I have to agree that 3D is awesome, and yes dozer, 2D panels could be done better. I've often had the idea that someone could make a really simple plugin, that allows pop up screens to show with a click of the button. That would widen the capabilities of the 2D cockpit, a lot like the X737....

In PM you can have pop-up panels, but they are not move-able. You group the set of instruments, then you have the option to show/hide the group with a dataref.
