Nicola_M Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) The Rotor Brake sign on the BK is spelt wrongly on the annunciator panel (Break).I've corrected it so the sign now reads the proper spelling - applies to both lit and unlit.Drop in three small corrected png files to correct. Nova Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 As you said, it's fictional, but i would still like to see a "real" registration on it.Helicopters registered to germany are having a D-Hxxx registration.I don't think it looks so bad. Some sort of "show paint" ;D Quote
Nicola_M Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) BK117 Tinted Windows, Rotors & Glass - EXCLUSIVE TO X-PILOT.COMI have made a Rotors & Glass kit which enables you to select tinted windows for the BK117, and also fine tune what opacity you want for each window (if using Photoshop). In addition, window slider profiles are included, including window vents for the older BK117s.You can also select different coloured rotors to suit your taste: black w/yellow tips, red+white stripes, black+white stripes or all-white.Use this kit to create a png file called "BK-117_cockpit_glass", an example included. This goes into the "objects" folder of whatever livery you choose.Download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?5t94mv65f59k4dbSize: 11mbEDIT: 2nd July 2011 1500hrs GMT. Oliver Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks Nicola! Definitely going to try it when I get back to my XP computer Quote
Dozer Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 I'm very impressed with your dedication to the BK117 Nicola! Especially when you discover tricks like the window tinting and rotor colour! I'm looking forward to finishing moving all my stuff into my new house and being able to play with fun X-Plane things like this again! Quote
Nicola_M Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks Dozer. The tints I had a brainwave about last night, having discovered opacity a while back and wondered "what if." Bit disappointed, many BK117s came with tinted windows, but what looks right from the outside in xp is too dark to see through from the inside.I am getting to the point where the BK is well into the 90%+ accurate range, with very little left to improve it. The two big things remaining are that the front doors windows are wrong, and all 4 hinges on the BK have to be the same colour. Sadly I can't resolve those, otherwise this would be nearer the 100% accurate mark.Considering Icaro/Icarus and Flightgear both have BK117s which are nowhere near as authentic, I still maintain Nils has created a masterpiece which I regard as the best heli in any sim. I was in a quandry when it was released - the BK117 had by far the best-looking cockpit of any aircraft I'd ever seen at that time (others since then have closed the gap), and I didn't want to fly anything else. But I don't know how to fly helicopters properly, and I mostly fly IFR, and flying a helicopter IFR between cities is a veeeerrrrrrryyyyyy ssssssllllllllooooooowwwwwwww experience. If memory serves I solved that puzzle by playing Team Fortress 2 for a few months then buying the Falco. Quote

Nicola_M Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) New cockpit lighting for the BK117Nils has served us an astonishing bit of kit that is the BK. However, his aim was to create a well-used/not pristine cockpit but I found that while the dull lighting is representative of a past-its-prime heli, the fact is that most of the BKs still in service are kept in pristine condition. On top of that, the faded and dull instrument lighting made for interesting events when you needed important information. So, I have created a way to improve/brighten the instrument lighting. What's changed:Brighter instruments on the instrument panel, still adjustable for brightness using dimmer switchesDimmer switches now litFire Control panel now litStandby Horizon button (under glareshield) now litGarmin G430 buttons now litTransponder buttons now litSAS/ATT and Beep Trim panels now litWindshield compass now litHydraulic gauges in ceiling now litRadio buttons now lit.EDIT: 19Nov11 - switch surrounds on overhead panels added to the files. But rather than go on, just look over the pictures. In order1. Warmbrak Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Very nice work Nicola, I have to commend the effort you are putting into these repaints and enhancements to Nils' excellent aircraft. Quote
Nicola_M Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 @Simbabeat, buying the BK was the best $25 I spent in XP. It's easier to fly than the H500D and the sound files Conex gave it just give it an all-round realistic experience. Can't recommend it highly enough.@Namaui +1@Warmbrak,thanks. I'm running out of enhancements to do, as it was soo good to start with. I'd really love to see Nils make some addons for it, like searchlights for a police variant, a winch for an SAR version, the armed military one, or maybe just the passenger seating version, but I know he's doing other things so it'll probably never happen. However I think overall with what's been done so far, it's about as realistic as possible now. Quote
