yes, hand painting or other forms of referencing seem to be our last resort. Particularly if u are to sell it. there must be heaps of aerial mapping services out there. Also, what are the restrictions for Bing or Yahoo?

Hi Guys, just letting you know I was told the last version of KMPI I stuffed up, all the runway lighting went missing! Trial by fire, had to learn WED quick to fix it, so added another helipad and tiny taxiway. So it was worth stuffing up in the end, as I learnt the basics of WED at least. So a fixed version sucking into that slow serverbeast called the .org, jeeze it takes ages!

spectacular lighting at Bonneville Kiofka! very well done
-
thanks for getting me up 'early' chaps! new revision just posted to org. those without g2xpl will now see nicer airport textures http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11317&showcomments=1&st=10

I'm chuffed if you guys use my KMPI! It's a very pretty area in Any case. I'll load up the texture update with the new building, some more parking room and a few GAs within an hr. I wish I could join u, I have family commitments and 11pm is past my beauty sleep. Remember to follow all the signs, and bin your X-plane rubbish!
-
hope u enjoy, and as I say the lineshack and better textures should go up today. hehe, sound like Goran! but without the skills..
-
Thanks Oliver! it's available at the.org (and you can vote for it for scenery of the month if u like!) I'll post this texture update tomorrow if I get time, they really make a difference. Ola, yeah I tried that, I wish it was that simple. The underlying Tarmac dominates and stops the lighter texture from showing..might be some scenery group layer setting, really not sure
-
One more for good luck - a close call, I hope I didn't scrape what is possibly the most beautiful livery on the planet...

I see my old bud Kiofka's here too! Thanks to him for some tips he gave me for the scenery. Jeeze I hate WED! I just don't use it enough... So after forensic investigation of LESA, and heaps of trial and error today, I finally got some more subtle textures onto the daytime aprons and taxiways, as well as worked out how to paint on decent looking lighting on the ground textures. Thankyou to Javier for inspiring me to get better! Now I'm stuck - I'd love to know how to make night lighting textures on the taxiways/runways, but just couldn't work it out. Javier and others I notice use an .obj file, flat on the surface, but with sketchup I just can't work out the scale. How do you scale say a 100m stretch of runway and apply the textures without going Wacko? Can you still use a draped polygon somehow, as I did with these day shots? I went max with photoshop & the roof textures on the lineshack, very pleased with the result and not fps hit (well, with Jasons great T6x at least, smooth as silk).

Looks like an amazing game that From Dust. Ha, I think I'm almost 20 yrs older than you Ola, and you're going through all the game types I went through 10 yrs ago. I loved the first GTA for PS2, I once made a buddy walk out because I was a little trigger happy with the sniper rifle & headshots! Good strategy with the partner, involve her so you can get in some good gaming. I haven't bought a PS3 game for 18 months, except for one for the 4yo first officer. I'm using the ps3 as a bluray player, HD recorder and web surfing. But when GT5 comes out, it'll get hot again.

Wow Iank, thanks and thanks to Lebelge!!!!! looks fantastic, I've used both Tenerife and Corsica, wonderful sceneries. worth the huge download, and yes he does great objects too.

just thought I'd create a home for us gamers who might try other gaming distractions in-between x-planing. Could be an exciting year, what with Gran Turismo 5 coming out (1000 cars!!) and now this.... I can remember the feeling when Wolfenstein came out, a momentous event, a 'game-changer'. same with Doom, Half Life and Gran Turismo 1. a big revolution. Now I just played this on the iPhone 3GS. so smooth, so beautiful, another memorable first play, to herald this yrs game changer
-
yep, heaps better, it's easy eh! hrs to build a hangar and minutes to texture 5 square kms! about to post a game-changing tech I've just played..
-
looking nice Ola. yes the default textures are crap. Why not do as I'll be doing, include that 2048 screenshot as a draped poly in your scenery? then others can use G2xpl if they want. I've learnt so much in my own scenery explorations now, but never so much as at the end- after posting my first scenery, kmpi, I had time finally to go back and check out Javier's LESA again, but with new, educated eyes. Javier is a 'freak', so talented. And he said he whipped it up over Christmas! go check it out, but forensically as a scenery dev. I personally learnt more that day than reading any instructions or threads. I stand by my previous statements that it is the best scenery effort ever for xplane. texturing, modelling, faithful replication of buildings...

