Baber20 Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 What if you get these type of clouds in X-Plane 10. Amazing !! Plus, these clouds are very light on GPU,CPU and memory. Read here http://www.simul.co.uk/weather
Simmo W Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 holy shit, just saw this, whichever sim implements THIS, I'm gonna use, beautiful!
Baber20 Posted August 21, 2010 Author Report Posted August 21, 2010 Just tried their demo. You can actually go 'into' and 'through' those clouds. It's very easy on fps even on max detail. Will be posting a video soon.
MaidenFan Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Is that video real or not? I had a hard time telling.
Wynthorpe Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Is that video real or not? I had a hard time telling. Its realtime generated via the weather engine, get the demo and try it out!
Simmo W Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 another recent one I found, lightning better
Colin S Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Man, if that was in X-Plane 10... it would be as close to real as I would want it to get.You guys seen the pictures on the .org
Jack Skieczius Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 someone needs to pass this onto ben or austin. seriously awesome stuff, i am looking into the demo right now.
Baber20 Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 someone needs to pass this onto ben or austin.Agree, but I think they won't be using it.As we know, they are building their own weather engine for V10.
Jack Skieczius Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 yeah, i figured as much, but still, i have seen a lot of weather systems over the years, and this one REALLY looks promising.
Japo32 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Amazing!.. sent info to Austin and Ben. I think they are too niiiiiice!! but the problem usually is, maybe they are low performance hit, but it is a engine for that only.. if you put the planes, their graphics, phisics etc etc.. then usually for sure performance will be lower and lower. Nice clouds for sure! would be a pleasure fly with them!
Baber20 Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 Thanks for passing on the info to Ben and Austin, Javier. I hope they'll look it into it. But the important thing is that, this engine is based on Direct X and X-Plane is OpenGL. So I think we might have a problem here.Edit: It DOES support OPENGL aswell as Ogre and OpenSceneGraph. Just saw it in their Feature list. A very interesting read about the Simul Weather 1.8 here http://www.modsim.org/Articles/Simul/index.htm#hdr
Wynthorpe Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Ive got hold of a copy from the developers and links to lots of source code and things if you want to take a look Javier?
dpny Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Laminar has already announced all new clouds and weather for v10.
crs Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Laminar has already announced all new clouds and weather for v10.Hi,Do you have a link to source?Would like to read something about that.Kind regards,Kamil

Lukasz Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I'm impressed by the scale of and vision behind new features of X-Plane. Also it's good to know, that v9 planes will work in v10, maybe with minor tweaks, to reflect those few little adjustments to flight model, as mentioned by Austin.

Also it's good to know, that v9 planes will work in v10, maybe with minor tweaks, to reflect those few little adjustments to flight model, as mentioned by Austin.Keep in mind, there's what Austin says and what Austin does. A "minor" tweak to him could be a major tweak to the rest of us.Not saying that will happen but, with Austin, it's best to wait until the first betas come out to see what's happened.
Lukasz Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Agreed, but I'm being optimistic, for once My first-hand experience is limited to v9, but by comparing it to v8 and noting the scale of progress, both in terms of simulation and visuals, I believe that v10 will be really good. It's easier to put all those additional goodies, when you have a solid foundation to work upon and I think that v9 is pretty solid. Time will tell...
Paraffin Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I don't think Laminar could afford the backlash if V8 and V9 planes couldn't be used in V10, since the community is so small (relative to MSFS) and there isn't a huge selection of good plane models. I'm hoping it will be something simple, like just opening the .acf file and saving it in Planemaker to handle any adjustments needed.
