alexandre Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 In the environment options of xplane, but also in the quick flight options at start-up, it is possible to select and enable a "real-weather" option, which means xplane connects to weather.noaa.gov, and downloads a grib file of the current weather of your position in real-time. The weather that you get in the sim is therefore the actual one out there in real-life. My question : it is possible to use the SkyMaxx addon and to keep this option enabled. Does SkyMaxx simulate all weather, and can follow the changes in current weather as you fly ? Quote
JohnMAXX Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 What Frank said....lolSkymaxx replaces the default clouds with a completely new system. It also is not a weather engine and is completely integrated withe the default weather generated in X-Plane.Also it works with 3rd party weather injectors.... Quote
Cameron Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 The product page also answers this question. Quote
MercuryMat Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 I know my question will sound strange but...Do you think it will be possible to generate cumulus on top of thermals with skymaxx pro? I've build up a small team that started to work to a "glider weather generator"...and it could be nice if smp could be integrated in that... Sent from Mad iPad's Tapatalk Quote

Cameron Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 I see Mr. Winslow has come out to play some more. Oh how smart he thinks he must be. You're not, Steven (For those of you that don't understand this message, please disregard...not directed at anyone who has posted in this topic). Just a dude who thinks he's always flown under the radar when he hasn't. You know...the stupid type. It's only now that he's finally being called out after we've kept this amongst ourselves laughing at the "smart" posts he makes while thinking he's being smart. While we're at it we may as well say "hello" to Brett S. of X-Plane.org moderating fame too. Quote
Cameron Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 A weather generator? Tell us more... I think Mad Mat is mainly focusing on thermals here, and not on the type of weather generator we all desire one day! Quote
MercuryMat Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Well...i really did not understand the cameron's message at all, but...the story is that i built i 250 h-FOV glider sim with 3 projectors and 3 PC at my aeroclub (really impressive and immersive), with a real fuse and realistic controls). Now i involved a couple of pilots with enough abilities to start working on a plugin that can be useful for gliding simulation, something like Condor soaring already does, something that overrides the weather engine in xplane or that at least will be capable to generate realistic thermals (that for example are able to follow the wind strenght or to be positioned under cumulus clouds)... At the moment we are working to implement RASP models in the weather engine, starting from www.eziosarti.com, a weather model really useful for soaring over alps, with open data available. What i was thinking is if SMP will be able to, at least, generate cumulus over thermals tops (that are still available in xplane under custom weather options). The model should override the data from METARS (or at least consider only some basic datas) and work on a different model with different calculations. Sent from Mad iPad's Tapatalk 1 Quote
sundog Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Mat, something likely to come out in SkyMaxx Pro 2.2 is an API for other plugins to call (ie via XPLMSendMessageToPlugn) to create individual clouds at specific locations and sizes. If you guys get to the point where you're writing a plugin, and know where a thermal is and where exactly you'd like a cloud to be, PM me and we can discuss details. To set proper expectations, I'm still focused on getting SMP 2.1 out the door, and 2.2 is nothing more than an idea at this point. But this is something I want to expose as it lets weather engines / injectors have finer control than what is currently possible in X-Plane's existing API. Edited October 31, 2014 by sundog 1 Quote
MercuryMat Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Hi, i finished my sim with three pc networked and i installed smp. Really nice results, but i would like to know if i have to use the same smp settings on each pc or the networked copies follow the master settings of smp. Thanks for your help! That sounds great and look forward to more news about it. Quote
