Baber20 Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Just heard this news on my T.V and then this video came up on Youtube. An F16 Jet just crashed at an Air Show in Canada. Watch the Video here Quote
MdMax Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Good thing he could eject ! But it's a F18: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Pilot+narrowly+escapes+crash/3318010/story.html Quote
Kesomir Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 No it is a F-16.How many F-16s have 2 tail fins? Quote
YYZatcboy Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 You are both wrong. It's a CF-18. That's the Canadian version of the F-18 Quote
Kieran Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Sorry I'm wrong. It is a CF-18. With the poor quality I had I thought I only saw a single air intake.Cheers Kieran Quote
Baber20 Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 Sorry Guys, my bad. It was a CF-18 Hornet. Quote
YYZatcboy Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Good news, The Pilot seems to be in good condition, so even though the plane is gone, he's still going to be ok. Quote
Jack Skieczius Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 from my experience i can tell he was probably preforming a slow flight/ nose high maneuver and might have gone a little to slow and the plane stalled and started into a spin. being a professional pilot he knew just what was happening and ejected.when we practice slow flight in a 172 we normally don't go bellow 1500 feet AGL for safety. this guy here was obviously lower then that.tough break for him. how do you explain the loss of a REALLY expensive airplane? i would hate to be that guy right now.now reading more into it, i cant see how a stall and spin can be the only explanation, cause these pilots are really experienced and should definitely know better then to allow the plane to get to slow that it would stall and spin.i am now thinking, something wrong with the plane or that it was just such a hot day that the density altitude was so very high that caused the stall speed to increase and perhaps he didn't take that into account, but still, he should have. maybe a bird strike.......when in doubt, blame it on the birds. Simmo W Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 wow, a very lucky man. a split second later and the rotation would have meant INJECTION into the ground. a good value airshow that day... Quote
YYZatcboy Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 He might have hit a wind gust that stalled the wings. Seems like it was windy, and from the clouds I have no doubt turbulent. Quote
YYZatcboy Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 There is talk on AV CANADA about a possible one engine out situation. The number one engine is fully open and the number two was fully closed. (Exhaust vents)http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=66387 Quote
Kaphias Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 I'm hearing a pop just before the plane drops, probably something to do with the engine. Compressor stall maybe? Quote
eaglewing7 Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 The number two engine was definitely not running just as the plane yawed to the right. In some of the videos you can see the number one is full open, while the number two is closed up. The rudders are also jammed full left in the high alpha pass, which is another indicator that the number two failed just into the high alpha pass. Also, if you notice on impact, the number one engine begins to shoot flames as the debris from the forward parts of the aircraft begin to be ingested, the number two does not. Kaphias Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 News on the pilot and eyewitness account:The pilot, Capt. Brian Bews, who sustained a sore back and scraped-up arms, was treated at a hospital and released Friday.----------------------------"All of a sudden you could hear `pop, pop, pop,' " witness Roland Booth told CTV News. "I saw sparks come out of the one engine. The plane started banking over to the side. That's when the pilot bailed out with his parachute."(my emphasis) Quote
