  1. +36 hours in the 777 sim training. Plus 737 & 747 ratings. Plus the FO (instructor) had 3700+ hours. That is a lot of experience on the flight deck.
  2. Totally agree. I just can't imagine this being pilot error. If anything, you're doubly diligent when you're training and doing something new. Something led them to believe that the aircraft was properly configured and the airspeed was adequate. If they realised 7 seconds out there was a major problem, then they would have gone to TOGA straight away. They should have had significant power within 2 or 3 seconds and near maximum within 5 seconds as per industry standards. While it doesn't lead to an immediate increase of airspeed, it doesn't appear to have helped at all - which is odd. Man, I'm impressed with the survivability of this aircraft though. It seems most people simply walked away. Amazing.
  3. It's a bit odd to call someone with 9700 hours in commercial jets 'unexperienced'[sic]. And I'd be more than a little surprised if the FO (very experienced 777 pilot) thought "oh, I'll just let him crash it as part of his training...". Anyway, Priorities in the modern world...
  4. I assume there was a technical problem. You don't accidentally land short of a runway (especially where it's water) and not know you're short well beforehand. http://flightaware.com/news/article/story/182 The aircraft seems to lose a lot of altitude within spitting distance of the runway. Prior to that moment, the entire track looks spot on.

    Autogate

Use it as in 1) create scenery that uses it, or 2) park at an airport and see it work?
  6. Check the properties of each object
  7. Is the missing piece all one piece, or a whole lot? If it's one piece, you might have a vertex cross-over somewhere (that's where a polygon's edges crosses over its own edge - lookup 'crossing paths' in the WED manual). This would cause the whole thing to disappear.
  8. Hmmm, I this it's the same aircraft from 2 photo's stitched together.
  9. At a wild guess (due to lack of info), you're trying to lock on to an ILS approach, and are wondering how. Read up on ILS & NAV & Glideslopes. Basically, you're going to tune your Nav1 radio to the runway's ILS frequency, use the Nav Source knob to select Nav 1 (not FMS), press NAV & APPR, the approach the runway until you get a lock - maybe about 10nm out. The X-Plane manual has a section on ILS navigation and a quick Google turned up excellent tutorial results. The CRJ tutorial has some instructions starting about page 46 - although you would be well advised to start at the beginning.
  10. In short, yes. In WED, you should see a Library Panel on the left. If you can't see it, select View -> Restore Frames You should see a 'lib', which contains XP default scenery items. You simply select the things you are interested in out of there. XP uses a library referencing system to make this all work without having any OS specific paths in your scenery package.
  11. I wouldn't go moving any files out of the default scenery locations if I were you. Other scenery is bound to use it from it's default location, and you'll get your 'missing scenery' problems again. The other thing is, I'm not sure you can distribute your scenery (ie: upload it to the org) if you have potentially copyrighted material included in your scenery package. It's OK to reference it (using the lib entry), but not to copy it. I could be wrong about that, but it'd be worth checking.
  12. Are you adding this via a library? ie: (in WEB) by selecting from the Library on the left: lib/g8/rainforestxxxxxx.for If not, that is the way you should add it.
  13. Does: C:\X-Plane 10/X-Plane 10/Resources/default scenery/900 forests/rainforest.for ...actually exist on your PC? If not, check your installation.
  14. The TrackIR makes a big difference, especially 10m (30ft) off the ground, otherwise you're going to have to set your view to something like 85 degrees. Good fun though.
  15. Comedian Kurt Braunohler raised $6000 to hire a guy to write stupid signs in the sky. Awesome
  16. B777 200: http://www.xpjets.com/aircraft/b777/ B777-300: http://forums.xplanefreeware.net/topic/489-boeing-777-300er/ These may help.
  17. http://www1.nasa.gov/centers/dryden/news/FactSheets/FS-003-dfrc.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Boeing_727_crash_experiment ...but beside those, controlling anything remotely is rather passe / old hat. Now do it with a bunch of passengers on board, and that would be interesting. I suspect it'll be a loong time before you start convincing people to fly on a plane where the flight crew are not in the same boat (taking the same risk) as the passengers. Besides, you wonder what the point is.
  18. People have been flying empty aircraft remotely for many many years. Nothing new there.
  19. I suspect you wouldn't see a lot of ferries in the background scenery of Heathrow
  20. Would be awesome...except trying to click on a 'FD' or 'LOC' (etc) with your mouse...and the G is quite close to the B, so be careful after landing, because accidentally hitting G could lead to a big Bump! Re: unmanned fighters, either they mean future fighters will be womanned, or the US/EU is no longer going to sell aircraft to allied customers.
  21. ..and of course, I have to mention a beginners guide: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=65834 ...I should post that here shouldn't I.....
  22. Could be either a permission problem, or you're using the same name as an existing custom scenery pack. What OS are you? Have you set the X-Plane 10 path in WED?
  23. That happened some months ago.
  24. or maybe there's something in the water in that area?
