A further thought on this, I *believe* the might be a "take screenshot" option from inside the X-Plane menu system... Left-hand-side as I recall. I'll look later when I go for a flight, but have a look there in the meantime if you get there first. Cheers James

Hi there, I believe it's to do with the X-Plane display being shown in OpenGL - that "overlay" cannot be captured by "normal" screen capture methods. I've used FRAPS in the past couple of weeks to do just this (and full video captures too!) and it does a sterling job. I ended up paying for the registered version to give full functionality - but for a couple of screenies (depending on what you're using it for) the free version will do a great job. Capture to bmp and then use "mspaint" to save back it to png for decent compression without loss of quality. (The registered version allows a choice of file types direct from the app) www.fraps.com Hope this helps. Cheers James

It's up! Enjoy! "X-Plane Bae Jetstream 32 Interactive Checklists - Aircraft Acceptance to Takeoff" This is the second in a series of demonstration videos intended to show the installation and use of the interactive checklists I've built for use with Javier Rollón's Bae Jetstream 32 X-Plane aircraft - using "snailpup's" Checklister plugin to drive the checklists. http://www.youtube.com/embed/Jq6LUSHGEQA?rel=0&vq=hd720 Cheers! Thanks very much! Glad you liked it. I'll be working on part 2 tonight, which I'm hoping will get us to "Before Takeoff". In between I'll be working on the other Single Engine checklists and getting them created, but the videos should keep you interested in the meantime! Thanks for the support! Cheers James -

Hi there, I've posted an introduction /installation video to give you a preview of what this is going to look like whilst I get some last few checklists completed. There will some additional SE (Single Engine) checklists added, based on good advice from the RW pilot acting as technical adviser. He has pointed out that whilst we get to grips with this wonderful aircraft we will no doubt experience those occasions (whether we like or not!) where we will be forced to limp home one one engine.... so once I get those extra checklists done it'll be ready for release. In the meantime, enjoy! Go to YouTube.com Search for: "X-Plane Bae Jetstream 32 Interactive Checklists - Introduction / Installations" Cheers! James -

No worries AJ, glad to help! I'll be finishing the build this weekend I think, and producing a nice, shiny screenshot-laden document to help people get started. And there's the video of course. If I get a chance I'll pop into work tomorrow to borrow my headset with built-in mic as my previous fixed-position mic met an unhappy end due to a combination of gravity, a wall and cheap plastic housing. Thanks Logitech. I don't think the video will hold up the release of the build though... Stay tuned! Cheers James -
Recommendations for Tutorial(s) on JS32 Radio Navigation
JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Thanks woweezowee and cessna729 for your help, I will definitely work through the material. After a couple of circuits around Gatwick I'm starting to get the hang of it, even managed to set a manual HDG and then tune the Gatwick NDB to shoot for 26L back at EGKK afterwards! Time for a rest and a cup of tea methinks! Cheers James -

JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Hi cessna729, Doing a few circuits of Gatwick like this, to get used to the controls, tuning, switching and knowing what to look for on the instruments: Takeoff from Gatwick EGKK RWY08R NAV1 1.) Biggin Hill VOR-DME 115.10 2.) Ockham VOR-DME 115.30 NAV2 3.) Midhurst VOR-DME 114.00 4.) Mayfield VOR-DME 117.90 So I am going round and round in a rectangle with about 4 minutes or so between VOR's - seems to be going quite well! (The pink line on the Local Map that shows my flight path is getting tighter on each circuit as I get a bit more in tune with it!) Thanks again for the pointers! Kind regards, James -
Recommendations for Tutorial(s) on JS32 Radio Navigation
JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Hi cessna729, I am reasonably familiar with SIDs and STARS from planning various routes in the past, but obviously only at a superficial level! This is a good way of identifying routes that use particular fixes during route planning I guess, which you would be doing in advance of leaving the airport, rather than on-the-fly like I was trying to do! The Channel Islands are my home area so "hopping" between the islands is a favorite pastime of mine - helps me put things in context when learning new stuff, especially the amount times I have flown off/on and around my home island of Jersey. I'm currently reading the tutorials you mentioned earlier - and yes I'm trying to get to grips with the X-IFR03 lesson right now, twiddling my OBS whilst at EGJJ on NAV1 112.20 at 264!! (I'd never noticed the TO and FROM indicator ever before.....) (I've had a vrInsight MCP Pro Combo for nearly two years and have never used the Radio panel! So I'm going to try and start with the basics as you say of tracking TO and FROM VORs and then I'll start doing some intercepts. I see that now, that's a neat little trick, I'll try to bear that in mind when flight planning. I can see now that trying to do what I was attempting was like trying to guess someones phone number by looking at their post code... doh! Thanks again, really useful information. Kind regards, James -

