Exterior view engine sounds are un-realistic and sound like an old windmill.  Interior engines sound are great.  Anything I can do to improve the exterior engine sounds?

As far as I know, we haven't had anyone else complain about the sounds sounding like an "old windmill".

Here's a video showing the exterior with engines running that sound like a, well, a DC-3.

The sounds were recorded in stereo, from a real DC-3 by Vance Dylan at Sonic Solutions.

No, there is nothing you can do to change them and we have no plans on doing anything further with them.

Hope that answers your question.

Okay, the exterior and interior sound matches what I hear.  I'm guessing the "real engine" sound for exterior was recorded with aircraft at idle on the ground.

Thanks for the feedback.

From my experience: what you hear is closely tied to your speaker system.

When I upgraded from my build-in monitor speakers to a 11'' x 7'' amplified hifi speaker - sounds came alive that were never to be heard before. It completely changed the sound experience.

It's very hard to judge the quality of sounds without a really good and well adjusted speaker system.

I am very sorry but i have to disagree

The sounds inside the Cockpit are exceptional and in high quality.

Also the startup and idle sounds are ok.

But the cruise sounds are not.

To me, and i know it is a subjective isue and i know it is also affected by what sound equipment i use.

BUT .......

In midflight trimmed on cruise speed and altitude... the engine dos not sound like it is running smooth... I still hear some stutter and coughs... she just dosn't sound healthy to me.

If i listen closely i would be able to count the revolutions.

And there is another problem but i guess that can't  be fixed due to x-plane limitations: The doppler effect or better words, phase shifting, i get when both engines runing.

Just my feel.

Jerome
