  1. I love Turboprops. Period. That said, I've said before that I have an irrational attraction to the Beechcraft KingAir C90B ... heck, I love any KingAir, and it's with this mind-set that I see the Carenado KingAir. It is beautiful to look at and also beautiful to fly. It feels right to me and takes suspension of believe to that warm and fuzzy zone for me. Systems wise it's complex enough so that there is a real feeling of being involved with the airplane in flight; Carenado/Dan have done a very good job with this one ... I would easily put it on par with the MU-2 and the JS32 ... credit where credit is due. If you love turboprops you should get this airplane.
  2. You should read them anyway, if you're planning to utilize the service. If something goes haywire, ignorance is not an acceptable defense. However, it sounds to me that you need to join it and absorb the environment for a while to get a feel for the culture. It's often better (and less painful for everyone concerned) to observe quietly in the background, keep your eyes peeled and ears to the ground than to brazen something out.
  3. Well ... here's my slightly more measured perpsective as an ex soldier and I come from a line of 'em. My father was a solder, my grandfather (who died as a POW in Sandakan), and two great uncles were soldiers who died in Gallipoli and in France respectively both at the age of 18. On Rememberance Day and on ANZAC day we grieve for family we've lost in these wars as ALL families do, and we grieve for the pain and suffering these wars inflict on entire societies ... but we are well aware that war is the game of empire, and those who die on all sides of conflict have been pawns of empire driven by power and greed. I think it's important to commemorate these days, but not for the reasons most people think. In my mind their 'country' forsake their true memory ... and only keep up appearances as a marketing exercise. The common idea of patriotism that's normally trotted out, with all the parades, platitudes, movies and television ... it's mostly marketing inspired rhetoric. A dead soldier is indeed a victim, but he or she may also have been heroic in their struggle through life and in their final moments. I regard the people I know who died in conflict as heroes ... every one of them, because when fate found them where they were, they dealt with it the best way they could one way or another ... and their humanity lives on. Things are not always so black and white, and many heroes die outside of wars as well. To cap off this little story, I'd like to share that I have a great affinity with the stories about my grandfather who died in the Sandakan death marches. He was a tailor in civvy life and was probably too old to go to war .. but he did because he thought he was doing the right thing and I honour him for that. But the thing that moves me most about my grandfather, is that while he was a POW, he used to sew dungarees out of canvas duffle bags for the other POW's. He used the best skill he had (tailoring garments) to help his mates and make life a little more bearable for all of them ... and you won't see that type of heroism in any dang movie. He was known by his mates as "Tailor Bill". Cheers!
  4. Just got the AN-2 by Red Eyes. She's a beauty .. now just got to learn to fly it within it's limits.
  5. I have 3 contenders on equal footing for the position of 'my' favourite aircraft .. They are (in no particular order); the SAAB, the MU-2 & the JetStream 32. I'm also partial to the C185 from Carenado and the PC-12 from STMA ... but these are my 2nd tier favourites.
  6. Lol! Everything is marketing ... there's a lot of hoopla but eventually we'll get the 100th or thousandth monkey (whatever that tipping point number is) ... Truth is XP will develop @ it's own pace. It's been developing just fine and will most likely continue to do so, whether or not it's gets approval from the FSX world.
  7. Guys, thanks for the answers! I feel a bit more positive about this now. I've downloaded Blender and located a few good tutorials .. baby steps . Cheers!
  8. I've two projects in mind that I think I might be able to tackle ... and I feel motivated to do it. Project One; I'd like to create a 3D cockpit for the STMA Pilatus PC-12 .. and improve the texture of the body or maybe even re-create the body ... maybe as a visual sleeve over the existing functioning Plane Maker model (lol, I'm making this up as I go along as I have zero experience with this! ). The PC-12 already comes with a 3D pit, but it's the 'flat' variety ... I'd like to transform it into the 'real' 3D type (with protrusions) and all existing switches 'manipulatable'. From a technical perspective, is this possible? I love the Pilatus PC-12 to bits as a very effective money earner in FSEconomy that comes with enough of the systems fidelity for me to enjoy flying it ... it's very absorbing to fly and handles very well. If this is possible (from a technical perspective) I'll take the next step and ask Papamac if he'd mind me doing this (for my own use!). Project Two; I've already raised this one, it's about the default KingAir C90B .. I'd like to make the rest of the switches functional and maybe program the fuel management. I guess the main stumbling block for this one will be the programming; so this one feels a lot scarier. BTW, the C90B is the 2nd best money earner in FSE, and the best 'starter' plane for FSE (I think) . Which one of these two is more doable (or doable at all !!). Cheers! Kris
  9. You pose a rhetorical question; and I think you need to re-read what I wrote ... and then put it into context. Cheers!
