  1. One question - will it be METAR based only? Because it is there that lays most of the limitation in XP weather depiction, specially in Europe where it is very common to find the sector altitude not higher than a mere 5,000 feet... Storms / TS, specially when embeded, are usually another aspect where XPX is very poor compared to FSX / P3D, specially when ASN is used... And... let's not forget: Synoptic scale is required for good blending of data, not only winds and temp aloft, but also cloud cover. ASN for instance uses, through it's own server and processing network, this kind of scale ( and even above it ) for it's depiction and "weather matrix".
  2. Cameron, this is really GOOD NEWS! As a long time user of AS products, and also long time member of the Active Sky beta team, I look forward to try this add-on :-) I'll do it also in the perspective of my real life work, at the Portuguese Metoffice ( LPPT ), just as I did with AS products which are, by far, the best available for the MSFS platform. Maybe we can finally have in X-plane 10 what I've been missing for a long time ... On my recent return to XPX, to test the results of the "torque bug fix", I even decided to buy SMP again - now on v3 ...
  3. Just a THUMBS Up regarding the use of the REMARKABLE LES dc-3 with the new beta, which includes the first torque bug fix. I used the dc-3 with very good results. First flights were made with the standard dc-3, and then I opened and saved it in Plane-Maker, and again, good results were the outcome ( I actually didn't find any difference before and after opening the aircraft in Plane Maker ... ). This aircraft was the ** only ** XP10 add-on which never really gave me big problems with the torque bug, but now I believe it feels even better. There is probably something that is also different apart from the "torque fix" in the latest beta and that is the way propwash effects are being calculated in the sections of the wing directly behind the engine / props... I am not 100 % sure it is different from before, but I believe it is, and also accounts for the torque adding yet another moment against it ( ? )
  4. The topic tittle :-) Thx for any answers...
  5. I believe he says he's staying after all, with the project :-) Let's forget about what happened in the between, and focus on SkyMAXX again!!!! We want it to become availabe ASAP!!!! X-Plane 10 needs it ;-) Hmmm John is Gemini, just like me, that's my bet!
  6. I just hope he finds some alternative way to release his product in the, as near as possible, future!
  7. Thx for your help wim1976. Apparently the problem has to do with the order I install the mu2j and the dc3. If I install first the muj2, then the dc3, I loose the yokes and other functionalities in the mu2j If the order is reversed, then it's the dc3 tha is affected, loosing the animation of the yokes and functionalities like the engine overstress and warnings. I have oppened a ticket with Cameron and he will help me anytime soon :-)
  8. Ok, I'm up here and went to sleep for a while :-) I'll try again in a couple of hours and reprt back... BTW, as per wim's suggestion, I reloaded Xplane a few times, and the "problem" was still there. Would the AP store it's state from session to session? I don't even remember the generic AP connect / disconnect key in X-Plane :-/, but if it's state really get's stored between sessions, than this might well be the case (?) Thx guys!
  9. On my last install of X-plane 10, I picked the "Douglas_DC-3_1.2.zip" installer from my account and installed / activated successfuly. I have a problem though - in the cockpit, W or SHIFT-9 views, the yokes and columns are frozen. The rudders to move. Any ideas? Thx in advance for any help!
  10. Looking really GREAT!
  11. If you can buy only one, I would go for the Saab 340 - not out yet, but thruth is something from LES for X-Plane is like the A2A of FSX..... at least until I'm given reasons to think differently, that's how I rate their products... Well, the MU-2 is not actually LES ( I believe ) but let's consider it is as well :-)
  12. It's the "Blurr".... The Blurr and the roll due to torque are probably some of the most discussed "features" in X-Plane... You will find the most interesting discussions on both themes, sometimes even defending that either is perfectly realistic in the way it is modelled... Both are realistic in RL of course, specially in days with limited visibility and in helicopters with their tail rotor failled, but the truth is that in other simulators, a better blend with reality was certainly found, IMHO.... Regarding the blurr, I believe it was mentioned somewhere at the Dev's Blog that they're considering some sort of fix... For me, flying at those FLs the blurr is really distracting I must confess.... BTW, the MU2 should cruise lower :-/.... :-)
  13. Yes APUTech, I can confirm that too :-/ The only way here is to considerably lower the cloud rendering settings ( I have "my puffs" at 30 % )... I use ELITE for precise IFR simulation. Nothing compares to it when it comes to IFR practice. I have recently upgraded to version 8.6 wich includes the outside view possibility to stretch to your monitors resolution ( while the instrumenT panel still keeps 1024 x 768 with black stripes on both margins :-/, but it looks ok, anyway...) Beware that in FSX the problems with the turn coordinator are also a plague! I have asked A2A and RealAir to fix it, and apparently Rob Young is releasing a new version of the Duke with precise turn coordinator, and Scott from A2A made sure they would implement their turn coordinator with enough precision :-) I was told that the Milviz C310 has precise turn coordinator and is great to train IFR too in FSX / P3D. Watching your flight progress on the map, and in profile view, is better in X-Plane than in FSX IMO, due to the map resolution, unless you use some outside app for FSX...
