  1. While undoubtedly not the best value proposition, will it be possible to disable / not use the built in systems and effectively just use the flight model? I'm a cockpit builder and have systems handled outside of x-plane.
  2. A good projector setup is more immersive (imho) than a display setup though.
  3. One method is to use separate avionics. There is a variety of software for doing this ranging from $0 to $thousands. Most runs on windows however. I created a thread with links to cockpit builder resources that may be useful. http://www.fly-euroh...pic,6794.0.html If the machines are just for flight simming then I would recommend using pcs rather than macs, if you intend to dual use them then ofc whatever your preference (or wont matter as much if xpuipc gets a mac server component). My current setup uses one pc with one monitor to display front visuals and an i7 laptop to run the project magenta mcp, efis, cdu, audio callouts and glass on 2 monitors. Later I will either add a third computer to run pm systems or run it off the laptop machine. Later possibilities are to run another 2 pcs with left and right visuals. and then more for upper and lower eicas and fo glass. tvs for display are fine for outside visuals but lack the clarity/sharpness/resolution of monitors so are less well suited to menus ui etc. but don't hve light washout issues and space requirements like projectors although you can get short throw projectors to help with this.
  4. He might mean actual 3d gauges like the b117 rather than painted ons.
  5. Shame if Aerosoft have a monopoly on Euro distribution as I've always found their prices to be exaggerated. Good to know all the regions discs are identical.
  6. Yep, works fine with x-plane, it appears as a USB controller, same as the CH or saitek joysticks and yokes. My primary flight sim is X-Plane and the 737 cockpit I am hoping to build is based around X-plane for the base sim. Wouldn't have got it if it was only for FSX. Was a long time deciding between an A320 or 737, but the more I learn about them, the more I think they are both fantastic aircraft. Went Boeing because for me: Yoke > Stick. Simples. She feels divine. Less stiff than the Concorde simulator's yoke at Brooklands Museum, but definitely a pro feel to it. I find flying smoother with it as small detail corrections seem easier. Possibly because of slightly more travel, although if so not by much. I still need to bolt her down properly yet but obviously a big step up from the CH / Saitek stuff with a corresponding price tag to boot. Prosumer level if you will. All metal construction makes a big difference to the feel of it and of course she looks fantastic. Still smiling.
  7. I saw the post on xp10blog and thought there was a glitch in the Matrix!
  8. FSX is really a Vista game. It runs much more stable on vista than Win 7 I have found which is why I have a vista install just for flight sim. As per my PM, check out the uiautomation.dll issue with Win 7 which should fix your crash issue. http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?203306-FSX-Win-7-issue&p=1368158#post1368158 My opinion is that X-Plane is the better base sim, but FSX has more mature addons and the advantage of larger market size. I would be tempted by the PMDG if I didn't use PM, but the iFly is also a good plane.
  9. The trick is catching those annual orbx sales and the pre-release discounts. Couldn't get at full price. Might be misleading to say I have almost all thinking about it. I have all the FTX regions currently released inc Australia and North America / Canada and all but one or two of the very small airports in NA. I have a couple of the larger Aus Airports but not the large number of smaller ones. Problem being of course that these regions are suited best to small GA aircraft which is where x-plane blows fsx out of the water, On a side note I just received my 737 yoke from Aircraft Controls Engineering a couple of days ago as well - the aim is to build a complete cockpit setup, Part by part. Love this yoke so much! Piccies: http://www.fly-euroharmony.com/forum/index.php/topic,6771.msg51099.html
  10. Simon, I've felt that way too on many occasions, but I do keep coming back to x-plane. Why? The fluid flight model and high frames. As you know I own almost all the OrbX scenery and tons of payware planes. Looks great but feels bland / lacks personality (not visually which is stunning - but as a feeling). My biggest gripe is how much better IVAO experience is on FSX than X-plane, hopefully this will improve with XP10. Admittedly I'm in a different situation. I bought Project Magenta and run all my systems modelling on a second computer. This gives me the FMC, systems and glass of the 737NG without the performance hit for frames on the main pc coupled with the x-plane fluidity of flight (Or FSX visuals If I run that sim). It's not a cheap option, but it is wonderful to use.
  11. An unreleased product is as much use as no product. As I said, I think the 3d modelling is alright (mostly based on the arcs). Sure there could be more detail, but it's much better than the texturing which is the achilles heel. You can get away with less detail in places if the texturing is top notch. Amazingly detailed but 2 fps is not as good as slightly less detailed, good textures and good frames, although I understand you can get away with a lot of objects anyway. I would pay for a good performance high detail airport though, should the price be right. If I remember correctly Ola, your texturing is pretty good. Just pick and finish something. I'm sure there's a market for oahu (bigger than the backwater stuff). Just remember that with xp10 there will be competition with the default airport scenery which looks pretty good.
  12. The buildings look alright, but could be better textured and the whole thing is let down by the ground photo textures. Not fond of that green. Reminds me of the early real scenery colouring. Ground could be cleaned up, removing shadowed objects, colours and resolution definately improved. Not the best advert for x-plane ever, and not up to msfs 2004 standards imho, but better than nothing.
  13. As Wombat says. McPhat are very well known in the MSFS world and have until recently been top tier repainters. Now they are looking to turn that repaint talent onto models made within (or pulled within) their team it would seem.
  14. I personally would get the nvidia GTX580. The real difference is ATI for 3 screens nvidia for 3d (as in nvidia 3dvision) Both cards will be great for x-plane.
  15. I can confirm that with the avionics running, activating the project magenta boeing autopilot causes x-plane to crash. I intend to disable the avionics later on, same as I'm currently running the CRJ-200 this way to allow me to fly it with XPUIPC.
  16. Has this now been taken over / worked in to McPhat Studios? I see on McPhat's facebook a post about their upcoming ATR72-500 for x-plane the renders of which look to be this model, with the paint removed. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.125636584193654.26864.114160422007937&type=1
  17. very nice.
  18. Nice aircraft Awful website - registering was an excercise in 'page not found', redirects to elsewhere and other errors. It be somewhat broken.
  19. There is a setting to switch between manual and automatic tuning. I think it's in the FMC, but check the manual (or wait for a better post to follow - I'm not flying her until the XPUIPC issue is solved)
  20. Ah yes, the lesser known Swedish 'Ort' airfield Good choice there my friend.
  21. or you could get something like a logitech G keyboard or G13 and use the G key macros / assignments - more expensive though and maybe not what you need.
  22. I think it could be possible to transplant the flight model from the c74 piper to replace the flight model from Caranedo - thus getting your best of both worlds plane. I don't play much with planemaker myself, so don't know the details of how it would be done. If you're lucky then a delete, copy paste maybe.
  23. Have you had any chance to make progress on this yet?
