What would you expect from payware scenery?
flyinhawaiian replied to OlaHaldor's topic in General Discussion
Well for me, I don't necessarily want or need all the buildings (unless they're significant landmarks) to be EXACTLY how they are in real life, but the airport layout needs to have the same feel and familiarity as the real thing. Further, modeling two options, one for high-end systems, and one for medium systems (like mine) would be nice so we can still have custom scenery, but not take a MASSIVE frame-rate loss. The KIAD scenery crashes my game once in a while, for example. It looks great, but is too complicated to work well on my system. 2.4GHz i5 Intel Macbook Pro, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 330M 256MB VRAM -

Yeah... the NW livery will always be one of my favorites on that bird. A close second is the pre-Continental UA scheme, though. Love the blues for some reason -

Soooo... April 5 Preview of the day? ;D And here's a little present for you all as incentive... Took this back in college: -
Went from LAS to LAX (via VATSIM) this evening in C47's PA46-500TP (Mirage). Beautiful flight, especially since I had my iPad hooked up with AirTrack the whole way. Brought a whole new sense of realism and situational awareness to X-plane... Freakin rocked!!!

Here's a couple new ones with some extra post processing done:

Holy pissing contest batman! I just like it cause it sounds purdy

Actually, the demos are only flown by designated pilots on a 2-year tour from the 1st FW, Langely, AFB. First was Paul "Max" Moga, then David "Zeke" Skalicky. The backup bird was new-guy Henry "Schadow" Schantz's ride down to KLAL (Tail Code 'FF'), but they used the primary ship from nearby Tyndall. A definite pro, as would anyone at the stick of the F-22 would be, but the demo pilots are hand-selected and the ONLY guys to fly the airshow circuit!

Actually, even bigger props to him, as on Saturday he had a hydraulic failure and had to make an emergency landing. I kept my camera on him the whole time, in case I was able to witness a $250mil ejection/fireball, but luckily (and thankfully) he got it back on the deck without incident!

Anyone using the iPad as an EFIS?
flyinhawaiian replied to flyinhawaiian's topic in General Discussion
Okay, now we're running into the limits of my computer knowledge. How pre-tel do I connect my iPad to my computer. I am running the internet off a wireless router and have no way of getting a hard-line to the laptop. Halp? Nevermind! Search function on the forums is awesome! This app is sweeeet!! -
Anyone using the iPad as an EFIS?

Just bought AirTrack! Thanks for the suggestion guys! -
Well thank you guys, I appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I love my camera and lenses, but something with a nicer sensor and sharper glass would be awesome! Just always looking for improvement. @Simon - I have a bunch more F-22 shots in flight on my Flickr page, feel free to take a look. Its a truly awesome airplane! The heritage flights are definitely a favorite of mine too. The comparison of the fighters from THEN to the fighters of now is always amazing. Here's a shot from an airshow back home which I personally LOVE: 100 internet points to you!! It definitely threw me for a loop at first, seeing its as heavily modified as it is. Very nice to look at, and probably a BLAST to fly!

Thank you! I have an older Canon Digital Rebel XTi and was using a 55-250mm IS lens with a circular polarizer filter on it. I'd love to upgrade my equipment one day, but with the cost of my collective hobbies, I just need to make due with what I have!

Hey guys, I know I'm new here, so I apologize for spamming the forum with my photos so soon. Anyways, I fancy myself a bit of a photographer and shot a couple snaps at this years Sun n' Fun air show and fly-in. Hope you enjoy! Saab 340 Previews of the Day - April 3, 2011
flyinhawaiian replied to Cameron's topic in Old Saab 340
I have no doubt those of us who are instrument/commercial level pilots are REALLY going to enjoy this. Thank you for keeping it REAL, and not giving us all the cheater equipment! Looks amazing! -
Has anyone tried to tie X-plane and the ipad together as an EFIS or at least a moving map? I see there is an APP via iTunes to link the two, and it looks pretty sweet, but I was wondering if it actually worked, and how well? Also, do developers on here (I'm looking at you LES with the S340) plan on allowing the iPad interface, through this app, to link to the FMS and autopilot systems? Just looking for reviews/data before I commit the $20 for the app. Thanks, Jeff

Lack of Corporate Aviation in X-Plane
flyinhawaiian replied to flyinhawaiian's topic in General Discussion
A Jetstar would be orgasmic!!! I absolutely love those planes! On the other hand, something as "simple" as a Citation would be a good thing to have in the sim as well. Considering its one of the most successful and popular biz-jet series in the world, it's not one to be overlooked! -

That'll be a NOTAM check to see what the procedures are for how to get in and out, but the website just announced this: Try this for information: http://www.sun-n-fun.org/FlyIn.aspx Not sure they're gonna like TnG's with the load of traffic they'll have, but if the mood strike, you can come pick me up in Vero Beach!

This one without the music was a bit better, IMO

Are you planning on attending the night show? I should be arriving sometime around 4pm. Gotta get out of ground school, change, grab my bag and head on across the state... Too bad I'm not flying there!

Lack of Corporate Aviation in X-Plane
flyinhawaiian replied to flyinhawaiian's topic in General Discussion
I totally understand, but without the voices calling for the product, how would you and the other awesome developers know what we (the consumer) want. -BTW, I can't wait for the MU-2 update to be released, definitely a purchase on my horizon! -
I find it a little sad at the lack of quality corporate aircraft available for purchase in X-Plane. While I'm training in smaller GA piston aircraft, I am quickly approaching the time where I will be transitioning into the smaller jet/turboprop classes of aircraft, namely Citations, Lears and King Airs. I know there are a few options out there, but I am looking for a model that has custom everything, to allow that real SIMULATION feel. No pre-fab gauges or systems and a well-modeled 3d cockpit for that extra realism. The exterior doesn't do too much for me, as I spend most of my time INSIDE the airplane. The recent release of XPFR's B-17 has shown that it can be done, but application to other, faster, and more practical aircraft would be nice. I plan on purchasing the upcoming SAAB 340 when it comes out, as this will be the closest to what I am looking for, that is available now. Does anyone know of other options that I am missing, or are there plans from the developers here to meet this vacancy in the market? Thanks in advance! -Jeff
