  2. No way!! VLJ/BizJets! There isn't enough of them! I just saw the Citation Latitude and Longitude models for the first time today. Nice! Latitude http://www.cessna.com/citation/latitude.html Longitude http://www.cessna.com/citation/longitude.html Double-wow! Cheers James
  3. Sorry, couldn't resist. Long week. Cheers James
  4. Hi, I think what you're looking for is covered on page 9 of the JRollon manual. The speeds listed relate to the amount of flaps you are using. Top hit on this website: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=jetstream+32+performance+charts (Matches what I found in the manual.) I hope this helps. Cheers James
  5. Hi there, Cessna Mustang for me, no question - High Sierra Edition: http://www.cessna.com/citation/mustang/mustang-high-sierra.html Can you imagine all those wonderful reflections coming off the glass panels? And the feeling of independence whilst flying? Amazing. Check this out... http://www.cessna.com/MungoBlobs/95/214/cit_mus_flt14_hires,0.jpg This little plane is superb, and definitely is a "fantasy" plane when it comes to simming. Cheers James
  6. Sorry guys, don't flame me. It's only 11:19 here and I've had a LOT of Sunday morning coffee.
  7. Hi, I don't know the exact procedures behind how best to use the cabin pressurisation system, other than what general rule of thumb I have used before. So for example, I'll set 2000 during pre-flight procedures to get me underway, and then once airborne as part of the Climb checklist I'll increase the cabin pressure to about 4000 - knowing that I am going to go up to about FL150-160 - this seems to work quite well. I've done Jersey Gatwick (about 90 miles) at this altitude with no warnings, and then of course brought it back down to 2000 during descent (as part of the Descent checklist!) and this seems to do the trick. I haven't yet been sucked out through the back door of the plane with my brain coming out my nose after landing so I must be doing something right! Cheers James
  8. Hi there, I'm looking at a number of Aerosoft add-ons at the moment, but I wonder if anyone could offer an opinion on the following: VFR Photo Scenery Bundle 1-4 http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=12407&s_design=DEFAULT&shopfilter_category=Flight%20Simulation&s_language=english I live in Jersey so it'd be good to look at some enhanced scenery for the UK, but I have some questions first in terms of guidance please. 1.) Will this scenery be ok with XP10s autogen technology, in that will it "conflict" in terms of what buildings and roads are displayed versus the photo scenery that this will use? 2.) Will the autogen (roads/buildings) etc still use the OpenStreet map "underneath" or will this scenery "override" those settings? 3.) Given that I fly a lot of regional IFR (FL180-240) will I be "wasting" my time with this scenery pack as it's "designed" to be used at a lower level VFR? 4.) Generally speaking, are there any specific "Rendering" settings I should adhere to to get the most/functional use out of the scenery? (I'd like to know up front if I need to use "extreme res" and uncompressed textures etc - which is a bit beyond the limit of my 560Ti at the moment. 5.) Finally, (I wonder if anybody actually owns this scenery or the South West pack at least!) would anyone know if the coverage includes the Channel Islands?) As you can probably imagine, Jersey is not more than a Leelu-style "dot" on the world map, so in terms of XP10 autogen there isn't much there, ahem. I know it can be accused of being a bit of a "backward" island, but we have more than three roads and 8 houses!! Thanks very much for any advice or experience of this product that you might have. Kind regards, James
  9. Hi Chris, Wasn't sure if that was tongue-in-cheek or not, but thought I had done so - to a degree: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-690/performance The 690 apparently pi33ses all over the 680 - according to Nvidia. Very interesting. On Sunday I was trying to justify the cost of the 690 over the 680 more than anything - "was there any real advantage to getting a 690?" Didn't expect the 690 to actually be slower!! Thanks for the link! Cheers James
  10. Sorry - couldn't resist: LOL - every single time. Cheers James
  11. Hi Tom, Thanks very much, that explains it nicely! Makes sense of what I discovered during the process of creating Checklister plugin checklists for Javier's J32 - I was able to use the dataref editor plugin to get what I saw as the "default" X-Plane ones, and a couple of specific .OBJ files in the J32 install directory to get *most* of the custom datarefs.... but of course there were a couple "missing" that I just couldn't see in either... So, not unlike the student asking the teacher and feeling a little awkward, I contacted Javier direct and asked him straight out - "How do you set your chocks?" LOL Having attempted to guess quite literally beforehand, I was trying things like "J32/SetChocks", "J32/ChocksOn", "J32/ChocksSet", "J32/EnableChocks" - you see where I'm going? So I asked Javier, and he very kindly told me: "Ah yes, this one: "J32/Chocks" - go figure. At that point I kind of conceded that unless it is documented anywhere (similar to "published" I guess) you are just not going to know unless you ask the developer straight out or indeed ask that developer very kindly if he'll tweak the code to just spit out any and all datarefs to Gizmo / or X-Plane. (A good tip to know!) So thanks again for filling in some blanks for me there - I must admit, during my first week of X-Plane I wanted to get my vrInsight MCP Combo Pro hooked up and Philippe very kindly sent me a whole load of datarefs - which made me go, "OK..............." but now I'm like the guy in Fifth Element who tries to mug Korben Dallas on his apartment doorstep stammering - "gimme the datarefs, gimme the datarefs, gimme gimme come on man come on".... What can I say? I love that film. Anyway, thanks again - and sorry for jacking the thread. Cheers James
