    "Linux Desktop" doesn't really mean what it sounds like it means in the context of that sentence, what they mean by it is the "Linux Desktop OS" which is a pretty general term and doesn't necessarily mean the hardware it's intended for is a desktop.

    Yes do make sure it's a 660Ti, also I think upgrading to an Intel i5 4670K instead of a 4440 is worthy of the $40 or so cost difference for the CPU itself. -NR

    The thing with that PC is I dont see a lot of things mentioned that should be, it seems there is no included OS or aftermarket CPU cooler. Also the hardware included seems quite low-spec for what they are charging for it. I also don't know anything about that builder, so I would check around and make sure you do business with a reputable one, which may depend on what country you live in. Also, learning to build your own PC can be very rewarding since you get to choose exactly what parts you want to use, and you can focus your budget on certain areas of the system to optimize it for the tasks you do most. -NR

    Yes Intel/nvidia are very much worth the price. Honestly I can't justify building a system optimized for X-Plane for less than $800, you just wont be happy with it. Really, this is fairly the minimum of what I recommend for X-Plane: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Neil_R/saved/2G2W -NR

    That's why I don't really have a need for them. I like my planes to fly like the real thing. So really, I'm not complaining about Carenado specifically, but more so of the lack of truly excellent GA aircraft for X-Plane, since I use X-Plane for training, this is important to me. -NR

    I do indeed think it will run quite well, I would expect on high-ish settings to get at least 70fps in rural areas and around 25 in super urban areas like Atlanta. I recently upgraded to a GTX 660Ti and though it's a bit slower than the 760 I am quite satisfied, my CPU is now the main bottleneck. -NR

    You entirely missed my point ointment, my comment has nothing to do with price or "control loading". I just want it to fly like the real thing. Let's take the C152 for a simple example: In a real 152, a 3nm descent to final would require 2 notches of flaps and throttle pulled out, creating an appropriate 60KIAS glide. With the Carenado C152, on the same approach with 2 notches of flaps, you will need more than 1500rpm of power in order to maintain 60KIAS. When you look into the issue, Carenado has used the wrong airfoils. Possibly so as to get the cruise speed right, but therefore sacrificing proper performance in other stages of flight. They've applied a band-aid to cover up the problem instead of taking the time to engineer the model to fly properly, as we know is quite possible in X-Plane. With that said, if Carenado made their aircraft to perform very realistically, I would be willing to pay DOUBLE the current prices. -NR

    This *looks* great but Carenados never fly right. Until they get their act together in the flight model department I'm afraid I wont be buying any more of them. Aside from that, they have some of the best looking planes on the market now. If only they offered training level models... -NR

    Looks quite good, but I might opt for a better CPU cooler if you're gonna be doing any overclocking. Get a Noctua (all of them are pretty good, just keep in mind your ram hight and room in the case) if you want air cooling, or for liquid you could get a number of things but the Corsair H60 and H80i are very nice. -NR

    I like your choice of hardware hobofat. Only things I would've changed would be a different brand of motherboard, which is purely a preference thing, different brand case (preference thing), liquid cooling, which could cost more and is not always necessary, and WD Black drives, which wont make much difference to X-Plane besides startup time. Enjoy these new systems guys! Also, if anybody needs advice during the build process I am always willing to help. -NR

    That's certainly the best air-cooler but I've never had a closed loop system leak, haven't even heard of one leaking for quite a long time now. The are extremely reliable these days. Liquid cooling is exponentially more efficient than the best air-cooler, especially for overclocking. -NR

    I would switch out the Noctua cooler for a closed loop liquid cooler such as the Swiftech H220 or Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme, etc especially if you're gonna be doing overclocking.     Congrats on the release guys! If I had time to fly it I would've bought it already! Showed it to an FSX user, he said he might have to get X-Plane just to fly the Saab. -NR

    It's just the most common, there are hundreds of distros out there. Just find the one that's right for you. That happened to be Mint KDE for me. I personally recommend Mint 15 MATE for folks who've used windows. -NR

    This is not true at all. I installed X-Plane 10 as easily as you can for any other OS just a few weeks ago on Linux Mint. Not to mention I did the same thing on Ubuntu about a year ago and had no such issues. What you just said was so bad it's NOT funny. -NR

    Well I'll just say this, I use Linux Mint as my primary OS on all my systems and it is a great platform for gaming, it just needs more titles. If Valve fixes that soon, what he said will be true. Until then, it will still be "all work and no play", but that doesn't mean it's a "dull boy". X-Plane runs quite well on it by the way. -NR
