Thanks Phil. Glad you're enjoying it. Regarding the porpoising, there is a slight issue with the flight model that has been fixed in the interim update instructions I posted. I will be adding it to the new 1.2 update but I made a set of instructions for people to follow in case they couldn't wait. http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=1611.0 Give that a go and let me know how you get on.

Getting some airport objects in the sim
Goran_M replied to He who is not welcome!'s topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Your best bet and easiest method would be to just convert your FS9/FSX scenery to X Plane using FS2XPlane. http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.html It's not perfect and you may need to do some clean up of some stray objects, but these are few and far between. -
Matthew I think discussing any kind of "figures" with anyone is very unprofessional and in very bad taste. ASKING for sales figures is even worse. What's good for one (Android and iphone apps) is not necessarily good for the other (X Plane devs). PMDG are now so revered by the MSFS community that if they decided to develop for FlightGear, everyone would follow them. They could make a flying fridge for x-plane for iphone and sell heaps. There is a LOT more riding on a developers decision on whether or not to migrate from one platform to the other than just sales figures. And even if they want sales figures, they can get them confidentially through some kind of mediation. Please, stop digging. All we ask of people is that they enjoy what we create. I can't speak for devs over at the org, but over here, we're exploiting every single facet of aircraft development to bring some damn realistic stuff. We don't tell everyone everything and there is a reason for that. The CRJ is just the beginning.
-
Wow, umm, ok... The iPhone and Android sales figures have nothing to do with a developers sales figures. You're talking about billion dollar corporations. As an exercise, ask PMDG how many units of the 744 they sold. See what kind of response you get. Then come back and we'll continue.
-
Wow. Now that's overstepping the line. I will say, in the nicest and sincerest way possible, none of your business. It's not my product, but it's a very bad question to ask.
-
I think we're having a problem with your statement that X Plane developers will never create systems simulations that can equal or exceed PMDG's 737. It's like you have condemned us to 2nd place regardless of what tech will eventuate with systems coding. Don't write us off just yet, Matthew. The tools are there for us to exploit. If the IXEG 737 is going to turn out like I think it will, it'll be PMDG who will be saying "DAMN, that's a bloody good add on!" to the IXEG guys.

Which pilots are on the beta team? I don't remember seeing any and I have been following that thread for over a year. We've all seen how easy it is to get Boeing licenses. Ariane 737 for FSX (One of the worst add ons on the market), the orgs Boeing licenses. I refuse to shell out $$$'s for a license. Believe it or not, I also have access to 2 Boeing engineers (both retired) and they are both helping me with the 747-200 AND -400. These engineers have offered up contact details of more Boeing staff should I need them. Matthew, don't get sucked in to the hype. Yes, they are making an exceptional add on, but it is far from impossible to do in x plane. You might be surprised how easy it is to get airline staff to help on a sim add on. PMDG just do an excellent job of letting everyone know about it.

I could always turn to generic 2D Planemaker gauges and finish it a LOT quicker! KIDDING!

Absolutely nothing wrong with a friend helping another friend out. And if you enjoy what you're doing, I wish you the best in the payware world. But, by your own admission, you wanted more exposure. In that sense, maybe it should have been treated as such. Maybe Nicolas should have put VH's "review" in the org newsletter instead of under the review section in the forums. It might not SEEM like a big deal, but if a new customer comes in, reads that review, and buys the A-4 based on it, only to find out it was reviewed by a friend of yours who is also an org moderator like you, it may not go down well. Not just with him, but with many others. Personally, I would refuse any XA moderator or developer to review anything I make. But that's just me. Whether or not you paid him is no ones business except yours. Don't sell yourself short, Ben. I, along with many others, know what you do and the other freeware you have done. I also know about your AC3D animation tutorial. Everyone has to start somewhere. Then please, by all means, start a new thread. I can safely say that Cameron won't object to you (or any other org moderator) shedding some light on the latest events that have transpired. Send an email or PM to Cameron or any other developer that has been banned. I would sure as hell keep my mouth shut if you told me what happened. Let's just keep it civil (unlike another org developer who went completely berserk in another thread without any provocation)
-
Ben, there's no doubt there is significantly worse payware out there. And in saying that, I'm not saying your's is bad by any stretch. Would I pay for it? Probably not. And that is what is so great about today's society. We have a choice. I mentioned before that I don't have it and cannot make any kind of judgement on it except for a visual one. Speaking for myself, (and maybe a few others), it just seems odd and can be perceived as biased that an org moderator reviewed another org moderators product. And as was noted, it doesn't really read like a review. I felt like I was reading a marketing newsletter. Look at avsim reviews. They point out the negatives but they don't try and turn them into positives with some kind of justification. I agree that it's great you are able to come here and address these questions and remarks. It's just a shame that most developers here can't do the same at the org with regards to OUR products. Perhaps, some day, that will change.

