woweezowee Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 Not sure if this has been asked before, but I wonder: Has anybody ever seen a moving train in XP10? Quote
woweezowee Posted December 25, 2011 Author Report Posted December 25, 2011 hmmmm. is it a setting that I overlooked? Quote
Cameron Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 They do move, and the rail crossings have flashing lights. Not sure if your traffic level needs a specific setting to see it happen. Quote
woweezowee Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 i'm at the "chicago" setting, and you guys? Quote
Simmo W Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I've only ever had it at Kansas level and never seen them move. Even at Kansas I find the traffic too busy at times. So anyone know the lowest settings that the choo-choos start moving? Quote

Simmo W Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Oh good, I just have to keep an eye open next time or fly lower!I'm not sure if it's a bug, but sometimes at night in the highways, the traffic definitely ain't Kansas residential! Very busy! Quote
woweezowee Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 Trains stand at the railstations in my xp10 world - forever. I guess that is what you see, too, Simon? So obviously some kind of bug seems to be there within the traffic settings. Quote
Simmo W Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I haven't fully tested it - if anyone can give us a coordinate that has passing trains, we could find out for sure. I suspect we are just not hanging around enough. Or maybe it's an ultra realistic Melbourne Metrotrains sim- their trains rarely run on time! Quote
woweezowee Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 uhhh, yesterday I waited more than half an hour at Girona Train Station. There was one cargo train not moving a milimeter. I thought "well, another will eventually arrive" - but no. However I've never been to Girona in real life, so maybe it's just like Melbourne 1 Quote
OlaHaldor Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I can check this further when I'm going home to my place around January 1st. But I'm absolutely positive I'm using Kansas, and that I've seen moving trains. Only cargo trains though. On the other hand, it might be something about world render distance or whatever that setting is called? It's in the middle of the render settings window, upper right corner. Quote
woweezowee Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 That one I have on "medium". (had it on low while experimenting with HDR - wich unfortunately is still a no-go). Quote
jamesbaby286 Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I spent a good 45 minutes following a double train line a didn't see a single train... Quote
abrenna Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Finally saw a train on the railway today after 20 hours in the sim. It was a passenger train. The frequency of the trains in X-Plane are so rare that I consider them to be realistic when compared to real Norwegian train schedules. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Haha, abrenna. Really? Where did you fly then? From Trondheim to Oslo there's three or four trains a day - and the same in reverse. Local trains are more often. Quote
glenner Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 In the Seattle demo area I've only seen them on tracks that follow the shorelines. Near the GRAYE NDB, north of the NOLLA NDB and between OG03 and OR23. In fact, I find that there are too many, one behind each other. I'm using Kansas setting and world render distance at high. Also, at Kansas setting, I find that traffic is heavy on the highways or freeways but the city streets are quite bare. Quote
Simmo W Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Finally, thanks Glen! I'll hang around there.. Quote

I didn't realise, I had my settings at Siberia, so I've upped em one to Kansas, might have been causing it. Ho-hum, not that my simming has been doubled in enjoyment now! too much algae in these parts, caused by bugs in the water - GPU bugs! Quote
Warmbrak Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Yeah right, you took a leak in the river again Simon didn't you!? Quote
woweezowee Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 at least now I know why my trains won't move: Quote
Simmo W Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Ha! At least the electricity supply is REAL close by. Quote
woweezowee Posted January 7, 2012 Author Report Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Simon, it's really time to ask how on earth all those issues will eventually be solved someday. Technically possible? I am sure. But how? When? This train and electricity example is only one not-so-important example. Coulds? Mostly triangles for me even with 39% in beta10. Like I still see a cut off horizon from different angles (includes changing light conditions as if one was switching the time), and curiously moving cloud shadows. ATC? …well, also only an initial start. And no, I do not even dare to start talking about HDR again… well, well. I'm still able to enjoy XP10, but I just can't imagine how all that is going to be fixed and performance improved. I'm skeptic. (Better to be skeptic -> see the people that had high hopes for FLIGHT) Edited January 7, 2012 by woweezowee Quote
Simmo W Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 All good points Wow. It's a very big world to fix. Too big. But hopefully they'll respond to specific requests in the main areas.I've heard Beta 10 has caused cloud problems. I ain't moving from 7 until I hear it's safe to do so! I love the clouds, it's half of the sim experience. If they ultimately reduce their quality due to the performance issues, I'll certainly be complaining. Quote
