If you'll notice, when I mentioned the electric current, I was talking about an electric current going from the battery to the magnetos, which in turn sends a current to the spark plugs, which in turn is able to ignite the fuel in the combustion chamber. Without an electric current, the engine won't start. The magnetos send a spark (dependent on the piston position) at the correct timing and location of the piston inside the combustion chamber of the engine. "it is able to do a windmilling start as long as there is electrical current going to the magneto's and the mixture is set to rich"

  3. Work is progressing nicely and quickly now. Lukasz has wrapped up the systems code and the flight model. Theo is getting close to finishing the textures, but there is still the night lighting to do. What I have so far animated on the panel and gauges is working very nicely. We're pushing for a late December finish, but it depends on any problems we may find. We're also trying to get the floats version finished at the same time as the wheel version. In the meantime, a couple of screenshots in XP9.
  4. We're not ruling it out, but we're not saying definitely "yes, we'll do a modernized panel". To make a more modernized panel means modelling a new panel from scratch, including overhead, and then re-texturing it, re-animating it, and making new panel regions and manipulators.. Because of the amount of work involved (about 6 weeks worth of full time work), it won't be a free upgrade. However, I don't want to start anything by saying we're thinking of doing it. It's 50/50. We've got quite a few things going on at the moment and a modernized version of the DC-3 panel is somewhere in the middle of our job list...if we decide to go ahead with it. We just want to get this DC-3 done (Floats and Wheels version), wrapped and packaged so we can move onto our next project. If we do a modernized panel, it'll be a side project.

  14. The shadowing, I'm not 100% sure what all the settings represent. I did have a play around with it today and when it was on "overlay" the aircraft had no shadows cast on it. When i had it on 3D aircraft, the different parts of the aircraft were casting shadows on the aircraft itself. As for the rest of the shadow settings, I'm only guessing that they increase quality. ("Melt the GPU" wasn't particularly appealing for me to try). Good luck with it. Let us know how it goes. EDIT: FYI, shaders are the biggest FPS killer. Use them carefully.
  15. Get your updated drivers first. Next, your AA is WAY too high. Turn it down to 2x or 4x Turn off HDR Shadowing can go to 3D aircraft, but you will get better performance leaving it as low as possible. (This allows the aircraft to cast shadows on itself.) Turn your water reflection down to default. Turn off volumetric fog and atmospheric scattering. Turn your clouds down to about 30% THIS should give you good framerates for your system. Then you can start turning things back on until you are happy with the performance.

  18. So you're saying the Saab will take 12 years to finish? I'd prefer to be compared to PMDG. They take 4-8 years to finish an add on.

  21. Everything is still in pieces. The 3D mesh is being textured and Lukasz has managed to run tests and refine the radial engine management using just key and joystick button assignments. In saying that, no one would be able to make sense of what they are seeing in a video anyway. As soon as I get a fully textured cockpit back from Theo, and after I add some of the animations and custom datarefs I get from Lukasz, then we'll see about posting a video. What I have seen so far looks incredible, as far as code and functionality is concerned. Lukasz is very talented...and a little bit crazy for extreme detail. Fortunately, that's a requirement for working with me.
  22. If your computer doesn't start sometimes, then you might have a serious problem with your OS. You may have to run a "repair" on it, or, as I prefer to do, do a clean format and reinstall of your OS.

  24. We're HOPING by Christmas. What you have to understand is that the Saab 340 is a very unique aircraft. Powering it up and turning on the avionics switches (there are 3 separate ones that power individual systems) automatically enables the flight director and arms 2 or 3 autopilot modes which also get annunciated on the EADI. I can't remember what they were because I'm saturated in the DC-3 and it's systems. So that has to be coded, even with the Autopilot OFF. Turning the autopilot ON also turns on the Yaw Dampers. But the Yaw Dampers can stay on with the Autopilot turned off. Activating an autopilot mode doesn't always turn it on. It simply arms it. When it's armed, the EADI annunciator for that mode flashes white for 5 seconds then stops. When it activates, it turns Green. An example of this would be the NAV mode. The NAV mode will arm when the button for it is pressed, but unless you are on an intercept course for the radio beacon, it will stay white and you are still in full control of the aicraft. Once on an intercept course, it then changes to Green and locks on to the radio beacon. This is just a couple of examples of the kind of realism that is getting added. Trust me, there is a LOT more. Never has the term "tip of the iceberg" been more aptly applied. Believe me, we ALL want this one out as quickly as possible, but we want it done right the first time.
  25. Cameron is putting in a lot of coding hours on the Saab. The code has been built up and stripped back a few times making it as efficient and accurate as possible. If you asked me a time frame for when it will be finished, we honestly couldn't tell you. Hopefully, before Christmas.
