  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMyn51Kj7Yk This was flown on PilotEdge with ATC, but the video was captured from a replay rather than the live flight, so there's no ATC in the video. You can hear the audio for this flight here, though: http://assets.pilotedge.net/recordings/hourly/2013-8-31_22_17510.mp3, the emergency is declared at around 4mins 50secs into that recording.
  2. Disregard, I see the list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_340#Civil_operators. Plenty of US carriers in the 'former operators' section.
  3. Congrats to the team, I'm excited to see it and put it through its paces with PilotEdge and FSEconomy, too. There's a 340 up at KWVI and KSAC, I should be able to liberate one of those and do some SFO - LAX runs, then some hops within SoCal. Are there any US carriers still operating the 340?
  4. Good news, I came up with an approach this morning to implement a 64-bit Mac plugin while still using the 32-bit library, removing the need to have the entire userbase upgrade to a new version of the voice library. I should be able to start on this in about 2 weeks from now.
  5. Recorded 3 videos: - PORTE5 dep out of SFO - CHANL1 dep out of SNA - PEBLE4 out of SAN (hand flown with flight director on) Will create a new topic when they're edited and posted on YT.
  6. Cleared off a bunch of HD space to make room for this and tested the video recording setup last night, all good to go (it's been a while since I've recorded one). So, this should be happening soon. Flight planning is covered in the workshops that I've already done...perf charts I can't share because I have a set of real charts from an active duty CRJ pilot that I can't share, and I just don't think ppl care that much about the weather (correct me if I'm wrong) I suppose I could do something showing the flow of opening the charts, but believe it or not, my vid capture rig can only capture OpenGL applications, not the whole desktop, so I'm not sure that's going to happen soon. For now the video will only cover the specifics of how to fly SIDs using a blend of raw data for the first portion and the transition to FMS, along with how to manage the climb along the way, the acceleration from 250kias to 290kias at 10k without leveling off, etc. Thanks for the encouragement, though! I wish I could've done this sooner, but we're also working on a new VFR training program for PilotEdge with 11 VFR flights (expanding from the 3 flights in the current program), so there's a lot going on!
  7. I have seen exactly the opposite...unable to fly certain victor airways because I can't receive the required navaid, even when well above the MVA. PGY and MQO VORs are notorious for this in Socal on xplane.
  8. haven't seen a realistic depiction of rain on the windshield when the plane is in flight before, this should be interesting if you've put some time into it!
  9. Very much looking forward to this as well, will be interesting to compare it to the JS32.
  10. Added SFO-SAN from a flight tonight.
  11. ONT-LAS SFO-NYL SFO-LAX Added 8/10: (SFO-SAN) (sunset departure, night arrival)
  12. I find myself missing this plane when I'm away from it for more than a day now. I'm going to clear some space on the hard drive and record a tutorial of how to fly the PORTE4 departure with raw data until PORTE, then FMS from there to LAX for the ILS 24R. It's a fun flight.
  13. As of yesterday, we have decided to make this coverage permanent.
  14. Thank you, I wondered what those @'s were.
  15. I see these in the nav db, just curious if the FMS honors the concept of fly-over vs fly-by waypoints?
  16. My wife actually came running over to me to ask "what's wrong?!" when I got the email regarding the CRJ-200 update. She thought I was going to keel over. Very excited about this. PilotEdge now supports SFO, so I'm going to try a SAN to SFO run right now and stretch the CRJ's legs a bit more than I have in the past! Thanks for getting this update done, guys. It's greatly appreciated.
