Oliver Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Agreed! I hate sketchup when it comes to texturing! And thank you Simon! Quote
Simmo W Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 So Theo, do u know what AC3D is like compared to Blender? it appeals to me' as a next step, or do u reckon I'm better off learning the Beast?! I can only do it once a week, so am happy to trade off hyper accuracy/complexity for faster work. I've read Sergio uses AC3. Enjoy today! Quote
Kesomir Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I believe that AC3D doesn't do render baking, but that you can export animations without the issues you have from blender. Quote
WombatBoy Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 As of a few days ago it does Just waiting for the X-Plane plugin to work with the newest version. Quote
Oliver Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Had a fun little fly in, wasn't populated but it was fun, then flew to the Grand Canyon with Lis from KMPI, scubajuan joined us for part of the way! Next week = Aussie fly in! And the week after = Heli Fly in! Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Aussie Fly In YAY! All of us Auszzies missed out due to time difference. Quote
-TheoGregory Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Yeah i'll come to a Aussie fly-in. Was too tired at 2 o'clock in the morning. And Simon, Learn Blender. Its confusing at first but once you get your head around it its all keyboard short cuts Quote
Oliver Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Yup! I'll be up in the wee hours of the morning but at least you guys will be up at a normal time ;D Quote
Oliver Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 I'll post a few pics tonight or tomorrow! Quote
Simmo W Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Just what did you guys get up to? I work hard, cleaning the clubhouse, and this is the thanks I get? Quote
Simmo W Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Oh my dear God, now I walked back to the terminal and this is what I see! Oliver, you have some explaining to do!The Sundowner already had that 'lived in' look. Now I'm glad I can't open the doors, the smell coming from there is not Sunny at allFun learning Photoshop and applying textures across cylinders in sketchup ;D Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 The good old Victoria bitter. Simon do you work? I could never find the time to do the things you do. Quote
Simmo W Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 hehe, yes unfortunately I do have a day/night job! Interferes with the important stuff. I'm lucky to pack alot into one weekend sometimes. Quote
Oliver Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 HAHAHAHAHAH Simon that's so awesome! Sorry! We'll clean up after ourselves next time ;D Quote
Warmbrak Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Simon, glad to see you moved that bin from the taxiway intersection with runway 26 - I almost clipped a wing on that thing when I was looking for parking on Sunday Speaking about obstacles adjacent to the taxiways at KMPI... Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 SimonSeriously mate learn blender, mix it together with sketchup and you could be a full payware scenery designer with oliver. I would already pay good money for KMPI and thats just in sketchup.Andy Quote
Simmo W Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 SimonSeriously mate learn blender, mix it together with sketchup and you could be a full payware scenery designer with oliver. I would already pay good money for KMPI and thats just in sketchup.AndyThanks Andy! Best compliment that. I've only been trying scenery work for just over one month, learning so much every day. even today I've experimented more to perfect the night look, it should pay off I hope.I can't take all the credit, since Chip has contsructed the 3 larger buildings, even though I end up getting the hammer out to cull polys and do the texturing.yes, Chip also thinks I should go payware, but I have a long way to go. For now my payment is lovely thank you's like yours, knowing people are enjoying it.Our next project at KMMH is proving to be spectacular, tested 5 of the 10 buildings created by Chip with good fps performance. the massive hangar complex is impressive in sim, but will require much tweaking- the first incarnation had 100,000 polys! Quote
cw7 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 And I had absolutely no FPS issues with Sundowner or Duchess! Tempted to try the A380 just to see if I can cook-off the CPU! Anyway!Lookin' mucho good, Simes, really. I think you're spot-on about keeping things freeware for now, too. That said, I can't wait for the NORCAL scenery package! The High Sierra mountains will hopefully look every bit as grand as I expect they will. I have a feeling the Bay Area will be astonishing, but California is so huge and varied a landscape. We'll keep busy doing airports there for years! Quote
MaidenFan Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Where can you get that scenery? Quote
Simmo W Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Rush, what scenery do you mean? If it's the one that I just posted Chips pic of, it's kmpi Mariposa in U.S. If you can't download it at .org I can email it to you for $15.95 with extra bloodstains and beer cans if u want! ;D Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Ok people this forum has gone a bit quiet lately which I'm fine with but where are we going on Sunday. Im thinking hamilton island but I will discuss with anyone especially auzzies so we can pick a good fly in location. Quote
Oliver Posted September 16, 2010 Author Report Posted September 16, 2010 Alright Andrew, organize this one I'm gonna work most of the weekend so I probably won't be able to join, but I'll do my best! Quote
Simmo W Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 ok Andy, I should be able to make it between 1000am to 2pm ish [ 01:00 to 05:00UTC ] on Saturday (max 1hr full time, or else I eat into scenery or blog time). good luck in coordinating! I'm happy to fly anywhere, but better agree it by fri. night so I can research quick. I'm rusty on vatsim but no fear! Quote
