What didn't work specifically?

i did the radio setup where you speak to the mic and i hear myself and i checked preferences and it was fine then i tried to speak and the red circle with a "T" in it showed up

Thats good. that means the MIc works, XSB is setup correctly for push-to-talk, and that it will transmit actual voice (rather than static).

and now i don't know what to do

This is the crux of the problem. What do you *think* you need to do? What are you expecting to happen? How do you think it should all work? (Im interested in your response, because I think that everything is actually working, it's just that your expectation as to what should happen may need some education here).

Hints: Did you tune your COM1 radio? Do you see a list of Active Controllers on your Screen/Who's Online Window? Can you voice-hear other air traffic in the area where there is an active controller? Have you EVER gotten voice to work in VATSIM, or is this your very first attempt to use Voice?

Okay first what didn't work is I was using text and when I tried to talk he couldn't hear me and when he tried to talk I couldn't hear him? I have tried a bunch of things by nothing has worked so far. I was expecting it to work! I think i should press the button and it would transmit my message! I did tune my NAV1 to the right radio(cause I could see text). I do see a list of active controllers. I cant hear other controllers but I can read their text. I have never gotten vatsim to work because this was my first try.

WHO couldn't hear you?

Another Plane?

A Controller?

Some guy on the street corner?

> I have tried a bunch of things by nothing has worked so far.

Like what?

> I was expecting it to work!

Um you cant answer with the same answer i.e. "I was expecting it to work like I expected it to". Circular Definition. Not allowed in normal human conversation.

> I did tune my NAV1 to the right radio

You tune the COM1 Radio.

> cause I could see text.

and What channel did you tune it to?

> I do see a list of active controllers.

Did you tune your COM1 radio to one of their frequencies? So far, you have never said which frequency you are turned to. VATSIM requires you to tune frequencies that actually have a number number number dot number number format.

Did the VATSIM menu come up and say "Connected To Voice Room"?

Did the VATSIM window spill out any information in Magenta text? Like "Welcome to Sydney Tower - ATIS on xxx.xxx Arraiving avd Departing 16L?"

> I cant hear other controllers but I can read their text.

Youre sure its a controller? Which controller were you talking to? what area were you in? when were you there? You need to please give specifics.. What Frequency was the Controller on? what was the Controller position name? i.e. KBOS_CTR? CZVR? KSEA_APP? In X-Plane 10's Settings -> Sound Menu, do you have the "Com chatter" volume set to something greater than 0%?

>Who couldn't hear you

It was the TWR at EGSS

>What had I tried

I tried testing the mic in te sim and in the control panel I did multiple sound checks and it worked. I went to my preferences in XSquawkBox and that was all set up and I went through a bunch of stuff with the EGSS TWR guy.

>I expected it to work

I don't really know how to answer that. But I just expected I would connect my mic and assign a button then I would be able to talk to ATC

>On COM1

I accidentally said NAV I meant COM 1

>What Chanel did you tune it to

I tuned it to EGSS tower it was 123.800 I believe

>Were you on the right frequency and did you see all the right things

I was on the EGSS TWR 123.800 and it was on my NAV 1. I did see the List of controllers and I could see all the controllers names. It did come up with the info like what the controller controlled that was all in red text right when I joined.

>I need info about the controller

It was EGSS_TWR on frequency 123.800. I was around London going to EDDF. I will check the com chatter thing... Would that also block out going sound?

Okay this is my sound tab it seems to be at %100 does it look right to you? I may have turned off radio chatter at some point but i can't find it?

I am on X-Plane right now on Vatsim at EGLL now it is LON_CTR at 123.900 but i am in his voice room

I don't know about anyone else, but I uncheck "verbal ATC" and "text ATC" in the Xplane sound configuration dialog box. If I don't, I get VATSIM via XSquawkbox and Xplane ATC via, well, Xplane. I can see where having both on might cause some confusion.

I can't help you with your Windows machine, but when you get your Mac, drop me a line and I can help you get it set up for VATSIM.  You don't need TeamSpeak to fly on VATSIM, but it would be helpful to use TeamSpeak to talk you through setting up your computer for VATSIM.

TeamSpeak and VATSIM are two completely different things.  You can use TeamSpeak to talk with someone who can help you set up X-Plane and XSquawkbox so you can communicate on VATSIM.  When I fly online, regardless of the server, I have TeamSpeak on so I can talk to the other pilots.  I am also connected to PilotEdge or VATSIM or NetFlight or X-FlightServer.  TeamSpeak is not connected to VATSIM.

I suggest you find someone with a Windows computer with VATSIM and TeamSpeak.  Find a TeamSpeak server you can both get onto and have him/her talk you through getting you set up for VATSIM.  As I said, I'd be happy to do this with you when you get your Mac.  I mainly fly on PilotEdge, but I am familiar with VATSIM as well.
