RealScenery Enhanced Expansion PackReno & Carson City 1080P
RealScenery replied to Jim Kallinen's topic in Videos
Looks great, Jim. While this is a great add-on area for NorCal, it can certainly be used as a stand-alone scenery add-on for X-Plane. This scenery shares a common border along the west and south sides with the NorCal scenery, making it a logical extension. However, this Reno / Carson City area scenery covers over 3700 sq mi (9500 sq km) making it an awesome stand-alone scenery pack as well. -

This new scenery includes the entire 1 degree DSF so it extends way beyond the Reno/Carson City area. You can find out more here: http://www.realscenery.com/prod_reno.html Cameron will have a product description on X-Aviation soon. Eric

My pleasure. It's nice seeing the X-Aviation products together. Can't wait till the three RealScenery packages hit the streets. I think we'll see a lot of pics/vids of XA planes over RealScenery. Should be pretty cool!

I was waiting for your reaction after I said that! Your plane makes my scenery look even nicer! They complement each other well. ;D

Nice scenery!

You are right, Jimmy. Ben Supnik posted a response on the ORG today about Austin's X-Plane 10 news. Ben mentioned that previous X-Plane scenery should work fine. I will be testing this with the early beta releases of v10 when they finally hit the streets to make sure they work just as they do in v9. I can assure you that the example provided by Austin today about photo-scenery is not what you'll find with RealScenery. Look at the gallery postings of NorCal, Oahu, and Reno and you can see what you're getting - much different than what he described. Also, the roads in RealScenery are from large-scale data sources and match the imagery very well, not like the more generalized roads present in X-Plane 9. That's the reason for the roads not matching the imagery. In most cases, it is because the roads used by X-Plane are from small-scale sources which are not as positionally accurate as the underlying imagery - that's why you have a road right on top of a Wal-Mart, as he indicated.

Dan is correct. This value is for future use in X-Plane. Feel free to put any value you want in here, as it won't have any affect on your airport. Good luck designing your home field.

A RealScenery Arizona customer just sent this screenshot to share. I'm sure the Strearman pilot has some nice cool air compared to the hot desert canyons below.

Hi Dick, Here are the approximate resolutions per pixel. NorCal: 1.8 m/pixel Reno: 0.9 m/pixel Oahu: 0.9 m/pixel Tuscon and Phoenix: 1.2 m/pixel Hope this helps! Eric

I know that this is at the top of X-Aviation's priority list now. There were several other projects that needed to be done in front of mine, and a lot of work that had to be done prior to the Oshkosh show. I'm as excited as all of you to have this released. I don't know all the details of what has to be done since that is all being developed by Indi and Cameron. However, an entirely new backend is being built to handle simultaneous downloads and give the best customer experience for downloads of this size. I believe it is in the final stages of development now. A lot of $ and time have been spent on the product itself as well as the purchasing/download engine. In addition to the whole NorCal package, it is also being divided into smaller scenery areas which can be purchased separately, so the packaging and methods used to support sales of all these products has to be developed. NorCal is one product, but it is also 26 separate products . Add Oahu and Reno in the mix and that's 28 products to be released nearly at the same time. http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=917.msg7618#msg7618 There was also some custom work to be done on the transparent roads and also bridges which added to our development time. Thanks for your patience everyone! Until it is released, you can enjoy the galleries posted on RealScenery.com and imagine flying over these areas with the awesome aircraft released by the other X-Aviation/X-Pilot developers. Thankyou and a prezzie - a surprise interview
RealScenery replied to Simmo W's topic in General Discussion
Great interview, Simon. Always a pleasure to hear what Javier has to say. I always learn a lot from reading these. Look forward to your next one! -
Austin sent out an email to the X-Plane News Yahoo Group last night. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/xplane-news/

Nice job, Wolfgang! You timed that weather pretty well with the clouds breaking right above Meteor Crater! Nice job! Eric

Yes - That's just default X-Plane airports. All of our new scenery (NorCal, Oahu, Reno) packages have all of the airports edited to match the underlying imagery exactly. For NorCal, this was done for nearly 400 airports and took a few months of my time! Many of the positions of the default airports are not from actual surveys, but are only positional estimates and can be off significantly, as you've seen here. Most of the larger airports will have their runways aligned perfectly with the imagery because of the higher precision with which the runway locations are measured.

