@woweezowee: We are quite possibly the earliest of the early adapters, and consistently try get first looks out on almost all of the major payware ACF within hours of release, and we typically pay for the products we review. Our only caveat: we aren't millionaires and are sometimes limited by what we can afford, so there are necessarily a few ACF we'll take a pass on. We took a stand on this ACF as the 50 dollar price was, in our opinion, out of line. We didn't do this out of malice or a lack of respect for these or any other developers, we did so out of concern for our readers. Beyond this issue, our first look was simply that, and this was made possible by Jack and Joe's generous gratis copy. But a freebie does not mean we're not going to talk about our concerns. If anyone expects that kind of response from us they're seriously mistaken. This post was not a fully realized review of the ACF, but rather, as the title clearly states, a quick look around the file. This post in no way represents the final word on the Q and was a means to get real, in-SIM imagery out to our readers with as little editorializing as possible attached. We included our first impressions as a means to convey what impressed us, and those items that concerned us. We are utilizing the talents of several new people to write reviews, and it's quite possible one of our new reporters will write the final review of the Q at some point @kesomir: I understand your concerns about comparing the Q and the ERJ, but it is one of only a handful of ACF that you can validly draw comparisons to - currently - but our intent was not to strictly compare, but to provide a frame of reference. Sorry for the confusion. C

Congratulations to you all. Beautiful work, and it appears to exceed all our hopes for this bird. Chip

I'm running the ipad v1 & v2 now, flanking the main screen and running efis app and airtrack simultaneously, but can switch over on the v2 and pull up charts or OPS manuals on the fly. Nice, but my take on the 2 is that it isn't much faster and the graphics aren't that much better to justify replacing a v1. It is lighter but the rounded edge is harder to keep a good hold on. There are no accessories available for it yet either; no dock so it's tethered and resides in The Compass holder. If v3 is indeed coming in the fall, wait for that one unless you really want two screens. If you can find a new v1 at a good price? Not a bad option right now for dual screen use. My two cents anyway...

Also note, new plug-in now available here: http://air.ipobjects.com/downloads Delete previous before installing the new one.

Version 2.2 released early this morning. Try this and see if you still have the issue. See here for new feature set: http://air.ipobjects.com/products/airtrack Chip

I need the practice, so let me know what I can do... You can see some of the stuff I do for Simon here: http://xp10designgroup.wordpress.com/ If you like, give me an idea of what you need!

I think I mentioned in the most recent update about AT posted at the blog that the next revision is reported to have the ability to handle SID/STARS and holding patterns. It's by far the most utilitarian iPad App for XP. Fair price, great tech support, and the plug-in appears bulletproof. Never had a crash.

Just FYI, Vic Kabernique was reportedly working on the C27J. He did the Avanti Alterna revision at the org and has a good working knowledge of turbo-props. He started on the Spartan last Spring.

The Beech Travel Air would let you re-use the Mentor's tail! Call it a Baby Baron. However, I think what X-Plane really needs is a very good A4-M Skyhawk (preferably the -T or two seat variant) or A6-E Intruder. Squadron: VA-165. AC#: 505.

YYZ: I couldn't agree more. So many 2D cockpits open up with, or so it seems, the panel cut off in mid-arti-horizon & with no way to read needed flight data without panning down, and that's why the x737 works so well for a 2D panel (at least for me), and why Peter's A-380 remains a favorite (indeed, all his Airbus models are just excellent). Even the "new" F27 has the dreaded bifurcated 2D panel however. I flew Tom's MU-2 forever in 2D mode just for the reasons you mention, too. Too busy to fiddle with mouse movements. Maybe something like velocity sensitive panning while in 3D mode would help...slow mouse movements might produce very little panning while quicker movements might jump you around further. Who knows, but the current system has real limitations. Simon uses the TrackIR system, which seems ideal in some respects (ignoring its not Mac compatible!), but manipulator use in 3D sometimes drives me batty, too. Well, I may have to buy the Avro just to see what all the fuss is about! Later C

Think this will work: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=11933 We've got a short review of the F27 posted as well.

YYZ: with all due respect please re-read the sentence in question. I used "updated panel", not 3D, but again, from what little I've seen of the file since it went payware I'm just not sure it would be a high priority purchase for me. I liked the old version(s) just fine and still enjoy them "as is". Curious, though, that the next version of the x737 will be 3D. Do you feel that will detract from the file? Or that XPJ should make their new 777 with a 2D cockpit? Good luck with school, by the way. Lot of long nights ahead studying.

The "new" Fokker F27 freeware at the ORG is a worthwhile effort to check out this weekend too, but I'd have to concur: if you want a "new" file try the 152. Of course, keep some room in the budget for the Saab and, presumably, the CRJ too, and maybe some new California ortho-sceneries!? Anyway... I haven't seen enough in the way of cockpit improvement to justify the Avro yet. Just my opinion, but when a designer puts his or her development efforts into a 3D exterior at the expense of an updated panel I kind of feel priorities have been confused. The freeware Avro was good enough for what it was in that respect, but why pay for a freeware panel? The x737 took this route, but then again... it's still free.

Cameron, how much of the surrounding area is included? Just the city proper, or does it extend out a good way? Is there a map of the coverage, and a list of airports covered in the scenery available yet? Cw

Steven, I appreciate your comments, and am hopeful the review will prove helpful to the community. Goran and Theo have produced a milestone aircraft with this acf, so writing this review was easy. She really is one sweet handling little bird, and as Simon has pointed out, she feels great on final approach. Anyway. Steve, many thanks. Cw
