I just had a clean install of X-plane and SMP v3. After installing SMP v3, X-plane crashes on start-up. 

 

By the way, I've used SMP v2 on X-Plane previously and it worked fine.

 

Here's the last few lines of the log.txt in my X-plane folder:

Has anyone else successfully run SMP v3 on X-plane Steam version?

What was the last aircraft you had loaded in your last flight before SMP 3 was installed?

 

I had this aircraft loaded right before SMP3 was installed --> A320Neo by Jardesign (v2.5) - latest version

 

I tried the following:

 

1. Removed A320neo from my aircrafts folder

2. Start X-plane (success)

3. In quick flight, select Cessna 172SP (stock aircraft)

4. Real date and time set

5. Real-weather and winds set

6. Click "fly with these options"

 

With the above steps, at least I can load X-plane all the way to the Quick flight menu. However, I'm still not able to start the actual flight.

I have also tried this (just in case the settings.dat was not installed properly).

 

1. Run the uninstaller "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 10\X-Aviation\Uninstall SkyMaxx Pro.exe".

2. Run the installer which I download from X-Aviation "setup-windows.exe"

3. During install, X-plane folder is chosen as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 10"

4. Install is successful.

5. Rerun X-plane. Successfully reach the quick flight menu. After that, it crashes.

6. Check the SilverLining plugins folder. It still does not have settings.dat.

 

Note: This PC is a clean install of Windows 7 (reformat). All windows updates have been installed, with the latest ATI driver. No add-ons were installed in X-plane other than A320neo by Jardesign which I have removed from the Aircrafts folder for this test.

You are looking in the right place, I think. What should happen is settings.dat should be written the first time you run with SkyMaxx Pro with a set of default settings, but apparently it's not even getting that far.

 

I wonder if you are running X-Plane as a user that does not have write permissions to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X-Plane 10\Resources\plugins\SilverLining folder. Check the permissions on that folder. You may need to change them, or run as administrator - but I'm just guessing.

 

One thing that *might* work is starting with clear weather selected, which should result in SkyMaxx Pro doing pretty much nothing. If that lets you start up, that will give you an opportunity to bring up the SkyMaxx Pro configuration panel, and turn off all of the extra options like cloud reflections, shadows, terrain blending, lens flare, and crepuscular rays. If you can then successfully introduce a cumulus cloud layer into the scene, we can at least start narrowing down what feature it is your system doesn't seem to like.

 

If, at this point, you're still having trouble - there is one bit of new code in SkyMaxx Pro 3 that is specific to AMD video cards. It seems to work for everyone else, but I created a special build for you that removes it, as a test. Just download this file:

and place it in X-Plane's resources/plugins/silverlining/64 directory, replacing the one that's there. If that fixes it, then I know what's going on.

I uninstalled, cleared the folders, and re-installed. Replaced the win.xpl with the one above and it does not work. Same issue where it crashes on startup.

 

Let me know if you need more tests.

I think this is an extremely rare problem, but in case others run into it and come across this thread, I'll summarize:

 

- If you are getting a crash after installing Skymaxx Pro 3 immediately upon starting a flight, your log.txt file indicates a crash within the "SilverLining" plugin, and you are running Windows with an AMD video card, try replacing your Resources/plugins/SilverLining/64/win.xpl file with this one:

Same here. I tried all these different "win.xpl" files but no success. Still Silverlining makes XPlane crashing at start (and I have an AMD ATI Card HD 7900 series) . Attached is my log.

I'm sorry, but I should have made my post clearer.

 

What I meant was, I solved the problem after doing the 2 steps above. However, I failed to mention that I did not narrow down to find out which of the two solved the problem (if they did, at all!)

 

But I definitely managed to make it work without using the win.xpl file posted by Frank.

It's possible that installing the Visual Studio 2010 x64 runtimes would solve this sort of problem. Java not so much. Hopefully that helps Alex - if it's not that or the issue solved by http://media.sundog-soft.com/test/xplane/win.xpl, I'm not sure what it is. Double check you installed that win.xpl file to the right location....

I have installed both Visual Studio 2012 x86 and x64 redistributable. Is it the same than 2010?

 

The whole story of what happened is the following:

 

SMP 3 was working fine. Then a couple of days ago I got a notification to update my AMD Radeon HD 7900 series driver. I update the driver but my monitor (a 28 inches DVI TV) becomes black and i cant see anything. Then with a smaller monitor I managed to roll back the driver, uninstall it but still nothing. Then I did a System Restore to about a month ago. Monitor is now back in life but as I launch XP it crashes. I try removing all plug ins and it works fine. I put them back one at the time, all fine until i get to the Silver Lining folder. That's it. As soon as i put back Silver Lining in the plugin folder XP crashes at start. Without all fine. Also the log shows crash because Silver Lining.

 

Now I am rather worried because I purchased SMP 3 and I would like to use it not to throw the money down in the toilet possibly ;-)

Guys -- I have just done the most obvious of things that stupidly I didnt think to do that before. I uninstalled and reinstalled SMP 3 back. And now it is working!