Let's not turn this into a bashing thread. NGC, you're comments, although you are free to make them, do very little in the way of positive motivation. If you want to see what goes into this kind of work, have a look at other projects. MU-2...2 years PMDG 744...4-5 years PMDG MD-11...8 years JRollon CRJ...3-4 years JGregory Corvalis...over a year XPJets 777...4 years and counting (I think even more than 4 years so far) Trust me, it's getting there. If it wasn't, my wife would kill me. And no one asks "Is it finished yet?" more than she does.

Giving up? I started this project 18 months ago. I was getting up at 9am and going to sleep at 3am (now I get up at 8am and go to sleep at 3am because I take my daughter to school). 7 days a week. Reading Saab documentation. Downloading photos (Well over a thousand at last count). 3D modelling. Making sure the 3D model was efficient enough for Theo to work with. Theo was still working on textures and panel regions in the middle of a fatal earthquake in New Zealand followed by several thousand aftershocks. To say we are giving up doesn't really motivate us. No...we haven't given up on this project. If Cameron turned around and told me he wasn't interested in selling it, I would sell it on my own. I have invested far too much time in this project to even contemplate giving up. Cameron is doing things with the programming that have never been done before in x plane. Very close to all the systems are getting programmed with Gizmo. In addition to this, Cameron cannot dedicate all his time to the Saab programming as the CRJ was a very big deal to Javier and a HUGE seller. It is now Number 2 on XA's top sellers behind the MU-2 and that has now been selling for over 3 years. Cameron was helping out there with support so he could maintain prompt and efficient customer service. Many times, people have asked me in private how the Saab was coming along and why was it taking this long. I always told them that Cameron is doing the programming but he has his hands well and truly tied with CRJ support atm. It's settled down recently and he is back to programming a lot more on the Saab. Even Ben Russell offered his time on the project to help it get finished sooner. It's hard enough to manage the people that are working with me (5 people have worked on the Saab). It doesn't really help when people think we're giving up. And no, Cameron is not doing the documentation. I am doing it all. The different sections of the doc's are: Intro and Settings Systems Description Charts and Procedures and 2 typed tutorials These are not manuals with about 10 pages each. These are very in depth manuals and have been revised at least 5 times. I hope this answers peoples questions. Forgive me if I come across as harsh but I have a slight fever, sore throat and have just woken up.

Our order of projects as it stands: Saab DC-3 Duchess and Sundowner updates 747-200/400 Hawker 4000 There are reasons for this particular order and it serves as the most efficient with regards to programming, modelling and texturing. For example, the INS for the 747-200 will serve as a starting point for the 747-400 FMC. Then that, and the systems for the -400 will serve as a foundation for the Hawker 4000 FMC and systems. Maybe, if no one else does it, we'll do a Constellation as a side project while the Boeings are being done. The other projects that were included in the poll have not been discounted either. But, we'll take it all 1 step at a time and make sure we don't get lost in the process.

PMDG are just people who have dedicated a large amount of time in refining their craft, marketing, sales strategy, etc... It's kinda funny how some treat them as if they are supernatural and untouchable. Credit where it's due, they have worked extremely hard in producing some excellent models. To answer your question, it's not a question of "IF" we will ever see the x plane equivalent of PMDG...but "WHEN". TBH with you, I think IXEG will be it. And head to head, so far, the IXEG 737 exceeds the PMDG 737. But let's wait and see what the final results will bring.

I paid just over $80 for FSX when it came out. Another $50 for Acceleration Pack. That was about 4 years ago.
-
Hmm, a super connstellation. Same era as the DC-3. Almost identical cockpit gauges. Engineers station. Don't get me started! I got a couple of Boeings to get through. ;D (I can imagine Theo telling me "We have to do a Constellation")
-
What if it's a REALLY well maintained DC-3? http://duggy.com/DUGGY2010/Photos.html And yes, we're making that repaint. Almost a crime if we didn't.
-
Unless it was Austin himself that said it, I wouldn't pay much attention to the numbers being thrown around the org shoutbox. People love to speculate.
-
Yes it will.
-
That's kinda what I wanted to say. Just didn't know how to word it. But hey, if a developer wants to simplify a product, it's less competition for the rest of us that want to make a more complete model.
-
Very unusual review. He seems to contradict himself in certain areas.
-
Thanks fella's Framerates will be pretty good. So far with an unoptimized 3d mesh, I'm getting 60-70 fps on the ground. Of course, that's without the cockpit and textures.
-
Next bunch.

I plan on making a couple of variants. The viewmaster windows look easy enough. Shouldn't be an issue.