  17. Starting Jul 17, San Francisco International Airport (KSFO) will be added as a supported airport on PilotEdge. This will be supported for at least the next 4 weeks, after which an announcement will be made regarding its operation. Limitations: The support for SFO includes the approach and enroute facilities required for flights to and from the existing coverage area (LAX, LAS, etc). It does not include any other airports in the Oakland Center area. Flights can be conducted from any airport within ZLA to/from SFO. Clearances will not be issued from SFO to airports outside of the ZLA coverage area (SEA, SLC, PHX, etc). Controllers have been specifically trained in the operation of SFO, and the SIDs/STARs associated with operations to/from ZLA, but nothing more. Why SFO? 1) one of our commercial customers has an operational requirement to utilize SFO. 2) we have been wanting to add support for at least one airport outside of the existing coverage area to allow for longer distance flights by existing customers, particularly those who operate transport category aircraft such as the Boeing 737. SFO is an extremely popular airport among simulator enthusiasts and Virtual Airline pilots. Support for SFO allows for legs such as SFO-LAX, SFO-SAN, SFO-LAS, SFO-LGB, SFO-SNA, SFO-ONT and more, along with the reverse legs. Why just SFO and not the rest of Norcal? We wanted to add this support without causing undue burden on existing controllers, or adding the need for additional staffing. The compromise was to select just one airport to facilitate longer distance flights, rather than opening an entire facility. How will this work? How will the recordings work? SFO, the relevant Norcal Approach sectors, and the relevant Oakland Center sectors will typically covered by the same person working the Los Angeles Center position, expect on specific occasions where additional staffing is provided. For the most part, all interactions involving SFO will be contained within the ZLA Radar recordings. What are the operating hours for SFO? Same as the core network hours, 8am-11pm PDT.
  18. On Jul 17, we'll be adding SFO to the list of supported airports on PilotEdge. For those that enjoy 60-90 min flights in turbojet aircraft, this means that SFO-LAS, SFO-LAX, SFO-SAN, SFO-SNA, SFO-LGB, SFO-ONT, and SFO-SBA flights (including the return trips), are now possible with full ATC coverage. This support will be in place for at least the next 4 weeks. We'll post an announcement regarding the status towards the end of the test period. More detai is available here: http://forums.pilotedge.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3139
  19. Horani, My last post said that we'll be switching in the 'coming months'. It's not that it will take months to build the 64-bit version, but I need quite a bit of time to coordinate the swap to the new version of the third party library with all of the customers. The commercial operators need time to schedule the upgrade. We'll see how this test goes in Europe. I can't comment on Australia without knowing about the potential market size there. If you have any indication of the number of potential users there, it would be good data to have.
  20. Huge FSE fan. Conducting FSE flights with online ATC is a combination that's hard to beat. Since I pay for the operating costs on my real airplane, I enjoy using the cost saving techniques that I apply there to FSE, too. For example, I pickup my clearances with ATC with the avionics on but the engines off to minimize my engine run times. I lean as much as real world operations allow, etc. FSE is a great scenario generator, too, dragging me between city pairs that wouldn't immediately leap to mind. I fly with real weather and generally the real time of day to maximize the variety of situations that I'll encounter. Good times. Highly recommend FSE for those that are considering it.
  21. It's early days, but we are looking into a presence in Europe with PE, as a test if nothing else. Also, regarding 64-bit, I have exhausted all options regarding the use of the current library, there isn't isn't a 64-bit Mac build available and the developers are unable to make one for us. So, we are committed to moving to the latest production release of the voice library in the coming months, which will allow us to move to 64-bit on Mac (right now it's only available for WIndows because they did have 64-bit build of the Windows lib for the version we're using). I'll post updates about both the European presence and the 64-bit situation as they develop.
  22. *crosses legs* don't ask me to get up. I need a few minutes.
  23. Oh my goodness. A nicely modeled bizjet with steam gauges. That's some high end aircraft porn right there. I'm in!
  24. I use DXTory (a utility from Japan) to do lossless 1080p video capture (9GB/min), then edit in Sony Vegas Studio.
  25. I wasn't expecting them to be functional, don't worry, was just curious if the amp labels were accurate on each breaker. Good news, I heard back from a JS32 pilot that I hunted down on YouTube And then this correction Acutally I messed up a bit. Normal is more around 70 and goes up to 95 when windshield heat is cycling on. the other figures where with other systems on. So, it sounds like a base load of 70 per side is about right.
