Hello! It's been almost half of a year since I released the Cassutt Racer. It's time for something new! It's time for... MX Aircraft 2! From Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia: The MX2 was based on the Giles G-202 aerobatic trainer, the first prototype was a modified G-202 and first flew in May 2002. The first aircraft of the initial production batch of five first flew in May 2005. The MX2 is a carbon-fibre low wing cantilever monoplane with full span ailerons and a conventional landing gear with a tailwheel. It has an enclosed cockpit for two in tandem on recling seats and a single piece canopy. The MX2 is powered by a 260 hp (194 kW) Lycoming IO-540 flat-six piston engine with a three-blade tractor propeller. Optimised for aerobatic speed and agility the MX2 can pull a G-load of plus and minus 12 Gs, giving it tight turns and loops and a range of aerobatic maneuvers. Promo Video 1 (more to come): This project started a few months after the Cassutt. I abandoned it soon after I saw that I won't be able to pull that project off. So, I posted it on the org forum as an unfinished airplane. After a while (a few months ago), I saw it abandoned in my Hangar - In Work folder. I decided to work on it again. So I started the work and I began enjoy building it. I had to re-build the wings, the control surfaces, the canopy, gear, nose of the aircraft and edit the body. It started to look really good, so I continued it. I published a topic on the org about the development of this aircraft which was labeled as [Freeware]. I worked hard on it every day. I had quite some trouble finding a painter for this aircraft but then I remembered Hampster; he made the textures for the Cassutt Racer. He was in as soon as I asked him. So, time started to run, I got the Greg Pee livery within one week. It's been almost 3 weeks since then. I wanted to release the MX2 on the day I got the Greg Pee livery. But since Hampster didn't reply to any of my emails, I started to shape my own white paint. I believe that Hampster has some goodies in his "liveries" folder and as soon as I get them, I'll update the file with the liveries. For now, there are only three liveries: - White Paint (by me, Brent123) - MX2 Default (by Jack Wilette, UltimateFlyer) - Greg Pee (by Hamish Hall-Smith, Hampster) Let's go to the features of this aircraft: - Hi-Res textures - Custom Prop Disc - 3 Liveries - Detailed 3D Cockpit - Highly Detailed 3D Exterior Model - Custom Sounds - Normal Maps (mostly to hide the triangles on the model) - A side menu made with SASL (Checklist, Aerobations & Credits) There are two more acf files, one is v10 and the other one is "If You Dare". Tested in X-Plane 9.7, X-Plane 10.20+, 32bit & 64bit. The creation of this aircraft would not be possible if there weren't for these people: - Steve Hatfield (support, flight model development, betatesting) - Ilias Tselios (help with the cockpit, animations and SASL) - Jack Willette (for making the "Default MX2" Livery) - Hamish Hall-Smith (for making the "Greg Pee" livery) - Jordan Palmer, Nathan Powell & Sara Gomboc (betatesters) - Peter Tram, Oz Grinfeld & others (for support) I'm really excited about what you guys think about it! Please rate and comment! Remember: it won't make the aircraft better if you say that it sucks, neither will if you say this is a great airplane, 4*. I will fix all of the bugs that will appear. Enjoy it guys! Mat -
Org suspended me for one week. This is the last time I used org. I'm sick of those bastards who ban you for a post that you try to explain something in it. So, X-Pilot, here I am! Prepare for my last projects for X-Plane (probably, I'm moving to MSFS later on probably): -MX2 [Freeware] -EMG-5 [Freeware] -Pipistrel Panthera [Payware] -Concorde [?] Enough projects till the end of the year 2014. As I said, after that, I'm going to switch to MSFS since MSFS community actually cares about other projects and helps people with planemaking when they're in trouble. By the way, we're (a huge community of people who got banned from org for no reason) probably going to start a petition to Austin towards the org. PM me for details. Mat

Hey guys! I recently "started to continue" my old project, the MX2. It's going to be freeware and released very soon (probably this weekend) on the org and here. Link to more pictures and updates: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=67964 Mat

Michael, the 787 just looks stunning. I really am impressed, this is a great project! Can't wait to fly it, for real! By the way, about "Eric"... His real name is *censored, "Erik"'s "lawyer" doesn't want it here, lol*, he... He fights with everyone he knows. He's a real douchebag and by the way, M&S Coporation... The M part.. It's me, Mat. Yeah I know, but I didn't have to do anything with that account nor M&S Coporation, it's just a name he liked and used. Sorry to rub in, but I thought it was worth it. Hope his computer crashes and he won't be available to do this kind of stuff anymore. Oh and btw, his names are really... Noticeable it's him. Mat

