Flying_pig Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) here is my second project currently i have only modeled the engine part of the wing and a very ruff fuselage obviously the engine cowling needs some work and but at least i have started work anyways here a photo of the engine also i know there are 4 propeller mounts when there are only 3 propellers per engine on a c-46 this is due to where the engine interior came from (it's the interior of the b-29's since they are almost identical) Edited February 6, 2013 by mj12345 1 Quote

ryancz Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Quite an interesting aircraft.I patiently await your work, this and the B-29. Quote
eaglewing7 Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Ah the Commando, quite an interesting aircraft. I hope your aircraft is quite accurate, because I really have the urge to take it out in the future and test the crosswind handling, which I have heard is atrocious. Apparently, the rudder on the '46 is too small, along with the vertical stabilizer, but the problem is compounded due to the fact that the fuselage is shaped like a football, which negatively affects the crosswind stability... Flying_pig Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 Actually i can't wait to get the flight model finished and go try some crosswind landings myself(i've succesfully landed the default columbia 400 in a 70kt direct croswwind with heavy turbulence in a severe thunderstorm with 1/2 mile visibility at night before so i'm not expecting much of a challenge) Quote
Flying_pig Posted February 10, 2013 Author Report Posted February 10, 2013 Started work on the panel today i still have a lot of small things to model and a few big things. 1 Quote

Flying_pig Posted February 12, 2013 Author Report Posted February 12, 2013 Does anybody happen to have acces to the cockpit of a BUFFALO AIRWAYS C-46 cockpit as i need some higher res. pictures of certain parts of the cockpit such as seat supports, all of the panels etc. basicly anything small and complex (I already know about the 3-D panoramic picture of the cockpit at icepilots.com, however this one is to small to be used for detail work.) if so PLEASE tell me. Also thanks Gjalp for the compliment. Quote
eaglewing7 Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Sorry can't help you there. The only one I know about is the Ice Pilots site... Maybe send the guys at Buffalo Airways an email, and see if they are willing to help you out? Edited February 12, 2013 by eaglewing7 1 Quote
ryancz Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 I know one came for my local airport's open house, if it does again, I'll get an array of pictures for you.Usually early May. Quote
steven winslow Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Try a Google search for C-46 Commando cockpit photographs. Came up with a bunch of pics. Not sure how usable they are, but it's a start. Quote
ryancz Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 It wasn't a Buffalo Air one though, it was a green camo, "The Tinker Belle", only one flying in the US. Quote
Flying_pig Posted February 13, 2013 Author Report Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) Where did this C-46 come from? Also it just occured to me that if i hadn't moved this summer one would be coming to my local airports open house in late july and early august along with a b-29 Edited February 13, 2013 by mj12345 Quote
Flying_pig Posted February 13, 2013 Author Report Posted February 13, 2013 Try a Google search for C-46 Commando cockpit photographs. Came up with a bunch of pics. Not sure how usable they are, but it's a start.I tried that already unfourtanetly most of these are the instrument panel only not to mention 75% of them are only 200x300 well i need at least 700x900 and preferably 3000x4000 but usually i use 1920x1080 photos. Flying_pig Posted June 17, 2013 Author Report Posted June 17, 2013 managed to do the overhead panel since found a picture with high enough resolution to zoom in on it Quote
eaglewing7 Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 I thought I had a pdf copy of a C-46 manual, unfortunately, I don't... But, I know where you can download a bunch of reference material on the C-46, and plenty of other aircraft. www.avialogs.com The only catch is, the site is now pay to download, but you only have to pay $14 for a 6 month subscription, so its pretty reasonable. I'm considering upgrading to the paid account at some point, and when I do, I'll let you know how the quality is on the C-46 manuals. Once again though, I will say that if your really in need of specific information or pictures, send an email or two to Buffalo Airways, from what I've heard, they are pretty helpful, and sim friendly, or at least I remember hearing that at some point... Flying_pig Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 thankfully everts airways sort of beat you to the punch on the manuals they have one of their c-46 manuals available online so i'm going to be using that the only problem with this is that the interior of a Buffalo airways c-46 and a evert airway c-46 are distinctly different so i either have to make two VC's or just focus on evert airways meaning i can't ask buffalo for reference photos Quote
