Maupilot81 Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, since i updated to SMP v3 i noticed that there are no more shadows on the ground. I checked the clouds shadow box and still no shadows.Anyone of you had noticed that???I'm running x-plane 10.41 and ge force gtx 770 2 gb.Thanks.Mauv3 v2.1 Edited October 27, 2015 by Maupilot81 Quote
sundog Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I replicated your settings, and shadows appeared fine for me. Haven't heard of this happening from anyone else yet, either. I did notice that you have very little free video memory reported, however. Perhaps we weren't able to allocate the memory required for shadows as a result. You might have to turn down some rendering settings, or scale back your custom scenery. If you have HDR on, try turning it off. Quote

I disinstalled and reinstalled SMP v3 and now all works fine!!!Great work however Quote
uwespeed Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Unfortunately I still have the problem with invisible cloud shadows. Turning off HDR didn't help, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling SMP3. Screenshot of my SMP settings: The log: Log.txt Quote
sundog Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 One thing I noticed in your log is that there is a stratus cloud in your scene. Shadows won't be cast when a stratus layer is present, since this scatters the sunlight. Also be aware shadows won't appear if visibility is low, for the same reason. Try flying without any stratus or overcast cloud layers in your scene, and with good visibility, and you should see the cloud shadows then. Quote
uwespeed Posted October 31, 2015 Report Posted October 31, 2015 I used real weather, that's the reason why there were some stratus clouds. Removing them and setting the visibility to something higher, solved it. As you are saying "shadows won't appear if visibility is low" - how low is "low"? It seems to me that the shadow intensity is not only influenced by the according slider in SMP3, but also (more or less?) linear with the slider for the visibility in the weather menu. Is my observation correct? Quote
sundog Posted November 1, 2015 Report Posted November 1, 2015 It gets non linear at very low visibilities, but for the most part it just tries to prevent shadows from appearing on fogged-out terrain. We try to fade out the shadows with distance consistent with the visibility setting. Quote
