larjeet
Graham clouds have allways been the killer of frame rates in all flightsims Microsoft allways used extremly large high resolution files fore there clouds leading too a lot of modified cloud files that had been shrunk in size . Muskoka
No difference to me. They always looked fantastic, until you get to higher altitudes, they you get the double layered effect. Did a flight this morning (RC2) and the problem is still there. I did get an email stating that they are still looking at "fixing" the problem with the clouds, but other things were of priority right now. Fair enough, I won't let them forget. I did have a drastic hit in my fps when I was climbing out though. On the ground in rain and heavy cover I was getting between 60-70 fps in the CRJ-200, with settings fairly high, as I should be able to do with an i7 2600 clocked at 4.8ghz and a ATI 6970 with 2 gb ram and 8gm ram for the system. As soon as I popped through the clouds the fps dropped to 7'ish. Changed the cloud slider from 36 to 10 and the fps were in the low 20's. But at 10, the clouds had lost all their "body" looked to thin, and the whole effect was lost .Clouds are still an issue, as they have stated.Glenedit: The email also suggested to not use real weather as it's pretty hard on most systems. I don't so much think it's the real weather, but the clouds that it may bring that's the problem. I did a flight last night in the Carenado Bonanza with real wether, but basically clear skies and I was getting upwards of 100fps, and that was at 3840 x 1024, with settings high, no HDR, no AI. GrahamH
That's true Larjeet, but with clouds set on, the sim is pretty much unusable. I think I get a maximum of around 13fps
larjeet
Yes that can happen I use to fly on sunny days only in FS9 and FSX because of system limitations but with my new system I can run both with almost all sliders slid to the right and full WX . Not sure what you are running for computer but I can run up to 40+ FPS with out clouds but I get kncked back to 19-21 with full WX . You will just have to keep an eye on the NCIX weekly sales and may be upgrade your graphics card or somthing . It would be nice to be able to just keep upgrading every time new hardware came out but thats not allways possible . I have done to much upgrading this year so I will have to only dream of HD7970 unless I win the lottery LOLLarry Edited January 13, 2012 by larjeet
glenner
Just tried RC2. Currently, I find that the real weather option gives the best clouds. Set the slider at 50% and got these great clouds. The strange clouds from high altitudes still exists though.
MaidenFan
Looking at forum and blog posts, I think it is very apparent that user don't like the new clouds and settings. I can't believe Laminar still hasn't went back to Beta 7 clouds and the 3 slider adjusters...
zoltron_rulez
They may, they may not. You most likely would have a better turn around on this issue if you're still trying the demo and haven't purchased the game until this issue is resolved. That's why I have not purchased my copy yet,- not tied to the sim in anyway. I will wait on the final product, after all it is still in beta.So far here is my quick, dirty evaulation:- Lighting - BEST ever seeen for a sim- Terrain - poor-to-moderate (in relation to other sims)- Clouds - Excellent until now- FPS - bad even on high end systems (I get much better FPS in FSX with better looking terrain and clouds)Clearly, until the above is addressed I will not spend $80. larjeet
Are you kidding reguarding the terrain see photos below The one with the Caranado Cessna 152 is taken in XPX the one with the Carenado Mooney is taken with FSX .I am using the Vancouver + addon which uses Holgars Mesh . And it is some of the best in FSX . But I find the XPX more realistic.also the cloud in this shot are not the default clouds they are a Hi def pack designed for FS9 . It depends where you are. Some terrain is rendered better in one place than others. For example go to Dubai, UAE or other places in the world. Also, the terrain accuracy varies. The fact it looks great locally doesn't mean it looks great everywhere else.
larjeet
interesting but I thought the demo was limited to a small area of the pacific north west I did not realize you could load download and install the rest of the world into Demo how long did it take you ? zoltron_rulez
That's correct, demo has limited scenery. I look at different previews on http://xplane10.wordpress.com/, they look at different items in X-plane from terrain to lighting, clouds, etc.

woweezowee
what's true is that there are still some old textures used in x-plane 10. not all textures have been replaced with new and better ones. This will come over time with x-plane updates.
