I think you will need X-Plane -99 to do a work of this calibre

It's really the peoplemoton in combination with shrubbery that sets this scenery apart.

I think the weather enhancement is just an artists impression and not intended for the final product.

On a serious note, just picked up "Spectre" for the iphone for $1, great smooth gameplay and brings the memories back!  - and no, it's not the more recent C-130 based game.

A lethal but easy to use online mode too. Incredible $1 value. If anyone brings out the original 'Elite', I might cry with joy!

Just grab a disc image and an emulator from Ian Bell's Site (half the team that wrote Elite, but apparently not as self-aggrandising as David Braben).

Thanks Kesomir! I'll give it a try. Last time I tried an emulator, it was more bother than it was worth. This sounds promising. A perfect use for my i7, it might keep up.