  14. For X-Plane: certainly the iXEG 737, and when PMDG finally announces their first X-Plane 10 add-on, then we'll see..
  15. I woill try it at ISA, a given GW that can easily be checked or interpolated from the perf tables, then at various FLs and during step climbs and VNAV descents. But I agree it's quite difficult to be done.
  16. No, of course not :-) I am not even IFR rated .... But I believe the professional platforms of X-Plane allow for that. ELITE, another sim I own, can also be used for that purpose. In version 7 it had the same "problem" with navaids range but got solved with version 8. Regarding not beng able to get some stations, I also have that problem sometimes, and if not due to the database having some error, it appears to be tile-related, in the way X-Plane processes the arious scenery elements loaded as flight progresses.
  17. You can use the mouse too. It auto-coordinates your maneuvers, or at least does it's best. It's easy to control fixed wing GA with mouse. Helicopters are a different story...
  18. Thx Carlos, have used it already ;-)
  19. I'll give it a test, maybe this weekend, and will try to report back.
  20. X-Plane 10 could be used as an IFR proficiency / training tool. A friend of mine who is going through his IFR syllabus while working to get a PPL is also an FSX user, but would like to use X-Plane because, among other factors, it's map views are better to analyze the flights, even if restricted to only one scenery tile ( a limitation I really would like to see solved in future releases... ) Now, while we can use X-Plane to practice IFR, it is also true that it falls short when it comes to: - accuracy of the navaids range, depending on type. A VOR / DME / TACAN in X-Plane can be reached from any altitude, indep. of the distance... - accuracy of some instruments, namely the turn & slip and the turn coordinator. While the newer turn coordinator instruments can be used to more or less be able to perform a standard rate turn, and the little aircraft wings are more or less aligned with the 2' marks when we "hand" the commands to the AP and ask for a turn, the older ( bar type ) turn & slip coordinator shows a completely wrong alignment of the turn bar with the 2' marks. On the modern type turn coordinator, and on some airplanes, the turn flown by the AP aligns more or less correctly the aircraft wings with the marks. A turn flown by the AP in X-Plane is more or less a standard rate turn (sometimes takes a bit more than the 2', or a bit less depending on aircraft / instrument panel), but it's acceptable I think that precise turn coordinator and turn & slip indicators would be important to have if we want to really consider X-plane 10 as an IFR training tool... There are more items of course, but I will add them in future posts :-)
  21. Honestly I lost some enthusiasm with this add-on the moment I started smashing into basic FMS programming bugs. VNAV problems are there, as well as other more detailled regarding engine performance, derrated thrust, etc.... I also pay attention to details like there being no influence of the use of TAI / WAI on engine performance, problems with iddle N1 readings when an engine fails (important for inflight restart if possible...), even the apparent problems with CoG that make the main gear look like it's always in the air :-/ I have embraced X-Plane 10 for good, and left behind P3D, but there is yet to come an aircraft comparable to the level of quality that for instance PMDG has given it's users! I look forward for the announcement of their first aircraft for X-Plane 10. I also look forward for the upcoming 737 from X-Aviation :-) My oppinion - the WL 777 is too expensive for what it offers right now.
  22. Good site! I also use skyvector.com - METAR, TAF, SIGMET available too.
  23. Most of you probably already know / use it. It's a really nice app, available from here: http://x-plane.joanpc.com/plugins/xpgfs-noaa-weather You can set up to what level METAR information prevails. Above that altitude / FL, NOAA GFS forecasts will be used to set winds, temperatures and turbulence aloft at various reference FLs.
