hey guys,

I've been trying to take a visit back to my red bull scenery and do a few things. I made some custom boxes to represent sponsers logos and such around the gates. Here is my problem. Objects apear fine and look great BUT as I'm going through the course it seems like since the objects are not heavy in Poly's or triangle verticies, x-plane waits until the last minute to draw them. Almost as you are going through the course. Its like coming into an airport thats pretty heavy in objects and you know the closer you get to the runway the more objects start drawing in, this is exactly what I'm experiencing.

Question is= Is there a Line ATTR that I can attach to this file so that the objects will draw no matter what your object draw distance is? If so what is it or could you point me in the right direction. i have tried the LOD ATTR to no avail. These objects do not have enough verticies to demand use for a LOD ATTR. Any ideas?

I'm at least high object draw distance if not minimal at medium.

Cal u sound more advanced than me, but I wonder if LOD might still be causing issues, just saw this statement in the Obj8 specification 'If you do not specify any LODs, the entire model is treated as a single LOD, whose range is calculated automatically by X-Plane'- so maybe specifying one might improve. can't wait to hear the true answer if this doesn't work.

also saw this, sounds promising:

When the ATTR_layer_group is included somewhere in an object (it need only be used once, even if you have multiple LODs) then the object is drawn in a different layer group. The offset is used to prioritize further--for example. the group + 1 is drawn after the group, and the group - 2 is drawn two layers before objects. You can use an offset from -5 to + 5.

Hmmmm . I saw that Sully and tried to assign a few different values. But now that I read your reply it kind of makes sense. I wish I new the default value for such things like default buildings. That value would be perfect. Has anyone actually set an LOD to an object. Is the value feet, meters, etc.

I'll keep searching and researching.

Ok well here is the only thing. If you look at the pics above you can see all kinds of objects behind the scenery. The one thing that I don't understand is why won't these simple objects in front not draw before the scenery in the background. I'm just a beginner in 3d stuff. I'm trying to learn but its slow, but i figured I would get the best help and answers from X-pilot. Thanks for the answers so far. Once I get my mind wrapped around the lingo, i think that will give me somewhere to go.

If you guys have an idea that might work like adding a particular LOD ATTR. let me know. ANything that can get me off and running.

Ok I FOUND IT. If anyone else runs into this problem.

To override what x-plane tells it too based on the amount of vertices just add this line

ATTR_LOD 0.000000 10000.000000

That will fix and draw it out about 2 and a half miles.

Thanks

ATTR_LOD is _modulated_ by "world level of detail".  Your obj is guaranteed to be drawn out to the outer LOD distance (in meters) as long as world level of detail is on its "default" setting.  The other settings effectively make your LOD distance smaller.

thanks Ben! you Da Man, +1 and hey everybody, how dare this Karma be so low, get it up to 50 pronto..

I have to admit getting into scenery design is a definite challenge, please tell us xp10 will be so much easier?! it's fun though..
