Dear All,

I had two crahes today with Skymaxx 2.1.1 installed. In the first instance the log.txt did not mention Siverline but since I had updated today I was suspicious and deinstalled Skymaxx. After flying a while without issues I newly installed Skymaxx 2.1.1 and had a second crash. I am attaching the log.txt (renamed to Silverline Crash.txt). Please check.

For now I have deinstalled Skymaxx again to avoid further issues.

Cheers,

Heiko

Not a whole lot to go on there, although it does look like the crash came from within SkyMaxx Pro. If a crash report with a call stack is available it would be useful to see that file as well.

My first suspicion is that you ran out of video memory - you do have some custom scenery going on there, so perhaps your video card ran out of resources between that scenery and Skymaxx Pro's clouds. If no memory is available when the weather changes and SMP needs to make new clouds, a crash could occur. So, if you want to troubleshoot this, the first thing I would try is re-activating SMP but flying somewhere without custom scenery, and see if that works better. You do have a good graphics card, but photoscenery can eat up every byte on even the best of them.

I also see you are using EFASS. You could also see if the problem only occurs with it, or make sure you are using the latest version of EFASS. I know many customers use EFASS with SMP successfully, but I do remember hearing about crashes in older versions.

Hi guys,

The same thing happened to me today. At the end of my log, I got the error stating that X-Plane had crashed due to SkyMaxx Pro. I can attach the log and dump file tomorrow if it's relevant?

Again, I'm using X-Plane 10.31.

I've also found that although the clouds look incredible!! - I have experienced a loss in FPS. I fly a lot of IFR and over certain areas, I'm experiencing 12-17 FPS, never been so low before.

Many thanks for all of your help so far and the fantastic products you bring out. They're seriously incredible and have really changed the reality of X-Plane.

All the best and many thanks.

Please do send along your log and dump. However I just tried switching airports using X-Plane 10.31 and Skymaxx Pro 2.1.1 and it works fine for me.

I suspect you're running out of VRAM due to custom scenery, or you may be running an add-on that calls X-Plane's functions for FMS information, such as X-FMC. From what I've read, there is a bug in X-Plane 10.31  where add-ons that call into this can corrupt X-Plane's plugin environment, causing other plugins (such as SkyMaxx Pro) to crash. I've seen a couple of reports like this from users flying with the 777 Worldliner, so I suspect it may be doing something similar.

Short story: try flying without custom scenery and see if that helps. If not, if you're using X-FMC - get its latest beta which fixes this issue. If you're flying the 777, try a different plane.

If it is custom scenery that's pushing you over the edge, reducing the cloud draw distance and cloud detail settings in SkyMaxx Pro can help to conserve VRAM.

Hi Frank,

Many thanks for the reply. Were you replying to both of us?

In terms of memory allocation and systems specs, I don't hthink my system will have a problem with VRAM.

I've just looked at the log again and at the bottom it states:

SkyMaxx Pro: Altitude set to 2580.977345
--=={This application has crashed!}==--

I can't remember whether this indicates that it's actually X-Plane, as Plug-in crashes usually come up with "X-Plane has crashed due to the following plugin:"

In terms of what I'm running, I have NOAA Weather Plugin enabled and the only major change I have made is to update scenery meshes to V3, including Armin's SimHeaven ones...

I've had the simulator running for more than 40 hours stable as I did an around the world flight (plus many other long haul flights), so it's a conflict between 'something else' and SkyMaxx Pro or Scenery Mesh V3 (including SimHeaven Scenery).

I have included the Log and Dump files.

Many thanks :)

Pete

Pete,

Can you try running SMP without the NOAA weather plugin I suspect this is what is causing your crash.  The crash occurs after new weather information is passed to X-Plane and SMP starts drawing this layer again......

Its my understanding that NOAA hasnt been keeping up with the X-Plane BETA cycles and it may have some issues......

However, you have a lot of custom enhanced scenery going on. No matter how good your system is, it is possible to exhaust the VRAM you have with too much scenery.

I would try flying in an area without custom scenery and see if the problem continues.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for your responses. I'm really grateful to have received help so quickly.

@JohnMAXX: I am currently reinstalling X-Plane and will reinstall all of my plugins and enhancements, except for NOAA weather. Can you confirm (or at least make a guess) that EFASS's XPSM Weather Plugin will work?

@Frank: My VRAM usage is well within the limit as I have a 4GB GTX 770 card. I have also closely monitored my VRAM through X-Plane and Sysinternals Process Explorer and it's less than half of the physical VRAM that I have. I have also been running X-Plane with these settings, addons and plugins for over a year now with full stability (full SimHeaven scenery for the whole of Europe in ZL17, including all City Areas in ZL17.) I will check again, but I don't think it's that.

Many thanks Frank and John, really appreciated :)

Do you want me to keep you updated?

Yes please Pete,  we can use this info in the future.....

My guess on EFASS is a yes, Wycliffe Barrett of X-Plane Dedicated uses this program...... You can find him on Facebook under that group for more information.......

Lack of memory might be an issue. I thought 3GB of video RAM should be enough by maybe there is a need for more during loading.

Meanwhile I had another comparable crash without SkyMaxx installed. That made me reduce the overall texture resolution from extreme to very high. The next flight (same route) went without crash. I now installed SkyMaxx again.

I will report.

Your log indicates the crash occurred within X-Plane, and not from SkyMaxx Pro.

I noticed you are using a third party aircraft - if you fly with a default aircraft, are your flights more stable? Custom scenery might also have something to do with it, but you've got a decent video card so I think your system should be able to handle that.

If you are prompted to submit a crash report to Laminar following a crash like this, please do so. Only they can diagnose something like this reliably. I've read they are aware of problems that seem to be arising from within video drivers, which would be consistent with what you are seeing.

Thank you Frank.

I guess I have too many plugins at work, interfering with each other. I did a clean new install. As addons I will use the FF757 as my favourite a/c only. I will also use EFASS but this time without any plugins and without UltraWx (which requires plugin). Those two (FF757 and EFASS) are more important to me than the "eyecandy" SkyMaxx is providing (no degrading of SkyMaxx intendend, just my personal preference). If the crashes stop, I will install SkyMaxx again and see what happens.

Btw: I found out that after deinstalling SkyMaxx not all files were removed. At least in the plugin folder a subfolder called "SilverLining" remained which contains a file called "settings.dat". Does this file do anything?

Cheers,

EFASS UltraWX plugin and SkyMaxx do not mix well and cause issues.

Can you be more specific? I know of some people using EFASS with SMP who seem to be happy with it.

Ideally send us a log.txt following any problem you're experiencing.

Hi Frank,

I started with no plugings with a clean install. Then I added them one by one. I start getting reproducable crashes when using SkyMaxx and UltraWx (EFASS) at the same time and the crashes stop when I disable either UltraWx or SkyMaxx.

I am a passionate user of x-plane, not a professional tester. I dislike the sim crashing before finishing my flight. I will therefore keep one of the two a.m. plugins disabled until someone finds a clue. If, by chance, I find out more specific details, I will post again, of course.

Thank you for your support and keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Hi guys, I keep on having the same crash over and over.... after 10/20 minutes after take off the sim crashes. I dont think is the graphic card cause I have a GTX Titan with 6G of VRam. I guess it could be skymaxx or EFASS

Now, which one to use is a big question.
