Simmo W Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Our Thoughts for the dead, injured and homeless of Queensland, Australia. I've a good friend in Laidley about to have his second flood in 4 yrs. I heard that the flooded area was larger than France and Germany, and that was a few days ago. Half the world's Coking coal exports disrupted so metal prices to double..Some pictures here:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/gallery/gallery-e6frewxi-1225985189465?page=1
NoutvanZon Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 May the dead RIP. :'(Again and again mother nature finds a way to beat us. A flood, earthquake, volcano. Don't think I need to name examples.
Simmo W Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 Thanks Nout. And to think, not long ago we were struggling through DROUGHT. A sick joke of nature.
samen Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Agreed, May all of these tragedies stop. Floods have a very long term effect. Look at us, my country is still recovering.
kiofka Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 My condolences to those effected by the floods.I think we're starting to see proof of the climate change we've been warned about.I hope there's enough time left to get the environment back on track.Good luck to you and yours Simon.
Oliver Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 May them RIP :'( May our Aussie members, and their families be safe!
Kaphias Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Keep us updated Simon, I have many friends and family in and around the Brisbane area. Stay safe.
Goran_M Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Keep us updated Simon, I have many friends and family in and around the Brisbane area. Stay safe. Brisbanes river banks broke yesterday and the order was placed to evacuate the CBD.The worst flood in 35 years. Back then, the Brisbane river peaked at 20 meters. These floods have it peaked at 21 meters and still climbing. Pretty serious considering the deepest point is about 12 meters (40 feet). At least 10 people have died (including 4 children) at last count.
Simmo W Posted January 12, 2011 Author Report Posted January 12, 2011 Thanks Kaph and everyone for your thoughts. Fortunately we are approx 2000km south of this area. The economic losses, as well as human, will be huge.
