rddaos Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Just wanted to know if there are any plans to release an updated version of the Cessna. It's a great airplane, but would be even better with an updated version and updated manual. Incidentally, I noticed today that it doens't appear to simulate DME equipment. Maybe the next version could include DME? Thanks!

Any time the POH changes we will issue an update for it as well.I'd be interested to know what else you feel would make the aircraft better. This version of the Corvalis/Garmin G1000 (Garmin Pilot Guide version 190-00552-01 Rev D.) does not include DME. You can program an NDB identifier into the FMS.Thanks for your continued interest.Jim
rddaos Posted May 7, 2011 Author Report Posted May 7, 2011 What would make the Corvalis better? For me, it would be nice if the control stick, and rudder pedals moved. Also it would be nice if the lettering on the cockpit buttons were crisper and easier to read. I bought the Yak 55 payware and the font on the instruments is very crisp and sharp. Conversly, I have the ERJ ..150 I think it is, my GOD is the font blurry - very hard to read! I'm sure there are many other things that could improve the aircraft, but since I don't know very much about flight systems, I wouldn't notice them. By the way, what's a "DRM system"? I tried googling it, but I cannot find information on this acronym. I assume I can get my hands on the new release in ...a month or so?Thanks!
Oliver Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 DRM System = Digital Rights Management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management).

I assume I can get my hands on the new release in ...a month or so?Thanks! If the Corvalis had a "standard" yoke then animation would be easy. However, the Corvalis has a "leather" boot at the bottom of the side stick, which is much harder to animate. While I understand that this may change the overall simulation (immersion) it certainly does not affect the "flight model". So, I decided to NOT animate the pedals OR the stick. I guess some will find this an issue but most will probably not.I feel that Nils is one of the best developers of X-Plane add-ons, so if I don't currently measure up I guess I can live with that. On the other hand Nils once posted about the Yak..."I'm up to 14 2048x2048 texture maps so she's a bit of a VRAM hog at the moment, which becomes noticeable on my laptop with only 256Mb."I'm not sure if the Yak (as it was released) had that many textures. But, if the Corvalis had (14) 2048x2048 textures then the "lettering" of the instruments would be much higher resolution. There is always a decision to be made between number of textures and performance (FPS). When I do a complete overhaul of the Corvalis (Version 2.0) the "entire" aircraft will be improved, including the "lettering".You wrote..."I'm sure there are many other things that could improve the aircraft, but since I don't know very much about flight systems, I wouldn't notice them. "Well, I guess if you are going to "suggest" that I make improvements or updates to the aircraft it would be helpful you were specific. Maybe if you don't "notice" a need to improve the "flight systems" then they really don't need to be improved! Many Corvalis customers have commented that the aircraft is "very" accurate as far as performance is concerned. So, if you want the "flight systems" to be improved/updated then give me the details, otherwise I can't help you. Jim@Oliver.. thanks for the explanation of DRM.
rddaos Posted May 7, 2011 Author Report Posted May 7, 2011 There are always improvements that can be made. For example, maybe put descriptions on more of the instruments so when you hover the mouse over the instrument the description pops up. And, it doesn't appear you can test magnetos by cranking the ignition to R, L, or both. These are minor things, the most important for me would be updating the lettering, that would make the cockpit pop. And for pete's sake, get some bigger speed brakes. I don't see how those tiny little things that pop up can ever slow an aircraft down. Joking. I'd be interested in knowing what updates are coming with the next update and/or version 2.0, and ballpark time frame for releasing those updates.

The new DRM is tied into the release of other aircraft such as the CRJ, so, once that is released and things calm down a little for Cameron we will release the Corvalis update. When we are VERY CLOSE to that date we will release the change list. I can't even begin to think about when version 2.0 will be available... too much else to do first Jimedit: I have no problem testing the magnetos... please check again.
birdy.dma Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Hi Jim.A nice improvement should be to have a pop up of the right display. The moving map should be more readeble and useful. It should also be displayed in color. In 3d pit some manipulators are not always in the right place. Sometimes i have to freeze the sim for some adjustments The area where we have to click under the displays are to small. The training tutorial is a nice idea, but it is not enough polished. When i leave the Corvalis for the Falco, Garmin and radios of the Falco are darks. I have to set cold and dark and reset the sim to recover them. No problems from Falco to Corvalis.Have a nice WE.