  10. It depends what one is 'training'. If it's how to use complex avionics .. then most of the planes in X-Plane will fail. For some aspects of procedural training it does no better or worse than any other X-Plane aircraft. You're already hamstrung by sitting in front of a monitor pretending to fly an airplane. I thinks it is possible to become overly anal-retentive about these things. It's similar to people who think they have usable infantry skills because they play a complex first person shooter . However!! I take your point about expectations re performance parameters .. well ... how they're represented in sim anyhow.
  11. It's one of my favorite aircraft, very sexy ... looking forward to it very much! There can NEVER be enough KingAir C90B's or 200's ...
  12. Nope! I think everyone can see it
  13. Mate, you're on the wrong forum ... take a gander @ the address -> http://forums.x-pilot.com
  14. Honestly arb65912, this is such an amazingly selfish response! I hope you understand that other people are investing their time trying to get the information they need to find answers for your problems, but you're willfully thwarting any attempt! If you're not serious about working out your issues with the SAAB then quit moaning fer crying out aloud! Who cares mate! It's not pertinent to solving the issue. This thread is about working through issues with the SAAB ... Presumably you're here to go through a fair process and get resolution ... but it sounds like you're here to vent your spleen. Imagine .. a lunch time scene at a construction site ... somewhere in the universe the amazing Peanut Butter Sandwich Parable unfolds ... Sol (opening his lunch box): Dang-it! I've got peanut butter sandwiches again! I ferking HATE peanut butter sandwiches! Why do I ALWAY's get peanut butter sandwiches?! Dave: Hey Sol, why don'tcha just tell the missus not to make you peanut butter sandwiches? Sol: What'cha talking about Dave?? Don't be a silly-solly ... I'm single mate, I make my own sandwiches ... (Btw, we all make our own sandwiches ...)
  15. Just make a copy of your entire current X-Plane install ... call it something slightly different and make that your beta testing install. The neither the OS or X-Plane care how many concurrent copies you have on your PC. You may need to pay a wee bit more attention to remember which one you're flying, but the installer will identify your different installs and treat them as separate installs.
  16. Arb, I've always thought you were a cool guy, but yes .. you were wrong with the faulty reasoning resulting in faulty conclusions. Also you weren't exactly forthcoming with information pertinent to a resolution. Instead you came across as being sarcastic .. and a wee bit hasty. Had I been the tech support guy, I would not want to support your ticket ... it's hard to get the job done when attitude becomes a major part of the equation. I gather there's a bit of a language issue here, as Cameron said " I have no further recommendations"; which you interpreted as him having no recommendations at all! If you'd understood the entire thread up to that point, you would've seen that it's made up of a bunch of pertinent information and recommendations.
  17. Yes .. it's a good time to be an X-Planer Thanks John!
  18. Hey Valentin, that last video is in West Papua (technically not PNG) ... the signs were in Indonesian, and the Porter has an Indonesian rego. Have fond memories of the PC-6 ... brilliant plane ... but the model I flew as baggage had steam dials. Of course also looking forward to you finishing yours (I hope it has steam dials!). Hope it doesn't take too long.
  19. Australian Outback (Northern Territory, Western Australia, Northern Queensland, the Red Centre, South Australia etc) and Papua New Guinea has some excellent bush flying as well .
  20. I just don't like Steam ... old fashioned I guess .. but a 'unified' Linux environment for game developers is not a bad thing.
  21. Which brings us back to square one. My impression Valentin, is that you demand for things to happen and readily criticize the effort that other people have made ... e.g. Sandy Barbour in this particular thread. How do you think he would feel after he's shared his effort, to hear (or see) the opinion that his implementation is "totally dumb"? You then go on to propose what should be done to 'fix it' .. again without regard to the effort and toil of another person. This is not a case of being 'politically incorrect', it's a case of needing to understand some common sense and manners. If you can do .. then do. If you can't do but criticize those that do .. you lose all credibility, and that takes a bit of work to recover.
  22. Woa there! A man of your outstanding abilities is asking someone else to do your work for you? C'mon, Ben's given you a gift ... and you still want stuff without expending any sweat yourself? Not cool man.
  23. Mate, when I was 18 I was sheeting my britches .. wondering what the hell I'd gotten myself into. I also had a healthy respect for my 'elders' as my survival depended upon it.
  24. Thanks Cameron, I appreciate it! *************************************************** @ Hueyman, live and learn my young friend. Just remember ... everything you do or say has an outcome (there're always consequences). You can either help to shape it to your benefit ... or get caught up in the current and wonder why things happen. Everyone has exactly the same set of choices .
  25. No it's not 'totally dumb' ... it's a manifestation of a perspective that doesn't match yours. I use the work-around that I proscribed and it works well for me. I'm also eminently grateful to Sandy Barbour for creating the plugin in the first place. My suggestion to you is that you either; Write your own plugin that suites your modus operandi, or Find a way to communicate with some sense of humility (i.e. lose your air of entitlement), with Sandy Barbour, or ... RTFM ... it's all in the manual, and you're exhibiting impatience and impetuosity ... both traits that can get a young pilot killed ... especially if they're thinking of a career in Army Aviation ... trust me I know.
