  1. Thanks NR, and everyone else, order is placed. Cheers, Kieran
  2. Another thing guys and girls if you don't mind. What sort of extra bits and pieces would I need to put a system like this together? The motherboard should come with all the SATA cables, the power supply with power cables, etc. The cooler comes with thermal paste pre-applied I believe. So are there any other bits and pieces I'd need?
  3. Thanks guys, I did some more reading on the WD Blacks, and thanks for the advice NR, I think I will go with black over green
  4. Thanks for the feedback all, very much appreciated. I have been looking at a few videos on YouTube from ASUS, which say the Z87 Motherboards come with a 4-way optimisation software, which in the videos, with one click OC'd a 4770K to 4.8GHz on an air-cooler. Regarding HDDs, I was thinking of getting 2 2TB HDDs for raid, and am tossing up between RAID 0 or 1. I will obviously want to back up all my files in some fashion, hence RAID 1, but also thinking that RAID 0 could increase performance. Any opinions regarding this would be great. Also would WD Reds be of consideration instead of a Black or Green, or it Black the way to go? I've also realised I'll need a network card to connect to my WiFi, ethernet isn't practical due to the locations of the computer and router, so is there anything to look out for with network cards? Thanks again all! Kieran
  5. Hi guys and girls, I'm looking into building a new computer. It will be my first build, and just thought someone might be able to look over the specs and see if anything stands out (not compatible, poor choice of part, serious bottleneck, etc.). Thanks in advance. CPU: i7 4770K (planning on overclocking, which I haven't done before either, from what I've read on the internet 4.5 GHz should be acceptable) Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth Z87 GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti Windforce 3X (For me Nvidia is the only option because of the CUDA cores and 3D rendering) RAM: Corsair Vengance 16GB (2x 8GB) 1600MHz SSD: SanDisk Extreme II 240GB HDD: WD 2TB Green 3.5" Case: NZXT Phantom 630 Ultra PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GOLD 850W Modular (the GPU draws 600W, so is 850W going to be enough?) CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit Cheers, Kieran
  6. Yes GPU and graphics card are the same
  7. Based on the fact the CPU Load is only 0.414 I'd be really interested to know what your graphics card is. The 0.414 means that out of the time taken to draw a frame, the CPU is only busy for 41.4% of it, therefore the Graphics Card is the bottleneck. Which is backed up by the fact the i5 is a pretty good processor and you should be getting more that 4 FPS with factory settings. The F-Sim number is the frame rates the simulator is operating on, so in your case the simulator is seeing 19.90 frames as 1 second, while the F-Act is the actual frame rates being rendered by your computer. So your computer is rendering 4.615 frames every second, but the simulator is simulating time as though 1 second elapses every 19.90 seconds. As has been stated a screenshot of your rendering settings and a complete system specs would be very useful in this case.
  8. Have you tried any jets?
  9. I've watched both parts, and for someone who doesn't know anything about aeroplane he does a pretty good job. Though I would imagine most people here would find the names he gives somethings quite amusing. But he does give you an introduction in how to model the whole aircraft, which for a beginner to Blender would be very handy. You take the techniques shown here (windshield isn't the best technique) and your knowledge of how planes are made and you'll go along way. The end result of there tutorials is reasonably low poly (without the subdivision surface modifier) and could be quite useful for scenery objects. Just my 2 cents
  10. Put it this way, I plan to finish my Extra before I work more on the SAAB. Plus being in my final year of school, and other various things going on in my life, I have very little spare time for X-Plane development work. I'm still around, and I still have the files and everything, so I wouldn't say it is dead, but it won't be released for quite some time.
  11. This is a thread last updated in March 2011...
  12. Take-off and landing of the SAAB 340A doing a circuit of NZCH at night with almost 0 visibility.
  13. Thanks Ben, makes sense now. You're welcome Michael.
  14. Ben, would I be correct in saying that it is best to use commands for the functionality of buttons, i.e. so that when you press them they interact with X-Plane, and that datarefs are best used for animations, i.e. showing to the user that the button has been pressed?
  15. Try this: http://www.xsquawkbox.net/xpsdk/mediawiki/sim%252Fcockpit%252Fautopilot%252Fairspeed_mode
  16. Just keep it in V10, it will make development much easier and allow for a better finished product. Support for V9 will end up being dropped at some point in the future anyway, may as well make it now before you put too much more effort in.
  17. Thanks Cameron and canox, I've got it sorted now. Cheers
  18. Hi all, So it's been a while since I last flew the CRJ-200, so I decided to follow the tutorial included with the CRJ-200 to refresh my memory. That is where I struck my problem. When I get to program the flight plan into the FMS I am unable to access the second page to insert the waypoints. The screenshot attached shows me having inserted the Destination and Flight Number, as per the tutorial, but in the top right hand corner of the FMS note it says page 1/1, instead of 1/2 as shown in the tutorial. The tutorial, and manual, say that the second page is created automatically, but it appears in my case it hasn't. I have tried clicking the next-page button, but to no avail. Just wondering if someone here could shed some light on what I am doing wrong, I believe I am following the tutorial to the letter, but apparently not (though I have tried several times). I also tried re-installing the CRJ-200 just in case, but again, to no avail. Regards, Kieran
  19. Just to let you know, you don't have to re-fill all the faces when going back from 2.6x to 2.49. Just choose save as, and on the left hand panel choose 'legacy file format', or something along those lines, and then you can open it up in 2.49 no problem unless you have some crazy complex animations, which I would doubt as they aren't required for X-Plane purposes. The change came with the implementation of BMesh into Blender, which allows for faces with more that 4 vertices. So if you have faces with more than 4 vertices you will probably have to fill these in, but you shouldn't have these sorts of faces in your finished mesh, they are more there to speed up modelling. This way you can model in 2.69, as I do as I prefer the new interface, the added tools, and because I use Blender for more than just X-Plane. Then once you're finished modelling (and texturing as well if you want to do that in 2.69), save as as above, set up the animations in 2.49 as you need the scripts to do it, then export from there.
  20. Anyone got a mop to clean up my drool? Absolutely loving it. Great work guys.
  21. Very nice there WombatBoy. Not for X-Plane, but something I made in Blender.
  22. No worries Nicola, anytime.
  23. X-Plane's .obj format is different to the wavefront .obj, confusing I know. Download the exporter for that version of Blender here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=47934&page=42 But TBH, it would be easier just to make it with a misc. wing.
  24. Blender 2.6 allows you to change the units in which you are working. It enables you to move things by feet or meters, but I'm still pretty sure that it stores the information in Blender units and the interface just does the conversions on the fly.
  25. That is top notch stuff there Ben. For something like that the sale price should be no less than $100!
