Hueyman Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 Mm sorry, what is it ? I was hoping to see some WiP on new water engine for X-Plane ;-) Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 Mm sorry, what is it ? I was hoping to see some WiP on new water engine for X-Plane ;-)Sorry to disappoint you Huey......honestly comments like that make me want to shoot people the bird... Quote
scotchegg Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 Very happy to see this. Getting a bit tired of perpetual summer. 1 Quote
hobofat Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 I was debating plunking down some money for a few P3D sceneries, but held back for a few reasons, the largest being that flight sim is an expensive hobby (if you like add-ons!) and I can't really afford to spread my resources over two sims. But I love flying in northern hemispheres and the lack of snow has been killing me (figuratively speaking)! The planes I fly the most are still X-Plane, so I can't give that up. I'm very happy to see that you've decided to take this on. 1 Quote
Tsetsoh Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 John, That is looking very good! I'm looking forward to this to go with UrbanMaxx, and SkyMaxxPro. 1 Quote
Hueyman Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 Sorry to disappoint you Huey......honestly comments like that make me want to shoot people the bird... Sorry I was just asking what it is because I don't see what is WiP ( I'm sorry if it's related to your other projects, I don't follow / aware of every add ons in development ... ) Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Snow? I dunno I thought X-Plane didn't have any.... To be more precise in regards to water Huey, it is been put out there that we don't have access in the SDK to modify water....(yet, hopefully) Take solace knowing my hands are not idle... JohnMAXX Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 Nah Huey, Im sorry if I came off short..... Just feeling a bit sarcastic today 1 Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 Ok still working over here, keep in mind I still need to refine a bunch of things......ie: the normal maps are a bit to much right now. Here are two shots with normal maps off/on to show you what it brings to the sim.... Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 Here is one putting it all together......again an early WIP shot.... 3 Quote

scotchegg Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) the normal maps are a bit to much right now. I see what you mean. Having slightly 3Desque textured snow does make a huge difference but the current maps do look a tad 'busy'. Have you seen the snow / ice textures in MS Flight? They did quite a good job on the mapping. I'm not sure on the scale of this WIP but would things like snowy road / runway textures be possible? (Although this might not be necessary if LR get dynamic snow to work as they said they're considering) More of a long shot I guess if you haven't got access to water modifications, but iced over rivers / lakes? Ice floes in coastal waters...? Just trying to manage expectations... Edited January 2, 2014 by scotchegg Quote
jonrd463 Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 YES! This will be a day 1 purchase for me, assuming it's payware. Will there be variations, i.e. "Hard Winter" versus "Temperate Winter", and will latitude have any bearing on how much snow will be around? Quote

Even this project, early as it might be seems much more thematically cohesive. Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 2, 2014 Author Report Posted January 2, 2014 The normals are way to busy right now, I plan on refining them in them as work goes on No access to water in the SDK, I do plan on updating the coastlines as part of the the package and possibly runways...... Id like to have two variations of winter, lets see Quote

JohnMAXX Posted January 6, 2014 Author Report Posted January 6, 2014 i'll buy that STAT! We still have a bunch of work to do, but I promise it will be a great add-on..... 1 Quote
HiFlyer Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Is it intended that the textures will load automatically according to the season chosen, or will it have to be done manually? Quote
JohnMAXX Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 We are shooting for automatic...... 2 Quote
HiFlyer Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 We are shooting for automatic...... Cool! Hope that works out. Quote
HiFlyer Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 By the way, I probably do a lot more experimenting with settings than actually flying at this point, and I notice the sim is very "shimmery" which requires pretty heroic AA settings to combat. A closer look shows the vast majority of this is coming from the trees, and I wonder if you know of some changes that could be made to them to moderate/lessen the effect....... Quote