Hi cessna729, This is great! Thanks for this! I've just spotted why I can't get to PIKEY using the radios by the way - It's not a VOR - it's a FIX. Ahem. Now time to put the kettle on, make a brew and start going through the articles you've listed. Thanks very much indeed! Kind regards, James -

JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Hi there, So I was trying to follow the wiki above and I'm not quite getting it - I managed to get myself to the GUR VOR-DME from Jersey EGJJ and at the point of flying over GUR I checked the Radial for PIKEY (which is where I wanted to go next.) It said 265 - so I put my HDG on 265 and then set my CRS 180 in reverse, let the plane turn to 265 and then hit NAV (I know this is wrong, I am clearly missing the right steps here!) which went to NAV-ARM but then nothing. Here's what my local map looks like: So would somebody mind giving me some tips on what I need to do to get to PIKEY? Here's my confusion: 1.) The wiki is telling me that the VOR will have a radio frequency, but there isn't one in the X-Plane Local Map for PIKEY - so who's wrong? 2.) I keep seeing the reference to "dial in the radial" - does that mean I should put the CRS on that number or 180 degree opposite? 3.) How can the plane know the distance to the next VOR if there is no radio frequency? The plane can't just know??? See? Total confusion. (Looks down in shame.) Cheers James -

I'm starting here: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Radio_navigation Cheers James -
Hi there, Please could I ask if anyone has any recommendations for "good" tutorials on Radio Navigation? The reason I ask is because I am trying to learn how to fly JRollon's excellent J32 a bit better than: "Start, Up, Turn a bit, Down, Stop." I've flown simulation for some time now so I'm not a complete noob! - but by the same token I have been spoiled by FMCs that have been only to willing to suck in a route I've generated automatically and then fly me from point to point. In the Jetstream I've figured out a "DirectTo" to the destination airport - but that sucks to be honest. I can see a plethora of material out there, and I was amazed by Keith Smith of PilotEdge's KBUR to KLAS J32 flight and his use of pre-planned and on-the-fly navigation using the radios. But I've got no real idea of how he did it! I think I could piece it together by studying the route and the video he made here several times: But I'd prefer to actually learn how to do this properly. To that end, does anyone have any "favorite" tutorials they could recommend? (I don't mind reading or watching YouTube, and I have both vroute.premium nDAC from Navigraph.) Thanks in advance. Kind regards, James

