SoundMaxx... So far, not happy. Not happy at all.

Just installed this product and so far it has pretty much clobbered everything in my X-Plane install. No small feat, considering I have plugins that cost hundreds of dollars that I will most likely need to pay up for technical support for re-installs.

So here's what happened:

Install, everything went smoothly.

Upon starting X-Plane, heard no new ambient scenery sounds.. whatever... When I tried to start the engines, noticed right off that all my switch configs had been wiped out.

Worked around this (Barely, just to get an engine started) and when I finally succeeded in starting an engine, it sounded like a drunk weasel high on meth.

So...

Lesson learned: Make a FULL backup of your X-Plane dir first before installing this somewhat marginal piece of software.

Uninstalled it and still had the same issues.

Re-installed my Carenado B1900 aircraft from a backup: Same drunk sound issue.

Not sure what the hell happened but... sorely disappointed in SoundMaxx.

Indeed,

The installer doesn't even touch near things you're talking about. This same base software is used on all our products. That's many, many thousands of installs, and I've never heard of something like this. Ever.

I'm assuming switch configs are something to do with hardware? Also, which version of X-Plane is this?

I think it's fair to say you probably had a corrupt filesystem going on there. SoundMaxx doesn't touch anything outside of your sound files.

I own the Carenado B1900 as well and just can confirm, that SoundMaxx does no harm to the sounds used by this aircraft.

I can hear some changes to aircraft using default sounds, but that's all about it.

I LOVE that image! Who knew!

Anyway.. I feel I need to apologize, since I've been the cause of my own frustipation.

SoundMaxx installed and I believe now that it wasn't the cause of what happened.

What DID happen, is that after installation of SoundMaxx, X-Plane started up with a different aircraft. Some sort of 2-stroke aerobatic plane instead of my usual docile Beech 1900.

I realized this when I went to the outside view and then called 911 because someone had stolen my B1900 and replaced it with some chipmunk of a plane.

So... my apologies for the false alarm, folks. All is well.

Sorry for going off topic; but what plugins cost hundreds of dollars in X-Plane?

Sadly, Flythissim.com does... Back in the day when they were developing, the product was reasonable, but after some time, they decided they will no longer support us "Casual Simmers" and bumped the price up to $2000 for Avidyne/GS1000 users. Needless to say they've created a secondary market which I totally intend  to exploit....
