Lol, Wynthorpe, c'mon! Let's play fair like developers and exchange experiences! ;D Capnsully-Simon W, I think that's what some of the big difference is between payware and freeware. Textures takes a lot of time, and often I see scenery with so little attention to how the textures are done. I myself am not a fan of scenery where the buildings are only a box or VERY primitive shapes with photos on it. It looks blurry and lifeless. But the fact that it's blurry can on the other hand be the resolution limit of 2048^2, which I wish I could double, in order to get the detail I want for the largest hangars.

San Francisco High Resolution scenery - Night Textures
OlaHaldor replied to RealScenery's topic in Northern California
Very, very, very nice! ;D -
Built another hangar and smaller structures today. These belong to the fire and rescue dept. at the airfield. Texture for the hangar is the same as the Inaer hangars. I still lack to add the entrance which is on the same side as the house and container. But because of the image material I got, it's not going to be accurate. Alex took the photos, but couldn't get any good angles of it due to trees in the way. We'll see what I'm gonna do about it. The house is plain white with a few windows and a door. Total polycount for these are 370 As for the Tropico based terminal and tower, I have somehow lost it during christmas. I have no idea where that model file went.

Here's the items for the playground. The textures are not final, just basic colors to give an idea of what they look like IRL. Also, I see now that I lack a tiny detail on the swing set, since this is low poly all the way, I can afford to add 20 more polygons for the detail.

Made some progress today while at work. I made a couple of swings and a trampoline for the playground in front of the restaurant. No screenshot at this time.

Salamanca Matacan for X-plane 9.41 ready for download
OlaHaldor replied to Japo32's topic in Scenery Development
Interesting! I'll take a look at it when I'm home from work tomorrow. -
Well, this is just that - a rendered sequence. Pre-rendered. Not in-game. Reflections, and some times transparency too (depending on application and settings) is rendered using "ray tracing". I know nVidia has done some testing with ray traced rendering in-game. I don't know how the performance is, but it depends on one very negative thing regarding XP. It requires DirectX. XP uses OpenGL in order to power all platforms it supports.. However, it MAY be possible to implement general reflection maps. I use LightWave 3D for my work, and there we have a flag for showing multiple layers of texture, including reflection maps. GLSL. Takes some time to load, but it's at least a possibility. If only they could take a look at that in XP10. No matter what the future holds, GT5 and the Koenigsegg looks good.

He may say whatever he wants, but the value of this plane is not just for anyone but himself and the original modeler. Since he bought this from someone, he might just have gone to TurboSquid or 3d02 and bought an existing model, meant for production (TV, film, pre-rendered cut-scenes for games). Look at the amount of triangles! Is that REALLY necessary?

I only fly in Norway (except from a few trips now and then from the scenery I'm developing, LEMU in Spain) and then I just fly VFR. Doesn't matter what size the aircraft is - VFR is the way I go. I'm not a hardcore simmer - I just enjoy the view. This means, I only fly propeller planes, with either one or two engines. But the CRJ and Hawker might change my way of utilizing XP

How Long Do you Spend Developing (Developers)
OlaHaldor replied to -TheoGregory's topic in General Discussion
Longest session was for one of the large hangars on the LEMU scenery. I spent about 12-16 hours in one go, only with breaks for food, tea and peewee. But dang, I'm happy with the outcome though. -
I must admit, I have been interested in those Airbus addons. But the lack of a kick ass nice virtual cockpit has made me save my money. And then finally, the MU-2 came along, and I went nuts about it. It sets the standard for what addons should be for XP, and is what MSFS users had all along since MSFS2004. I took a quick look at the A380 wireframe render. Wow.. What a bunch of wasted polygons. If at least a third of those polygons had been placed in the cockpit, I'd jump on it instantly. I might be picky, but for what the externals are worth, I really miss some details. It's so flat and dull.. It's something I'd suspect from a freeware addon. A payware addon should have a good external texture. Panels, rivets, it should look like it's been used at least a little, exhaust, dirt and oil.. You name it! Am I the only one wanting such details? Might be my crazy need for fantastic visuals. To say it in another term: if I were to make a video for a fantastic helicopter or plane, I would refuse to do it if it looks like shit.

Hey, thanks for your interest in LEMU. I'm no where near finished. I still have a few hangars to model, and then I'm off to model oil barrels, containers and boxes etc. Things take time. With work on the side I have enough to think about. But I hope things will settle down a little so I can get around and complete it asap and get started on something huge. I've had some contact with Cameron, and when this one goes gold, I'm certain it will be sold through X-aviation.
-
Oooooh can it be torque, oil pressure etc?
-
Is it possible to use animated textures in X-Plane? If so, I'd suggest you do that for the rain effects.
-
Hahaa! Hope you won't grow too old to finish it properly. ;D

Stunning, Goran !!! How is time calculated on your planet? I would've been pushing points for weeks to make this.
-
That's odd. I'll use "Insert Attachment" then. See if it works now.
-
I'm no fan of Blender, but I have to use it in order to export from LightWave to X-Plane. For me, the new interface looks better, and is easier to navigate through. And I can see why newbies want to get into it now that the UI has been worked on.
-
Ok, I got about one or two hours of spare time at work, so I figured I'd fine tune some details on one of the hangars, and I created this shed which is located near the parking lot. It might not look so clean in regards of polygon placement. The real deal in Spain is banged up, dents, some rust and loads of stuff implying it's been there for years. I wanted to add that to the model. I'm looking forward to how it will look in X-Plane.

Ok, been a long time since I've done anything on LEMU. In fact, been a long time since could do what I wanted to, regarding 3D. Work has taken load of time this fall, and when I come home after work, I'm so exhausted and disgusted by the thought of 3D that I've just let it go. I was playing Tropico 3 today, and I like the airport design there, so I opened LightWave for the first time in a while with a real goal. So I started fiddling around and made the airport from Tropcio, with some small modifications. would be fun to use it in XP somewhere. Anyway - I've made great progress with my skills and insight of LightWave and the tools in LWCAD just by doing this small airport terminal which I think will become valuable for future projects.

When I first bought X-Plane about this time a year ago, I paid the .org a visit. Yup. First thing I saw was a "best of", and frankly, it scared the crap out of me. "Really? Is it THAT bad?" I started searching all over YouTube to see if I could find videos that would prove that website wrong, not knowing that the .org was THE site for all X-Plane related stuff. Luckily, I found dozens of videos showing silk smooth landings, and I bought the damn thing faster than I could spell "your credit card just got raped". Shortly after, a friend of me pointed me to your WIP thread for the MU-2, and I felt VERY happy about the whole project, and I bet I could probably paid for a pre-purchase if I had the option. Frankly, I think the .org is kind of embarrassing. Not only the "best of", but also its looks. But that's another story.. Tom, you're by far one of the best out there. I still enjoy your MU-2, and I'm looking forward to your other projects. If I really cared about .org, I'd vote for you. "It's not you. It's me"!

Northern California - Large Airports
OlaHaldor replied to RealScenery's topic in Northern California
Now THAT looks incredibly nice! Wish I had resources like that and photos to get on going with modeling the architecture... : -
http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/modernplanes/modern-e/26484/view/embraer_195/ Make an account to get the image in SUPERSIZE. It's not perfect, but you'll get a nice outline shape of it.
-
Your quality of modeling makes me sick. It's too good!!

As I've said earlier, this looks really, really nice! I love your work, Goran!