  12. As I understand it - "Yes" - there is obviously more calculation involved to generate the scenery in the first place - which will be a combination of CPU vs GPU - but after that it is held in VRAM just the same as it was before - just more of it..... Think of it this way, did you PC go slower when you added more RAM in the past, or did it just let you run more apps at the same time with little-other noticeable overhead? (This is possibly a moot point these days as desktops ship with at least 4-8GB RAM!! - but go back a few years to get my analogy) Since the 680 was released last year there has been nothing else that has come out that has really challenged it - so you're not going to see a much-improved difference by using a 690 with X-Plane, but I *do* believe you'll get a better bang-for-your-buck with a 4GB 680 - eye-candy wise at least. That's where I'm putting my money. Or the birthday-fairy is at least. Cheers James
  13. I concur. And in almost all cases the times I "wasted" my money were due to not doing my research properly. Conversely, the times I have got more joy than $30 could ever buy me (no jokes please, I'm English!) was down to putting in some effort either before the purchase to make sure I really did "want it" or invest a decent amount of time post-sale. A case in point is the J32 from Javier - if I am going to get more out of it I am going to have to learn how to fly the darn thing properly - so last week I was learning radio navigation - for the first time ever. (Ruined by FMCs!) But in doing so I can't stop flying it - must have put 30 hours into it already - its already paid for itself. (Plus the other 20+ for the checklists!) That said, call me Devil's Advocate here: How many times have I "thrown away" $3 here and $3 there on the Apple App Store buying *not crap* but unused apps for my iPad? I have no idea, but I bet I've "thrown away" a couple of hundred dollars over the past couple of years. Cheers James
  14. Great topic! I must have spent an HOUR on Sunday night reading other forums and posts about just this very topic, and I have something for you on this I would like to share - as it makes my mind up 100% It's quite simple actually. Buy a single GTX680 4096GB. Why? XP10 is going to go 64bit "soonish" - sliders to the right time! (Sort of!) What you'll be limited by a lot of the time will be VRAM, so given there will be "no limit" on the X-Plane application's use of RAM means that you'll want to take as much advantage of available VRAM as possible - so that you get more "stuff" on screen. So, this means that a 4096 vs a 2048 will be better yes? Fairly obvious. OK, so why a 680 over a 690? There is a quietish marketing secret about the VRAM on the 690 that is not disclosed. As you already know, it is two GPUs on one card, two cards in SLI on one physical card if you take my meaning. BUT: In order for the SLI-bit to work each GPU has to have it's own local "copy" of the VRAM - which means that each GPU consumes 2048Mb each just for the SLI-bit. This leaves 2048 useable VRAM for the applications, in this case X-Plane. Which means you only get 2048Mb of VRAM to play with. Secondly, X-Plane doesn't support SLI yet, so there is no point getting more than one card - so a single GTX680 4096 it is then! Finally, in terms of performance, if using a GTX680 is like slicing through a log first time with an axe, then a GTX690 is simply going "too hard" and shattering the axe head and then your wrist as a result. What do I mean? TOO much power we ain't gonna use. Not yet. Give me more VRAM today so that I can fill the screen with lovely things. As long as I get 30-50fps I will be as happy as a pig in sh1t. I don't need 120fps, or epilepsy for that matter. I hope that helps - sorry the sarcastic tone, it was not meant that way, more to be playful as I am happy *grins* to post about something I spent quite some time doing some research on and came to happy conclusion - plus I get to save about £250 on the potential purchase of an under-utilised 690!! Cheers James
