Kesomir Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I tried for the first time today to use the FS2XPLANE tool to convert the Aerosoft Mega Airport Heathrow package.First off, it looks amazing in x-plane. If I can nail this, it'll certainly fill a major gap I have in x-plane atm.As I expected, the conversion wasn't 100% smooth, and I'm left with ground texture layer floating just above the height of a cessa from the ground, and starting on a runway isn't actually a runway (very bumpy ground etc, + positioned behind some 3d objects such as 3d lights)What I want to do is the following: Drop this texture to the floor, as it should be and fix any alignment issues.Sort out x-plane runways and markings etc toi match up with the scenery packageAny pointers guys? I've grabbed the World Editor and DSF Overlay Tools. DSF Overlay looked good for moving bits about, but can't do anything about height. World Editor when opening the package doesn't seem to give any airport or even highlight on the map the location of EGLL.Any and all guides/ pointers / walkthroughs appreciated. Quote
Cameron Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Hi, Kesomir,Unfortunately without doing a whole lot of work (more than I even know right off the bat), you won't be able to accomplish this.I assume you've got the 'terrain follows contours' option unchecked in rendering settings since you're saying other objects aren't floating, but just for giggles, I would double check that. If it's checked, then deselect it and restart the sim.I'll see if I can't look more into this...a screenshot may make it a little easier for me to understand exactly what's up. Can you post something from ground level and a little above? Quote
Kaphias Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 For your issue with WED, you need to load the apt.dat file manually before you can begin editing. To open it, go to File>Import apt.dat, navigate to the apt.dat file of the scenery package, and import it. You should then see the airport (you may have to zoom out first) and can then begin editing. Kesomir Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 Cheers Kaphias will take another lookUnfortunately without doing a whole lot of work (more than I even know right off the bat), you won't be able to accomplish this.Bummer I assume you've got the 'terrain follows contours' option unchecked in rendering settings since you're saying other objects aren't floating, but just for giggles, I would double check that. Can you post something from ground level and a little above? Its something that doesn't translate well from movement into stills, but here goes:There are other objects such as stationary aircraft that match the markings layer (sit on it).Is there a list of good airport scenery for x-plane? Or of stuff that can be converted over with no probs? On the bright news, I just found that my VRInsight MCP Panel now works with x-plane - woot. So can control autopilot, transponder, nav, com, etc from my external hardware. Hope that will work with Javiwers CRJ. Quote
garrettm30 Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Is there a list of good airport scenery for x-plane?There is a type of database attached to Google Maps of various X-Plane scenery. I don't know who maintains it, but this is the first place I always look. Take a look. Just find on the map the place you want an airport for, and see if there is one listed there. Note: I always have to zoom way out first. For some reason, the map starts over the sea.I also like the free scenery from Ted's X-Plane Scenery Page. It is mostly American airports, but there are a few made for the rest of the world.-Garrett Quote