yep, I think we are down in disc 6, in any case just select your Aussie regions if u don't want the full 60gig world scenery. I do, as it load us pretty quick. for Australia you must go here for Barry's great Aussie airports http://web.me.com/broberts03/Scenery/Scenery/Scenery.html

Bloody beautiful! Had me going there. A gorgeous model, Russians always look the best ;D

So I've finally done it, it's reasonable enough to share, although I'm about to find out if many people DON'T have the cool R2 scenery package. Chip and i have been flying around here for weeks as I've been completing things, the Duchess now needs an overhaul! I only built the control tower (with Chip's design work), all the funny signs, the asphalt signs and the bins (my favourite, the texture came up well). This will go nicely with the Norcal scenery when it finally comes out. Yesterday I was working on a large terminal, but Chip's designs were too intricate, I could see the FPS dropping as I was texturing each wall. So I'm learning to watchout for the no. of faces. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11317 Simon

SimTiles Released! (night and winter textures for photosceneries)
Simmo W replied to luckyluca's topic in Scenery Development
sounds interesting luca. what extra storage are we looking at, say for a 150meg area? do the files have clear English instructions? finally, I have Photoshop elements 7 , not cs3. it has nice potential, great work. simon. -
It's out: OK THIS IS GETTING GOOD. Go here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/efis-app-for-ipad/id385683263?mt=8 This is EFIS-App for iPad. Here is how it works: You get an ipad or two or three, and configure each one to be an EFIS of one sort or another. (We have only a few EFIS options now, with more coming over time). Then, you velcro those ipads to an instrument panel in a cockpit that you make out of plywood or something. Then, you get a copy of X-Plane and a typical projector at officeMax or something. Hook your desktop mac or PC up to the projector and set that projector up over your head projecting onto the wall in front of your little cockpit with ipads-for-instruments. Now, in X-Plane, on your desktop mac or windows machine, turn on the 'efis app for ipad' option, and X-Plane will communicate with the ipads, letting the ipads be very nice EFIS's for X-Plane. You now have a flight sim with amazing visuals projected in front of you, cool EFIS instruments on the panel, and the best flight model in the industry. This is rapidly leaping into the $250,000 class of simulator for the cost of a single computer, a projector, and a few ipads. This is the beginning of the homebuilt cockpit revolution, where it is very very easy to build a homebuilt cockpit with basically zero hassle... efis-app for ipad always works with x-plane perfectly. And with X-Plane, the scenery is great and the flight model is the best. We recently built a sim like the one above to give to my local high-school and it worked perfectly... get out the plywood, saw, paint, computer, projector, a few ipads and some CH products sticks and yokes and get to work! You can build a flight sim really easily now that will deliver really amazing performance. austin ps: one of the efis displays in efis-app is a prototype for the avionics display that i plan to put in my REAL lancair evolution... hit a button and the plane lands itself! this will be in my REAL plane! even if you just want to put the ipads in front of you because you do not feel like building a real cockpit, grab a few ipads and a copy of efis-app and make yourself a cool sim! __._,_.___

You can use more than one sim you know : Yeah, MSFS DVDs are very useful on my coffee table, while I'm on xplane

Thanks Maaaate.almost as funny as our election!

I wouldn't waste my breath it will just fall on deaf ears. I had a conversation with John from ORBX a while back and he was still under the disillusion that FSX has a bright, wonderful future despite the fact that the game engine is unfinished junk and it's development team has been disbanded. I've got a lot of ORBX add-ons for FSX but the problem is their scenery is like putting a silk hat on a pig. Agree, why waste effort. They've invested a lot into MSFS, are having great success and good on them! It's my assessment that they alone may keep the corpse from stinking for a few more years, until they announce their close collaboration with Aerosoft. Whoops, did I guess right?

For the record, the song covered is Like a Prayer, originally a major hit by Madonna in 1989. Livin' on a Prayer was by Bon Jovi a few years earlier (also a big hit). The big question is: should I be embarrassed that I spotted it? well spotted Indi, but I should be embarrassed- I still have the CD SINGLE of Like a Prayer, one of her best ever tracks I reckon. 80s were cool..

so no xsquawkbox? if more issues, try asking in the org support forum

OMG, xtraffic can be a pain. I find plugins used for vatsim interfere, so try disabling them to show the replay. of course RTFM applies. make sure you see the frame counter moving so you know it's playing.
