupled with XACARS). Would be nice to have more people to interact with, maybe. I'm not sure I have much freeware even installed (beyond what comes with XP). On the other hand, it's your VA and if you're happy with it, do it!

Somewhere over western Turkey tonight: The mist (overcast?) was rolling down over the mountains and out over the sea:

Great shot, woweezowee. Looks real!

Get out! I remember trying it in some earlier version of XP10, but had problems with something or other (trim? gauges? I don't recall, alas). If it works in 10.11, I'll have to take mine out again for sure!

Great Moo shots, edwin. I should fire up XP9 to take her out again. Hopefully some day soon we'll have her in XP10!

I'm curious if it would be possible to set XP for "start with engines running" or whatever, as a workaround. Probably not, though.

Thanks, Steve. I don't mind paying, but I can't seem to find anything (well, you've pointed me at a freebie, which is cool). I have the old STMA B1900, which is a lot like a B350, but not quite the same and it really doesn't seem quite right in XP10 (my recollection, haven't tried it recently). I was looking for the B350 for use in FSE, but the performance between that and the JS32 might be close enough to fudge it. Hrmm. Anyway, thanks for the input!

I've searched in the file library here, and even tried to search the forum, but couldn't come up with anything useful. Google was not terribly helpful, but maybe my search-fu is weak. Is there a good quality K350 for X-Plane? I'd prefer XP10, but could live with XP9.

Nice shots, Edwin. I haven't taken the CRJ200 up in quite some time. I think the last time I did, I grew frustrated rather quickly. LOL.

Ooh, I wonder if I can fire up the installed in Fusion and point it at my XP10 install on the native OSX drive. Hrmm.

That's great, John. Will you also be releasing CloudMAXX for OSX? Does UrbanMAXX impact FPS at all (for good or bad0? One last question...is UrbanMAXX Extreme v2 3D OSX ready/compatible? If so, I'll buy it today and support your 3rd party development effort. Sorry to turn your debate on realism into a pre-sales support thread. :S To get it back on topic, I did read a comment on your site from someone which asserted that photo scenery is a move backwards from the XP10 design goal of 'plausible realism.' I understand what they're saying, but until the hardware is capable of supporting the sim rendering dynamic 3D based on the underlying terrain/land use type, I'm not sure there is an alternative. Kudos to Austin for forward thinking and building the engine now, but I don't think we're anywhere near that (plausible?) reality.

I've looked at your *Maxx packages, but it's not clear to me that they (or which ones) will work on OSX. I thought I read a blurb somewhere that they were/are Windows only. The skies in particular were what attracted me, so I'm with you on the garish, fluorescent colors hitting a pleasure center thing.

+1001 (although I'm still really enjoying the JS32)

ENGINE ICE PROTECTION usage question
cruster replied to arb65912's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
I experienced my first full-on icing incident today. Holy smokes, what a riot. For a while the anti-ice was doing a great job (it was cool watching the ice 'chunks' disappear from the prop cones!), but eventually it just couldn't keep up. I had to rapidly descend from FL130 down to about 3500 before it all melted off. Awesome amount of fun! -
Icing?

Thanks, Cooley, for the verification. Now to figure out a way to have the same button mapped to different things in different aircraft. LOL.
-
For my own edification, does the TCS in the JS32 operate like the force-release does in the BK-117? In the helo, I hit the button my joystick (which is mapped to the force control release function), move the control surfaces to where I want them, then release the button and now the autopilot holds everything in the new orientation. Same deal for the Jetstream?

I've been messing around with the shadow settings (XP10.11), trying to see what looks good but doesn't kill my FPS too much. I noticed that the different settings have a dramatic effect on how the virtual cockpit appears. Has anyone else seen this? I haven't messed with it in any other aircraft, so maybe this is the expected behavior. For instance, if I set the shadows to 'static', the instrument panel becomes a lot (lot!) brighter. As I move to overlay, then 3D on Plane (sorry, going from memory here) and into 3D low/med/high, the cockpit becomes progressively darker. Is this normal? Was this cockpit designed (textured?) with a particular setting in mind as 'preferred'?
-
I'm not a fan of 'heavy metal' really, much preferring turboprops (ATR, JS32, MU-2B, B1900, &c). I did look at that Airbus, but the screenshots of the cockpit looked to be "cartoonish", for lack of a better word. I'm not sure what to make of that. The cockpit in the MU-2B or JS32, for example, look "real" to me. I didn't get that same impression with the Airbus, though. Do you find that it lacks the same level of reality or immersion that the few I mentioned have? I know it's a judgment call, but...just curious if my initial impression from the screenies is way off the mark.

I just wanted to let you know that the engine fire logic seems to be working in XP10.11, Javier. Having managed to climb to FL150 with no problems, I became complacent and didn't realize that my EGT had crept up to about 680 in both engines. Naturally, I had skimmed over the section of the manual dealing with the fire suppression and engine re-start processes. My co-pilot and passengers were thrilled with our sudden descent and return to departure airport.

When the speed is your friend...
cruster replied to arb65912's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Considering I need to get my JS32 back to Michigan, and the weather around these parts is generally crappy from here until May, I'm sure I'll wind up with icing at some point. As it is, I really have my hands full trying to keep it aloft when it's loaded up near the useful limit (hauling FSE passengers and cargo from point to point). Lightly loaded I can get 2000 FPM climb without any difficulty. With a dozen pax and a couple hundred kilos of cargo, I'm lucky to get 1000 FPM out of her. I don't know if the real plane is as sensitive to load as the sim is (I like to think so, but what do I know?), but it was quite a learning experience for me! -

As long as we're off the rails, I'm curious about something in the real airplane. What sort of fuel flow/consumption do you typically see at cruise? To answer the OP's question to me: No, I have not landed in icing conditions. I'm flying in northern Africa, currently, as I ferry my JS32 back to the US (this is driven by FSE). Not a lot of ice around these parts. -

My last couple of flights I've approached with full flaps and IAS somewhere around 130-140 kts. It seems fast to me (used to the BK-117, C208, Bonanza F33, MU-2B), but works and I haven't had a problem slowing down once on the runway. I can't imagine trying to land at 170 kts. Yikes!
