OlaHaldor Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 I've had a few hours of spare time at work, so I got busy with LightWave and the CAD tools. I've barely started on the terminal. What airport is this ? Polycount so far, as depicted above: 1061 Quote
MdMax Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 It looks great, but I have no idea what airport it is. Can you give us a hint ? Quote
Goran_M Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Oslo??I'm just guessing since you live in Norway. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 A few more degrees to the south. They are building a new terminal as we speak. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 Last one before I'm off to bed.. Quote
Simmo W Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Last one before I'm off to bed.. Looks beautiful Ola.So disappointed, thought it was the new Avalon airport in Victoria. My fellow aussies will know the joke I'm making there - what a dump that is (airport), I've sworn only to go there for the airshow.... Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 First go with the tower in place. Made some veeeeeery simple texturing to go with it to at least give you a feeling of what's going on. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 A friend and I had plans to go to Alicante this weekend and I would be staying for a week, but due to the volcano on Iceland I might not be able to. All air traffic has closed down in Norway for the time being. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 Been spending some time today to try and figure out how the gates are. I have ONE image of it, so it's a bit limited what I can do.. There's still a lot to do, like adding the stairs going down from it, but before I do that I must make the gate go downwards. I'll do that once I'm happy with the shape and details. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted April 28, 2010 Author Report Posted April 28, 2010 My friend Alexander went to Spain and Alicante on Sunday. He told me the new terminal is almost done and is looking totally stunning. So I went ahead and got some photos from airliners.net to see how it looks. All the curves on the roof would prove to be quite a polygon monster, but with some testing I've found that I could reduce it from around 6000 to around 2700. What you see in the render below is a total of 6542 polygons, including the tower and the two terminals I've done earlier.. I still lack to add details and duplicate gates on the first terminals I built, but I'm quite satisfied with the poly count for now. Quote
dan Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Quite a project you've taken on The new terminal is huge. I got to see it when I flew out of LEAL after a trip to spain this february. Nice job on the old terminal as well. I've got one suggestion for you, and that is to try to animate that large clock on the wall and have it tied to the local time in X-Plane via datarefs. I'm not sure if its possible without a plugin but it would be pretty cool if you could pull it off ;D Quote
OlaHaldor Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 Just a minor update. I've modified and added and done some magic. A few minor details to add to the gate, and I'm all ready to duplicate it. Render to come.. A taste when the gates are in place.. Quote
Simmo W Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Looks beautiful Ola. So, you planning to release this formally, if so when? Count me into the queue, this would be a great backdrop for videos & just plain touring. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 Thank you! Yes, my goal is to have a public, payware release of it, and I'm thinking of bundling it together with Muchamiel, since they're both very close to each other. Quote
Jack Skieczius Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 any new information an this scenery Ola? Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Posted July 25, 2010 Hey,I've been totally out of this X-plane stuff for a few months, and I probably will be for the next few months. Let's just put it this way: a few unfortunate events has pretty much killed my inspiration and glow, and I haven't even touched X-Plane more than once since May.I am however, doing considerably better than I did earlier. I'm moving from the old place out on the country, in to the city with my girlfriend. Here I'll build a new business, but still doing what I've done the past 3-5 years. Last thing I heard, X-Plane 10 will be released some time around christmas - and I'll put my sceneries on hold until then, and develop the scenery I do for XP10.All though, I will probably jump into the modeling seat every once in a while to expand the scenery so it will be ready for XP10 asap. Simmo W Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 know what u mean Ola. a pity that your scenery's not out sooner, it looked stylish ;Dhave you got any idea how long it takes to build an average aerodrome, like the (very basic!) ones u see at the .org? I've got an urge to try it one day, doesn't look too bad. eg just using openscenery but with higher res land textures? 10 hrs or so? thanks. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 30, 2010 Author Report Posted July 30, 2010 I don't know 'openscenery'. I think I've spent 12-15 hours, if not more, on the terminal alone for the Alicante scenery. I've been studying the very few reference photos I found and had myself closely to get the scale somewhat in the area of 'good enough'. The modeling is one thing - texturing is a totally different story.Did you get LWCAD? I highly recommend it for scenery development. It's like night and day. I can't model without it. Having the snapping tools around is just an absolute must. And all the other tools along with the plug-in.. My words come to short. You just gotta buy it. ;D Quote
Simmo W Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Thanks Ola, you're the Pro so I think I'm looking at a very long time to construct anything as good looking as your stuff! I'll be wrapped to construct a cube... ;DI've never used any 3D design software, and I've just seen the full price of Lightwave 3D, approaching a thousand bucks is a little steep for my exploration. For a laugh, did you see my other post, my first scenery 'design'. It took me a couple o f minutes to be able to move around openscenery and the cool (in my opinion) R2 resources. I can have 20 smokestacks along the edge of the runway for a challenge....Orgware here I come! Quote
-TheoGregory Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Space Bar -> Add -> Mesh -> CubeThough I can't say the blender word round ola Quote
Simmo W Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Oh really Theo, it's that easy?! Could you do high res textures for all the cubes I release to the .org? "Special Features - Solid surfaces; Vertical and horizontal dimensions; high coefficient drag rating;" ;D Quote
