I don't have the snazzy monitor program you have, the windoze one is okay though:

Your issue made me double check that I had all 8 virtual cores working, they are, but I didn't have hyperthreading enabled, so now I can see the 4 virtual cores working more than before. no noticeable jump in perf, & I definitely can't run HDR without the frames dropping unacceptably - to 21 fps, not bad though for an early beta!

- HDR: Enabled with FXAA 4X

. . .

- Anti-Aliasing: 16X

Either have anti-aliasing on or HDR with FXAA enabled, but not both.

Shadowing: tried, Static, Global Low, and 3D Aircraft. (By the way, there is no explanation in the demo as to what do those settings means)

Shadowing is currently very GPU intensive. I'd set it to static for now.

FWIW, I have a 3.33GHz W3680 and an HD 5870 and am seeing terrible frame rates.

XP10 CPU core load fast test with up to 20AI airplanes...

I saw similar: six AI planes enabled over KSEA and CPU usage never went above 90% of one core. One of two things is happening: either the W3680 is such an amazing processor it can run multiple AI planes with no discernible increase in processor usage, or the AI planes aren't using multiple cores.

It's just a demo version, so maybe this is the reason?

By a definition, demo shows (or demonstrates) the capabilities of a full version, but in a somehow limited scope. So, we have a limit on time to fly, we have a limit on a scenery, we have a limit on acceptable aircraft (ooops, sorry for that), but having a limit on basic and widely advertised features, is a bit too much, don't you think?

On the bright side, FSX demo sucked as much, if not more and yet the dev team turned it into a succesfull product, which was enjoyed by many people. We'll see.

Hey guys, small question. I FINALLY got the demo downloaded, and xp10 is amazing! But I'm struggling with some of the new camera functions. The main one for me is in xp9, to move foreword in toggle 3d cockpit, I pressed page up. When I do that in xp10, nothing happens.

Look under the view menu, all the functions you want should be there with the keyboard shortcuts displayed to the right. I believe the one you want is the period key, "."

Let them improve optimization first... I think GTX580 or ATI5870/6970 or similar should work fine with HDR now. Simply XP10 without the HDR is 1/3 of visuals (and HDR is easier GPU wise than shadows). HDR is the new standard for rendering in XP10. The old AA is only for those older >2 year old gen GPUs.

I'm not going to accept "wait for the PCI 3.0 GPUs, Ivy Bridge" just to turn HDR on with acceptable framerate.

"We turned on pretty much every effect that isn’t CPU/bus based (that is, the GPU pixel effects) and found that we could run with all of them at 20-30 fps" - typical MacPro with 5870.

arti

So arti, you saying a 580, as it is basically 2 GPU's, wouldn't be taken advantage of?

This is starting to sound like a PMDG FSX tweak forum, love it :D .

Also, this PCI3.0 sounds promising, I'm seeing motherboards for sale with it now. But the GPUs arent yet taking advantage of them?

Edit - google is my best friend:

Thanks!

Not exactly. GTX580 is a single processor GPU. GTX590 (also AMD6990) are double processor GPUs. XP10 can't take advantage from such a design.

PCI 3.0 motherboard are easily available now, but we're still waiting for the PCI 3.0 GPUs.

Of course we'll need PCI 3.0 GPU in PCI 3.0 motherboard.
