shreddersa Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 (edited) I have just downloaded Skymaxx Pro 4 and noted that it produces little blocks and one can see the actual clouds through those. Very weird. I did notice the same effect occasionally in 3.3 on XP11, then it sort of faded in and out over say 10 seconds. Now its permanent. The screenshot is over Seattle on what is meant to be a cloudy day. The next picture shows more of the effect but now also with more cloud visible... HELP!!! sundog Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 On the few occasions where we've had users report this, it's turned out to be a hardware issue with their video card. If you can give us your log.txt file so we can see your system information, we can investigate further. Quote
shreddersa Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Posted December 18, 2016 Thanks Frank, please see attached... Log.txt Quote
JohnMAXX Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 If you're over clocking you may want to look into that also..... Quote

sundog Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 I'm not an expert on Mac models, but does this sound like your system? http://hothardware.com/news/apple-quietly-recalls-2013-mac-pros-due-to-defective-amd-firepro-gpus Quote

I bought mine in 2014. This is a pic over the San Francisco area with lots of ground scenery and still looks ok... Quote
shreddersa Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Posted December 18, 2016 Whatever it is, its not consistent. This is a pic back over Seattle. Looking good now... Quote
sundog Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 It is exactly the same GPU as you have, though. If this is in fact a 2013-model Mac Pro I think you probably should contact Apple to see if there's a known issue and potential warranty fix. Quote
shreddersa Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Posted December 18, 2016 Could be, thanks Frank. It is the first time I have encountered it though, and have been using some very graphics intense programs. Will keep an eye on it and report back on further developments. Must say, Skymaxx Pro 4 with XP11 is looking very good, well done to the team! Regards, Roel Quote

diamonddriller Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 I had the same blocky effects in the clouds with X-Plane 10.51 and SkyMaxx Pro 4.01. Never had that with v3. Using a 5K iMac with the 4GB Radeon M395X. I wasn't using HDR, but clicked that on and the blocks disappeared....... Quote
diamonddriller Posted March 25, 2017 Report Posted March 25, 2017 I'm getting the blocks more often now. Often have to disable SkyMaxx Pro. Also, this problem creates a few other graphic anomalies which I'd never seen in v3. I hope v4.1 cures this, else I will revert to v3..... Quote
sundog Posted March 26, 2017 Report Posted March 26, 2017 I've actually been looking into this more lately. On a Mac I've been able to reproduce something like this if I write code that changes the currently active texture in OpenGL without telling X-Plane about it, or without putting it back to what it was. Our next release will have additional protection to make sure SMP cannot do this, but interactions with other plugins or add-ons could also cause this sort of thing. Quote
diamonddriller Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) I was sometimes getting a semi-transparent view of the vertical stationary prop (i.e the prop as it looks from the cockpit before one starts the engine) while flying, as the blocky clouds and visibility altered. As the weather cleared, this anomaly cleared with it. I had not seen this before 4.01, I'm pretty sure - I mean the original v4 did not do this - I repeat, I don't remember it doing this, but maybe I'm mistaken. Do you have a clue as to what sort of other plugins could cause this? Edited March 27, 2017 by diamonddriller Quote
sundog Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Any plugin that does its own OpenGL drawing could cause something like this. Unfortunately there's no easy way to know if a given plugin does that or not. Quote
diamonddriller Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Oh dear...... I can switch to using HDR (XP-10, just to remind you), and the blockiness goes. I've never had to bother to use HDR before with SkyMaxx Pro, and I've been a customer since v2.0. I've never been particularly bothered to get the extra eye candy of HDR, and it does put a bit more strain on the system - which heats up iMacs' GPUs a bit more! I'll continue to experiment, but maybe the coming v4.1 will somehow cure this. Quote
