The project is still on. The dev that's making it has had to hold it for the time being. Other things have taken priority in his personal life. I have seen the src files and it's looking very nice.

I thought I might make a post with a little information so you all aren't left in the dark about where we're at. I haven't been able to do so until now because I/we have been very busy with the Saab and other projects. Everything on the Saab is moving forward. I want to make that perfectly clear. Things are moving quickly but at times it can take a while to make the simplest system work like it should. The Saab isn't what it was going to be when we started it. My original plan was to make a turboprop and fill it with generics. It then evolved into something we never even imagined creating. I can't go into the custom systems just yet because there are simply too many to list. And when I say custom systems, I mean custom systems. That brings me to the next item. One of the systems that is requiring a lot of attention is the Autopilot. This is an extremely complex system on the Saab and is taking quite a while to code. Some modes are already armed on start-up by default on the real aircraft and we are doing everything we can to make this simulation almost identical to the real aircraft by coding these systems the same way. The autopilot alone has taken about a month or more to code so far. It is far removed from just tying a generic dataref to a button and exporting it. In saying that, it is very close to 100% complete and should be finished very soon. I cannot give you a date or time period because we just don't know at this point. Could be days, could be weeks. Most likely somewhere in between. As is the case with some developers, when we post nothing, then a lot of something is going on. Cheers Goran

Back in the days, when I had a Pentium 90 with a 1MB Diamond Stealth video card (worth about $700 back then) and 64MB of RAM running Windows 95, the first sim I bought was SU-27 Flanker V1.0. And it was HUGE back then among the fighter aircraft community. We had competitions over our 33.6kbps internet connections. And it was VERY realistic in terms of physics for the time. The memories.... Since then, I've had Jetfighter III Flanker 1.5 Flanker 2.5 F22 Lightning Falcon 4.0 Janes F-22 (what a disappointment that was) then the MSFS series from FS98

You'll find that sometimes (rarely) you may have to delete your preferences if the sim starts doing some odd things. Glad you got it sorted. If you feel like graduating from a twin engine GA to a "meatier" twin, the Saab will be coming very soon.

You can run it but without knowing the Graphics Card specs, it's hard to say. However, with those specs you posted, it's recommended you have a minimum of 512MB of Video RAM. If you have 256MB of Video RAM, you could run the Saab but you will probably have to turn down your settings for better performance. I have pretty much the same setup on Windows 7 with a 1GB graphics card and I'm hitting up to 43fps in the air with settings turned up

Morten, you do realize I'm going to get Theo to seriously scrutinize that texturing. That looks INSANE!
-
Probably not. CPU and Graphics Card won't handle it.

Gizmo!

We're neck deep in Saab development at the moment so everything is on hold until that's out. Once that's done, we only have 1 or 2 animations to do, fix a portion of the 3D mesh on the roof of the cabin and add the flight model. If all goes to plan, the updated version should be out by end of this month or early next month.

Lost hard drive need to download the Duchess again
Goran_M replied to motoadve's topic in General Discussion
Friendly reminder... please post product specific issues in the proper forums. I check my forums very often. So far, I have received no email in my personal inbox. If it is a lost product, you will have to send an email to support@x-aviation.com outlining your problem. A new link will be issued for you to re-download the Duchess. -
There's still a a couple more things to do with coding. I'm still working on procedures but there's not much left to do. Still doing checklists as well. I'm guessing I'll finish the doc's right when the aircraft is finished.
-
No problem, glad you got it sorted. Have fun with it!

Please check your control assignments in the settings. I'm assuming they are set correctly since the yoke is working normally. I just ran a quick test and took some screenshots and all is working normally. If the control assignments are properly assigned, did you do anything at all to the acf file? If so, delete the entire package and re-install. Left Roll Right Roll Pitch Up Pitch Down

You shouldn't have any problems. You're processor is faster than mine and you have more RAM and I'm currently getting 35 to 40 fps everything maxed out.

I've been wanting to put this up for ages. Taken the day Nicolas THOUGHT the CRJ was vaporware

Release candidate means release is very close

This is the exact reason why we have kept delaying it after saying "it'll be ready by the end of the month". We honestly don't want to delay it, but whenever we see something new, we ask whether we can code it. If we can, then we do it. Even the little details that are almost insignificant but add that touch of realism that is noticeable. Case in point, Duchess Transponder light. Believe me when I tell you, we hate delaying this aircraft. But we want to do it right. From the flight model, 3D modelling, texturing, programming and even the documentation (247 pages and counting). I won't list what has been coded yet (believe me, it's a lot) but I will when we finish it. Have we raised the bar? I can safely say, yes. All I'll say is it's not long to go.

Thanks for your contribution, Leen. It'd be great if you did more repaints as I know you're very talented in that area. Maybe even a few for the Saab if you had the time.

I spent 3 days last week doing some serious mesh optimization. On my machine, without Gizmo debugging code built in, I was getting 23-26 fps. After optimization, I am getting an average of 38fps on the ground and 42 fps in the air with all settings maxed out except AA and AF. Those are set at 2x. The system I am doing these tests on is Windows 32bit Dual core E6750 CPU 4GB of RAM 1GB 9800GT Graphics card

The first manual I did, everything was all in the one manual with checklists being separate. The way I'm doing it now is much more organized. Feedback so far has been very favorable. And yes, all the documentation will be in pdf format.

Cameron is doing the coding. And he's doing an amazing job actually. Theo was put back on textures and refining parts of the panel regions and night lighting. We're not sure at this point. I've been banned from x-plane.org and consequently, am unable to download anything from there or even contact anyone. Word from Cameron is "we'll see".

A little bit of coding is left. Maybe a day or 2 worth of work. I'm still doing the manuals. I wasn't happy with the format of the originals so I started them again. But not from scratch. I took all the parts of the original manual and put them into the new format. Still working on charts and different descriptions of the charts and flying conditions (100+ pages...fun reading). I'll be doing another 3 manuals on each area of flying. Takeoff, Cruise and Approach & Landing and then fix up the checklists. All that shouldn't take me more than a couple of days.

I had a great sleep. The date was August 28th, 2010. Granted, I fell asleep at my desk and woke up in bed, but it was a glorious 8 hours in dreamland. Other than that, I don't think so.
-
Absolutely. Too much fun. Look at the smile on my face after making up a Charts and Tables manual with 100+ pages in it. ;D

And guess who's typing them up! :-\
