Bumpy Runways and Taxiways in Converted Scenery

Yep - that file is basically the finished product of the instructions I posted earlier. -
Bumpy Runways and Taxiways in Converted Scenery

Fair enough! The other method makes more sense for me still as I tend to use OE a lot anyway so the "hardening" process is pretty speedy anyway (I use it in a library so it is always available). Great to know there are other methods out there though! I can think of another use for a similar thing though, how would I go about using it (I imagine there will be similar code) to increase the LOD distance for ground textures in converted sceneries? I often find this to be the most tedious part of conversion as FS2XP likes to set tiny distances of about 500, when often 10000+ is more appropriate! Editing .obj files to change this is horrid... -

I found a slightly less code heavy solution - make an invisible polygon which has an asphalt (or concrete) surface. Add it in using OE or WED and off you go! For slightly more detail, here: 1 - Open Photoshop (or any other image editing tool which allows DDS file saving/exporting) - make sure you have Nvidia's texture tools installed from here. 2 - Create a new image (2x2px is fine, and saves space!) and make sure it is entirely transparent. 3 - Save as a DDS, make sure the alpha channel saving is set to DXT3 - this makes sure X-Plane sees it as transparent. If in Photoshop, the Nvidia settings tool dialogue should look something like this: Call the texture what you like, for this example mine is "SurfaceFixer.DDS" 4 - Create a new text file, in the same directory as the texture you just made, and paste this code into it: I850DRAPED_POLYGONTEXTURE_NOWRAP SurfaceFixer.ddsSURFACE concreteSCALE 256 256LAYER_GROUP terrain +15 - Edit the texture name to match the one you created. Save this text file with whatever name you like, followed by a .pol suffix. 6 - Add this new file to the objects folder in your scenery. 7 - Open OE or WED, find this polygon, place it over paved surfaces, and you're done! Hope this helps some of you - took me ages to solve! -
I believe it's the work of someone who didn't like the original, so sadly it isn't official (yet... I hope!) so I don't know about the exterior - I've never found that side of things too bad though.

You could argue even Peter's A380 has some FlightFactor in it - the 3D 'pit was made by Ramzzess, remember! As for the 777, there is an updated 3D cockpit coming out soon which looks excellent.
-
Peter, I think those first two shots deserve the award for 'most difficult to find seam' - That sky and ocean merge together almost perfectly!

I have a feeling he really is talking about the outboard section of flap, rather than the aileron; they don't seem to align quite right - which, perhaps, they should, if you compare to this image:

Here are some shots of another leg of my Europe, and also the longest: Berlin Brandenburg (EDDB) to Helsinki Vantaa (EFHK) in the FF 757-200RR. At the Gate Left Turnout Landing! This was also my first full 757 flight, and I think I've fallen in love with it! There's a full flight album if you click here, for those interested!

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation!

So, from my (very rough) interpretation of those, it means that those of us who want to will be able to set the quality of mesh in future, without installing packs like your HD mesh?
-
Little bit off topic, but what will dynamic tessellation do in X-Plane? Sounds interesting!

The first (technically fourth, but I only came up with the idea today) of my new adventure in X-Plane: A trip around Europe! This leg - Southampton (SOU/EGHI) to Hamburg (HAM/EDDH). Climbing out of EGHI - This is my first full flight with Skymaxx v2 since I've been on Holiday, and boy, it is Gorgeous! And leveling off over Heathrow, with extra beacon! Afraid I didn't take any more shots after this as it got dark, but there was only a mildly bumpy (and ever-so-slightly rainy) landing in Hamburg so a good start to the trip!

Those engines look a lot better! The cowling isn't as chunky-looking any more!

EGCC Manchester Airport (Aerosoft/Icarus Development Team)
jettojig replied to ilias.tselios's topic in Scenery Development
By the way guys, I'm flying home through Manchester T1 on the 13th, if there are any photos you'd like I'd be happy to try and get some! I have a couple from the outbound journey and various other spotting trips too if they help.- 70 replies

EGCC Manchester Airport (Aerosoft/Icarus Development Team)
jettojig replied to ilias.tselios's topic in Scenery Development
This is some damn exciting news! The old freeware Manchester wasn't really doing it anymore, and since this is the biggest airport near me I fly there a lot - really look forward to getting it!- 70 replies

A quick jaunt in the FlyJSim 737-200 this morning... ...and a flight between Humberside and Amsterdam in the CRJ-200 (my first full flight in it for ages!) in the evening. Inspired by the sighting of this real KLM F70 at Humberside during my Qualifying cross-country for my PPL!

Generally, this site and x-plane.org have the majority of free aircraft available! As for the FMC, the standard 747 one is extremely basic, you basically use the buttons to select a type of navaid, then type in the name of the navaid and it is entered. Press the next page button, repeat as necessary, and you have a flight plan! If you want help on what to enter, try a flight plan generator like http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ - just enter your departure and destination airports, and copy the names of each waypoint provided! If you really want a good map, you're best off with an external application like the free and very powerful EFASS ( http://froom.de/efass/ )! This can also create flight plans which can be exported to X-plane to be loaded by the FMC using the save/load keys. I think the best way to get key commands, and to change them, is indeed in the menu Keith mentioned. Have a god look at these, though most are fairly intuitive (g for gear toggle, 1 and 2 for flaps up/down etc.) Hope this helps!

Malaysian Airlines 777 crashed over Ukraine
jettojig replied to SwissCyul's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. I mentioned on another forum that it seems likely the only reason most airlines weren't avoiding the area was simply because of an "it won't affect us" mentality and the fact that it is the most common (and thus probably the fastest/most efficient) route... -

If the separatists have the flight recorder, things could get troublesome. I doubt it will contain anything that may incriminate them if they hand it over though, so perhaps they will be more willing than you would expect - they're already going along with the idea of a ceasefire to allow investigations. -
Malaysian Airlines 777 crashed over Ukraine

I just saw this news while eating dinner - needless to say, it put me off a lot. Terrible news for all involved, and it looks like the families of those in the aircraft now have to deal with a likely drawn-out blame game, which won't be nice - My thoughts go out to them. As for Malaysian, this is the second 777 they've lost in 4 months, and while we know that this wasn't their fault, combined with MH370 they're going to have to deal with an incredible amount of bad publicity as well as the totally unexpected loss of two heavy airframes - I feel their future may be very wobbly right now. If the reports of 295 souls on board are correct, that would also make this the 8th deadliest aircraft disaster ever, according to http://www.planecrashinfo.com/worst100.htm -
Holy moley this is big news! I really hope there's a way for us current users to quickly integrate things, don't want to be installing a whole new version for it!'d expect steam keys are a given...
-
That would be brilliant, I'm desperate to try this!

Looks like we have a little bit of 737 fever tonight guys! Here are a couple more from when I was playing around at Doncaster/Sheffield earlier today.

Shall we get back on topic? Taxiing the 732 at Geneva!

Look in the object files for each tile of the photoscenery that covers the area. If it is a draped polygon (it should be) then add the line LAYER_GROUP terrain +1into the scenery to see if that helps, so it looks something like: TEXTURE_NOWRAP [Texture]TEXTURE_LIT_NOWRAP [texture_LIT]SCALE 1220 1220LAYER_GROUP terrain +1LOAD_CENTER 25.35095215 54.93896484 1725 256Try fiddling with the +1 value to see if it helps, or try using taxiways -1 instead. Hopefully that will help!