No problems from Falco to Corvalis.Have a nice WE.The next update will not have a pop-up of the MFD, however, if you use the PilotView plug-in you can create your own views that can be quickly accessed. The moving map is getting an upgrade in the next update. If I understand you correctly regarding the manipulators, this is actually a Laminar/XP problem that they know about... there are other threads that discuss this. If you are talking about the "click-spots" for the PFD and MFD SoftKeys (triangles) that is a different story as they are not manipulators and I may be able to do some "adjustments" there.I agree, the tutorial could be better As of Version 1.0 of the Corvalis the lights are reset when you leave the Corvalis and go to ANY OTHER aircraft. I'm not sure why you would be having a problem. Does this occur with any other aircraft besides the Falco? If not I would suggest you write to Tom and see if he has any suggestions.I am glad you are enjoying the aircraft.Jim
birdy.dma Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 My first plane for my first flight ( christmas ) was the stock cessna. Then after a ton of reading and googling, i improved my flight experience with the Falco, and now your Corvalis. I dont' know anything with other plane.I know pilotview, but never use it yet. What i hope is a larger and much more crisp and detailed map on this mfd panel. So even zooming the map could be useable.Patiently waiting your improvements.Claude.
simbabeat Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 I'd be interested to know what else you feel would make the aircraft better.Hi Jim,Sorry if I'm chiming in a little late on this but I'm a pretty recent customer of the Corvalis. My main request would be more expansion of the MFD. I would like to see more features of the G1000 such as visualizing the runways on the MFD or looking up the ILS frequencies on the MFD so we wouldn't have to go into the local map to know them. Also another thing I would like is a taxiing camera just like the real Corvalis. And if I'm not mistaken, that could be extremely easy to implement as it is pretty much a default instrument. And of course, If you want to really make us happy, the G1000 synthetic vision would be amazing!!!Just my two cents

Can it be done... maybe. I will continue to develop the Corvalis/G1000 with that goal in mind.Specifically, you mentioned "visualizing the runways on the MFD", or what Garmin calls "SafeTaxi®". We don't have a database of airport layouts available to match this feature exactly but I have something in mind that may work... stay tuned. Procedures and Airport/Navigation frequencies are definitely something I would like to include, again... stay tuned. You also mentioned "a taxiing camera just like the real Corvalis." This is news to me. Can you show me a picture or video of this feature because I have never seen a Corvalis (from the factory) with a camera.Ahhh yes, synthetic vision.... This would be really difficult to replicate exactly as Garmin has done it... so... no...not in the near future, sorry Maybe a variation at some point. Thanks for your input... I'm always open to suggestions.Jim

Also, isn't there a feature on the MFD that when the range knob is all the way on 0.5m that that it can display little outlines of runways? I may be thinking of something else...You also mentioned "a taxiing camera just like the real Corvalis." This is news to me. Can you show me a picture or video of this feature because I have never seen a Corvalis (from the factory) with a camera.Sorry I was thinking of the Cirrus G1000. It's a feature exclusive to that version of the g1000. It's like this:note the PFD and the MFD.I often get the Cirrus SR22 and the C400 mixed up so nevermind about that.Cheers

"Also, isn't there a feature on the MFD that when the range knob is all the way on 0.5m that that it can display little outlines of runways?" Again, I'm not sure what you mean... please post a picture if you can.• I'm not sure that even the Cirrus camera is a "factory" option... it may be a third party add-on. In any event it is definitely not available for the Corvalis I never get the Cirrus and Corvalis mixed up.. there are considerable differences, which in my opinion make the Corvalis a much better aircraft. but that's just me Also.. Cessna has announced that the Corvalis TTx with the Garmin G2000 will be available in 2012... much more advanced than the Cirrus... check it out here...http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=1953.0Jim

The times I've flown the G1000 when you zoom in to .5m you can actually see a full map of the airport. IE it shows your location on the taxiway, and which taxiway you are heading towards. Assuming he was on a taxiway it would show the picture below except the airplane "marker" would be following a taxiway along a virtual layout of the airport. I can try to take a shot of it next time I fly G1000 if you want?