  15. I have to agree with Cameron I'm afraid. A "demo" in a lot of cases once compromised can be then compromised globally for anyone looking for the.... compromise. Look at JailBreaks for iOS devices to give a "modern" analogy. And generally speaking it's not possible to release "half a product" for demos, it's either feature complete or it's not. Unless the longevity of a product revolves how many "levels" it's got you can't really release the "gameplay" and then expect people to pay full price. Demos have their place certainly, but its based on a strategy, which is in turn based on economies of scale unfortunately. For me, the best 3D viewer out there is........................... YouTube. If you're not sure, wait for someone else to buy it, someone else to love it, someone else to upload a cool 1080P HD video with 120fps and TrackIR integration with a really cool soundtrack that makes your leg twitch for the wallet - THEN its buying time!!! Or if you can't wait, do you research, take a punt and buy it. Something not paid for has no value. If you've paid for something you're much more likely to look after it, or try to learn how to use it. Trust me. I used to be a teenager that at one point thought it was possible to download the entire world and read every web page. (What can I say, I was keen!) Another favorite quote of mine, used it this morning while speaking with my wife who wanted to buy some more Tupperware: "Don't buy just any shit - buy cheap, buy twice." Just my thoughts. Demos have their place. But not all the time. Last year I tried the XP10 demo for 10 mins and binned it - to go to MS Flight. Wow. The 10 mins wasn't "enough" if you can believe that. In the end I bought the damned thing and got involved. Cheers James
  16. Thanks Tom, A great post - I used this tool last week to build the interactive checklists for the JRollon Jetstream 32.... but may I ask you to expand on this a little more!? As a person who is still quite new to X-Plane I wonder if you could offer any discussion around "Public vs Private" datarefs - how they work, how they are implemented and how to track them etc. I was able to get most of what I needed last week by examining the contents of files to "discover" custom datarefs, over and above what was visible in the dataref editor plugin. But there were a couple of "missing" datarefs that I simply had to reach out to Javier for... To give some context I am not a developer, but I am a techie who can learn by looking - although doesn't mean I will be able to develop afterwards! I have found you recent posts extremely informative, albeit beyond my understanding on some of the more mechanical engineering descriptions. If you wouldn't mind giving me a little more background knowledge around the "digging for datarefs" I would be most grateful. Cheers James
  17. No problem, glad you like it! Cheers James
  18. Hi John, I have sent "snailpup" a private message on x-plane.org, I've sent him an email using an address on his blog, and I have asked one of his "friends" on the x-plane.org forum if he knew how to get hold of him. Hopefully one of these avenues will yield some results.... but until X-Plane goes final on 64bit I don't suppose we can't expect snailpup to do anything about porting his plugins over to 64bit as he may only want to do it "once". The last activity for him on the .org was back in September 2012, so hopefully he was aware that 64bit was just around the corner - but perhaps not. Here's hoping! Cheers James
  19. No worries at all. You're still looking around, I get that. My first week of X-Plane, having been "loyal" to FSX/P3D for years was full of: "Doh! How do I do this *simple* thing when it should be right in front of... Oh there it is, OK then." Still finding my way around a little, but the learning curve does start to drop off with some time and patience. Sufficed to say, I have more fun/time *doing* things in XP than previously. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be in "one camp" or another until the end of time, I like to keep an open mind - but at present the "switch" I made to XP has got a firm hold. Good luck with the rest of your evaluation. Cheers James
  20. It's live everyone! Cameron just approved the file in the library. Cheers James
  21. Most impressive Chris. Well done! Cheers James
  22. No it's fine - I've just tested it twice - desktop and iPad. And the download for the beta appears to be a 250Mb .zip file. I would suggest trying again. Cheers James
  23. Shoot! I knew the file had to be authorised by Cameron, but from my browser it looked "ready" and complete - in that I could search for it and access it no problem. I guess I need to wait until the: Approved by: CameronApproved on: 22 January 2013 - 05:29 PM...bit updates for it to become visible to everyone else. Sorry for the false start, I seem to have had a couple of glitches like this - overly keen! Oh well, next time will be better (3rd time lucky!) and it'll be worth the wait, I promise. Cheers James
  24. Hi there, I am very pleased to announce the general availability of version 0.8 of the Bae Jetstream 32 Checklister plugin ".clist" Interactive Checklist - which includes 24 separate checklists and loads of dataref integration to speed up your operations whilst keeping you accurate at the same time. It's been a really fun exercise to put this together for you guys, it feels good to contribute something back to the community. Please follow this link to get to the updated build: http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/files/file/376-bae-jetstream-32-interactive-checklist/ I'd also like to make a special mention to "Cooley" of this forum who was kind enough to give his time to beta test, correct and suggest specific items for the various checklists based on his real-world experience of flying J32s for an airline. You can now fly with some level of confidence that you now have a helping hand on the right-hand side who'll keep you from making too many mistakes and let you get the most out of your (amazing!) Jetstream 32. All the relevant details are contained in the .zip file - enjoy, I hope it helps! Cheers James