Hi cruster, Of course! In the "Before Engine Start" I presume? No problem. 0.7 is being reviewed and "corrected" by a RW pilot at the moment (I'm just a home simmer!) so I can ask about "where" exactly this would live... (Update: I've put it in the Change Log document so it can't be forgotten about!) All being well it'll be in build 0.8 which I'm hoping will be the first public release since 0.1 Cheers James -
[IN PROGRESS] A few 1.03 questions/issues
JimboG replied to woweezowee's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Hi there, Since releasing version 0.1 of the J32 checklist clist earlier in the week I have put many hours into getting to what is currently build 0.7, which has dataref integration for about 15+ checklists. What's my point? I have been in and out of that plane and throwing switches countless times doing testing and debugging of the various checklists. I've added "Control Locks Down/Up" in the relevant places to make sure that you don't get caught out with this, and there's even a reminder to switch planes before exiting X-Plane so that you don't lose your axis between XP sessions. Build 0.7 is going through some beta testing this weekend by a very generous RW ex-J32 pilot who has agreed to give his opinion on how close to reality the flows are and any suggestions for changes /errors etc - after which I expect to release it to the public on the X-Pilot library very soon. It works great, speeds up your operations and stops you making a silly mistake causing an engine burnout or other vital step - and it stops you losing your axis if you follow the steps correctly. (I've done all of the above for sure!) I am not saying that people haven't been having some strange issues, but I can say that my axis / prop woes are now a thing of the past and I'm getting a lot of satisfaction out of "doing it right" in the flows. If anyone would care for a look at 0.7 as it stands now please let me know, it's quite usable - BUT: you'll need to use XP32bit as the Checklister plugin is still only 32bit - but at the moment my system using 10.20b11 shows very little to no difference in my settings between the two versions. At some point I will also record a video of this in use for YouTube for those that would "look" but won't "touch" - but I'll wait to see the feedback from the RW pilot first in case it's better to do a video on 0.8 - but maybe 0.7 will cut it. (Update: I've bought the registered version of FRAPS now so I am ready to go when build 0.8 is done.) Thanks very much. Kind regards, James -

Jetstream 32 - Checklist .clist Available v0.1
JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Hi there, Yes you're right - you can't view in 64bits - yet! (Although I haven't tried it personally) I am banking on snailpup digging us out of this one again as he did a few years ago to update all his plugins to support X-Plane 8 and 9. I have PM'ed him already - hopefully (if he is still active at all) he will see my request to port his plugin to 64bit. What I am *hoping* is that: Today - everyone's checklist will work in 32 bit. When 64bit is final and stable everyone's checklist will still work in 32 bit. When 64bit is final and stable *if* snailpup ports Checklister to 64 bit then all existing checklists will be compatible, not just "mine". I am basically banking on him porting his plugin over for us when the time is right. It's just a co-incidence that a lot of us are already flying the Jetstream in 64bit mode because Javier gave us the 1.03 cut that supports it. I don't know how many checklists there are out there, but it would seem a hell of a shame for all of them to be "left behind" when everyone switches over to 64bit. (So I am being optimistic in hoping that won't be the case) Cheers James- 11 replies

Jetstream 32 - Checklist .clist Available v0.1
JimboG replied to JimboG's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Hi there, So just to let everyone know, I am already working version 0.2 which will have "Co-Pilot" automatic checking for the various Items in the "Before Engine Start" checklist. (23 Items!) This will make it easier "at a glance" to see what items are correct in terms of what the checklist is expecting to see, broken down by specific item. (Which ultimately means less work for you to actually check these things are set the correct value!) I'm starting to get the hang of mining the datarefs used and am getting some pretty good results so far. Given that this change to the format will be quite big I'd like to ask for any beta testers that would be willing to try out the 0.2 build which I'll do only for the "Before Engine Start" checklist first in order to gauge opinion, before going too far down the path I've started on. Please let me know if you're interested. Cheers James- 11 replies

File Name: BAe Jetstream 32 Interactive Checklist File Submitter: JimboG File Submitted: 22 Jan 2013 File Category: Plugins and Utilities Hi there, Thanks for downloading this file, I hope you will find it as useful as I hope to as I generally cannot cope that well in the Jetstream 32 without following the checklists - I always miss something and then: BANG! There goes an engine.. again. The intention behind creating this series of (24!) checklists was to help people have an easy way of staying on top of the Jetstream 32 before it gets carried away or you get lost in what it's doing. I've also seen a lot of people having problems that have been reported as bugs to JRollon when 95% of the time it's down to pilot error. Hopefully this series of checklists will serve to negate some of these errors. Please read the "Installation Instructions" - I've taken the time to try and cover most issues/questions, so please check there for any pointers! If you want some visual pointers, I have created the following accompaying YouTube videos, which shows these checklists in action!