Hey Rush, Good questions - yes pricing has been pretty-well nailed down, but not absolutely finalized yet. However, I can tell you that NorCal will be available in two ways: you can purchase the whole package, or just selected scenery areas. If you have limited funds, you may want to just purchase the part of NorCal in which you're most interested. For example, if you want the San Francisco area, you could just purchase the one or two scenery areas covering the greater S.F. urban area which would include SFO, OAK, and SJC (San Francisco Int'l, Oakland Int'l, and San Jose Int'l) as well as many smaller GA airports. However, you'll find that if you want four of the scenery areas, you'll be better off just purchasing all of NorCal since the price will be about the same as four individual areas. The individual NorCal areas that may be purchased separately may be viewed here: http://www.realscenery.com/images/norcal_index.jpg Both Oahu and Reno are special high-resolution areas that have both higher-res imagery and elevation terrain data than the default X-Plane scenery. They also feature custom hydrographic data as well. These areas will be priced higher than the equivalent NorCal scenery sections. Also, Reno neighbors the NorCal scenery, so if you want to do flights in and out of Reno Int'l to some of the NorCal airports, this might be something else to consider. A new product map and full descriptions of the scenery as well as gallery links are now available on RealScenery.com. X-Aviation will have their own product pages with galleries and ordering info soon. Hope this helps.

The official gallery for the "Biggest Little City in the World" is now available. Great mix of both urban and beautiful desert scenery with a nice variety of airports. See if you can find the big letter "C" and with the American flag on the mountain above Carson City, the capital of the state of Nevada. 8) http://bit.ly/dc2dMa Until the scenery is released, enjoy this preview!

Oshkosh is the world's busiest airport this week. www.airventure.org Check out this X-Pilot post about Oshkosh. http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=1048.0

Hey Rush, My understanding from X-Aviation is that all three packages: Oahu, NorCal, and Reno will be available shortly after AirVenture at Oshkosh. I would anticipate that all three packages will be released about the same time. Thanks for your interest! Eric

Hi Wing06, Welcome to X-Pilot. There is an add-on that may do exactly what you want. I don't know how your view appears in MSFS, but take a look at this: http://www.digital-avionics.com/scenic/ Hope you have fun with your new copy of X-Plane.

The official RealScenery gallery for the Island of Oahu is now available. Look for release of this package soon after the big Oshkosh airshow. http://bit.ly/9Tw5ZY Enjoy!

Saw the Twitter feeds before this hit the newswires... From AvWeb: On Tuesday afternoon, a loud bang was heard across Aeroshell Square as a Beechcraft Premier jet pancaked onto the runway and broke in half. No flames or smoke were seen, and rescue crews are were on the scene at about 7 p.m. The tail number shows that the aircraft is registered to Roush Racing. EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski told AVweb that early unconfirmed reports he had heard were that two were people were on board and both were out and standing. A pilot who witnessed the crash told AVweb that the jet appeared to be coming in to land on Runway 18, then seemed to be initiating a go-around when one wing dropped, and the jet fell toward the ground. More details will be posted as soon as they are available. Image here: http://www.avweb.com/newspics/osh2010_raytheon-premier-ia-crash_large.jpg

Congrats Hobofat! Good detective work, especially by someone who doesn't live near the area. As discussed in another post, the Reno area is a logical extension to the NorCal scenery. However, it will be sold as a separate product. NorCal only includes imagery within the state of California. Reno is a really fun area to fly around and the imagery contains the entire Reno metro area as well as Carson City, the Capital of the state of Nevada. I've included imagery for the entire 1 degree x 1 degree DSF, so there are several smaller airports included as well in the beautiful desert areas to the north and west of the metro areas.