Looking great, looking forward for this one! Mat

Looks great Michael! Nice ambien occlusion you got there! I can't figure it out in Blender 2.64 Great, great, great, keep it up! @ShadowIGM: ".org has shitty free and payware planes" Tell me when you make a plane and we'll criticise it Please. Make one. We will be very interested. No more comments. I dislike newbies... Sorry guys, couldn't resist replying... Mat

Nice! Maybe add some people inside? Mat

That's really nice! It looks very promising. Mat

Yes, there will be a 3D pit. If it wouldn't have a 3D pit, I'd release it by now

New video! Hope you like it!

lol I'm Sorry! My English failed - once again... @UltimateFlier: true, every Cassutt is different. But they all have a basic shape and a basic design. No flaps. Ever seen an acro plane with flaps? (except Zlin, it's a training acro plane so it doesn't count) Anyways, we are discussing problems on .org now again. For those who are banned from org, I'll post here as well but not as much as I post there.

Check the .org topic (link in my signature) to see more pictures and look here: http://forums.x-plan...340#entry673355 Jack, come on skype so I send the plane to you. Oh and btw, you can't do UV maps cause you don't know how to use blender. UV's are texture regions. And P.S.: this plane doesn't have flaps. Nor speedbrakes. I may add invisible speedbrakes so I get that drag I need. The invisible speedbrakes will probably be driven by SASL plugin.

He doesn't choose, he just doesn't have time for everyone. Even I had to convince him btw, I like your logo
-
Yeah well I don't know if he'd want to do it, he's busy with his projects and other activities. I got him do this cause he's honoured to do that. You might try though.

Hi! Decided to move the topic here for a time being, I got suspended from .org and now I see why people complain. I'll be probably posting there more once I get unsuspended and if I'll have a post block, I'll keep posting here. Cassutt Racer is in it's final stages of development. There is approx. 1 month of work left. I still need to improve flight model a bit, Hampster is completing the textures right now, I need to UV map the cockpit, I'm probably going to give it to Hampster so he can paint it. For now, I only have one huge problem. The drag. Default drag is set to 0.075. I set it to 1.000 - which is way too much! I didn't know that till I contacted Austin Meyer about the engine problems. It didn't drag the plane as it should. There were two wrong things: custom shaped propeller (made it so it looks more realistic) and the way too much drag. I lowered the drag to 0.075 and made the propeller shaped as it should be. Everything was fine but than I remembered why I put so much drag. Cause it didn't want to slow down fast enough. I told that to Austin and gave him the plane. He got the right FPM descend as in the real thing with the speed as it is in real plane. Don't know how he did it tho, I always come at 5° angle to the runway and than float above the whole 3 kilometer runway before I touch down. I was thinking of creating an invisible speedbrake driven by SASL plugin. As I open the throttle, it retracts down and when I close the throttle, it retracts up and slow the plane down by loosing lift or just by speedbrake drag. Is this a good idea? Here's the link to org topic: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=55714 Thanks in advance! Mat

It works! Sized to 1024x1024, works fine! Some tweaks will still be needed for the texture but otherwise, It looks awesome! Here's a pic to prove it! The picture is "Gimp-ed" a bit, I just removed and fixed the flaws on the picture to show you how it should look like. The paint is a bit washed out though. Will have to be fixed. And FYI, the paint was made without having an object reference. I'm a bit worried about the canopy alpha channel (the transparent part, wind shield). It has some circles inside (don't know why) that make a weird effect on other surfaces, including that when the transparent part comes above the wing, it erases it and it's see-through. I hope that this can be fixed. I actually fixed this with earlier model by making those polygons one-sided normals, duplicated the object and turned the normals inside. It was gone. So I'll do same with this one. But the wing still disappeared. Thanks Hampster for this wonderful paint! Any constructive criticism appreciated! (on the plane, not the paint, paint needs some more work) Mat

I will! Thanks I will try! Thanks! The texture was meant to be 2048x2048 but something went wrong so now it's 1200x1200... One more question about exporting UV maps: how can you export an UV map sized 2048x2048? I did it already once but now I can't find that tab where you change the resolution...
