  2. Hi guys, This week I had a little break between bigger projects. Amazing how this bird could by upgraded. What did I do? Added normalmapping. Increased the textureresolution. Made a new livery. Restyled the entire interior.
  3. File Name: 118527 Jiminy Cricket for the LES DC3 File Submitter: Leen de Jager File Submitted: 20 Sep 2012 File Category: Vintage X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 9 & 10 Livery For: Click Here For Aircraft 118527 Jiminy Cricket This is a livery-paint for the Leading Edge Simulations Douglas DC3/C47. Paint made by Leen "Flybike" de Jager This paint depicts (more or less, within the limitations of the model and its painter) the C47-D ,118527 "Jiminy Cricket " Historical Note: "Jiminy Cricket" is depicted as it flew for the Sicily operation in improvised night camouflage. It was one of the original 52 C-47s that deployed to Egypt with the 316thTCG in December 1942. "Jiminy Cricket" was one of the first from the 316th Sq. ATC, to visit Project 19, delivering worn out parts and returning rebuilt engines to the RAF. It eventually took part in the invasion of Sicily, where, the pilot, Sgt. George Quisenberry received wounds from German FLAK. The shell destroyed the nose of the Aircraft, knocking out all instruments except the stand by compass. Jiminy carried the crew back with nothing but the moon and the sticking standby compass. Jiminy Cricket was repaired and served through May 1, 1947, then was "salvaged" The skin-set includes cockpit- and (freighter-) cabin textures as well. Passenger-seats, luggage-racks ,airco etc.removed from the plane.( its a freighter now !!) Livery dedicated panel and cockpit colors How to install: Just unzip118527JiminyCricket.zip into a temp. folder , and start reading the readme file. 5. Forgive me for giving some thoughts. When opening the download I find a file named Fusewhole.xcf. This is a Gimp file ( wich is approx 5Mb , wich is 50% of the total of the download ) ,this file however has no function in X-Plane.( is only for painters`s use) Opening this file I see the layer for the underside of the fuselage NOT been set to multiply wich results in details on that part of the fuse being not visible. As you saved the Fusewhole.png from this file, the png is also missing those details. Just a mistake. I am not talking about quality of the painting ( I perefer not to comment on graphic-quality unless I am explicit asked to ) , I am just talking about the techniques used and some special items which need attention. Another thing what got my eye is the fact that this livery ( as well as some other liveries you made) is missing things like registrationmarks and national flags on the fuselage. These are very simple to make ,most fonts are available on the internet and flags give no problem either. With flags ,keep in mind ,on allmost all aircraft ,the pole-side of the flag is positioned towards the cockpit. Wich, simply said, means, almost always the flag needs a horizontal flip when placed on the right side of the aircraft.( needs to be checked every livery ). This rule many times also applies for signs , heraldic shields , and animals ( birds prefer flying forwards). Regards Leen

Suitable for those who really want to fly the plane on one of its last trips or experiece some real risky smuggling-adventures in an airplane wich is.................................you know. Or better said flying an old bird.................to its restoration. This panel comes with dark-grey upholstery and floor. If you want to use the old panel in a livery having another colored upholstery and floor just remove the file named InnerWall.png from this download ( leave InnerWall_NML.png were it is.) How to implement? Just unzip the contents of this zip file into the objects-folder of the livery you want to get the old panel.. Make a backup/copy from this livery first , you might not dare to fly my panel.....it does not look so trustworthy. 12. For making bolts and rivets showing in a paint ,use a layered texturefile. When you have a white plane just showing rivets and lines, open that file in a program like Photoshop (pay) or Gimp(free) Go to the checkbox "layers" and add a layer. Paint on this layer the colors you want. NOW all rivets and lines are invisible BUT if you go to the "layer-properties" and set this layer in the "multiply" mode all rivets and lines will show up again , but now in the color of your choice. This is the way it has to be done. There are more "layer-properties" than multiply alone with all sorts of effects , just take multiply for a start. Search for some tutorials on the internet about "painting with layers" there are dozens of them. Cheers Leen de Jager

Working the way you did , produces shabby white rivets on a blue painted fuselage , while a blue fuselage simply has blue rivets. 14. Just open the obj file with a text editor like Wordpad for Windows or its Mac equivalent. Making a backup of the file first, might be not a bad idea.

Paint made by Leen "Flybike" de Jager Photo-research and "mental coaching" by Harvey Stein Thanks Harvey ,for encouraging me to lay my hands on this fabulous Douglas Sleeper Traveller !!!! This paint depicts (more or less, within the limitations of the model) the DST , Douglas Sleeper Traveller , wich was in fact an enlarged version of the DC2 , made by Douglas on request by American Airlines. ( round 1935 ) After a production of about seven DST`s the plane was rebaptised and became the name Douglas Commercial nr 3 , the DC3 was born and a new era in aviation started. So we can say, this is a kinda "Mama-Dakota" The original model had wing-registration , due to the limitations of the texture-mapping of this model , this could not be reproduced. ( grrrrrrrrr..........!!) The skin-set includes cockpit and cabin textures as well. New features : Main wingfairing more visible ( texture and normals) , new right-side passengers-door AND sleper-windows. 17. Just a complicated paint for the LES DC3. This paintjob goes further than the average paintjob.
  18. Just an update.
  19. Hi folks, Still working on the mama-plane. Its complicated but there is some progress. Tail section and texturising wing/fuse joint still to do. These old things are tricky. Just to keep you posted. Have a peep. Cheers Leen
  20. Thanks for your kind words , I start blushing. Airborne Imaging was US based Braniff was, Quetzecoatl was Virgin Islands was Now I am working on the mother of all DC3`s the "DST" Douglas Sleeper Traveller ( wich was re-batptised to DC3 later on) flown by American Airlines. That makes five out of ten ( or eleven ) being representing the US. Not bad for an European based texture-artist isn`t it? Cheers Leen
  21. Thanks Cameron. This is still WIP , at a distance it looks nice on a screenshot , we canot go with our nose between the pixels yet. I think it needs a week or so, to to get it up to my standard. I am still missing vital details , due to lack of photo-material. I welcome ALL DST-pictures available!!!! Cheers Leen
  22. In 1935 American Airlines director C R Smith asks Douglas to build a plane bigger and better than the DC2. The result is the DST Douglas Sleeper Traveller having fourteen beds. After having build seven DST`s , they created based on this airplane a "Dayplane " for twenty-four passengers and this plane.......became the name Douglas Commercial 3rd model. The DC3 was born. Here my impression of the mama-bird ,the DST.

Paint made by Leen "Flybike" de Jager This paint depicts (more or less) the DC3/C47, FZ658, Royal Newfoundland Air Force. Mind the strange "roundel" on the fuselage, this was a political protest on an air-force plane, and caused some fuzz in 1948/9 The original model had wing-registration, due to the limitations of the texture-mapping of this model, this could not be reproduced. ( grrrrrrrrr..........!!) The skin-set includes cockpit and cabin textures as well. Pay attention to the difference between the day and night-cabin-textures. How to install: Just unzip FZ658_Newfoundland.zip into a temp. folder, and start reading the readme file This livery comes without pilots. If you prefer to have the little guys at the yokes, just remove the pilot.png file from the FZ658_Newfoundland/objects - folder Have fun - Leen "Flybike" de Jager http://www.flybike-paints.nl Click here to download this file
