  1. John, Please see this topic. http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/topic/3078-enhanced-scenery-in-xp10/ Thanks!
  2. Wow, Simon! Glad I came across this. That gives me a great idea; I should start creating my scenery without custom images...or any elevation terrain data! Just think how fast I could get new product out! Sweet! RealScenery Melbourne should be out tomorrow...
  3. My guess is that your browser has cached this old page. When you type in the URL, you browser isn't loading the real page but just reloading a cached version, which is no longer valid. Empty your temporary Internet files, then see if the page loads correctly . You could also try another browser on your work machine to see if you get the same result. Good luck!
  4. If you're serious about your flying around Seattle (either in XP 9 or 10), there are some new changes to the Seattle area airspace. The FAA has just released a new terminal area chart covering the Seattle Class B. The physical shape of the Class B has changed, including altitudes, radials, and distances. The PDF file is available from the FAA here: https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2011/Dec/Seattle_TAC.pdf
  5. AVSIM has posted a great review of the Oahu scenery. Check it out! http://bit.ly/tNtqnJ A follow-up to the review with some higher-altitude shots for jet-pilots was posted after the initial review. You can find the follow-up images here: http://forum.avsim.n...-high-altitude/ Summary quotes: AVSIM Staff reviewer Ted Gold looks at a revitalized Oahu with RealScenery's Enhanced Island of Oahu for X-Plane. "Oahu seems to be a great choice for a scenery enhancement aimed towards pleasurable VFR flight and judging from the number of real-world flight tour companies running on the island the place must look great from the air. With diverse terrain, great weather, and being flight-time friendly in terms of getting around quickly in an X-Plane GA aircraft, the folks at RealScenery may be on to something here." "Once I got airborne, my jaw started to drop as the ground fell away." "This is a spectacular scenery package for X-Plane. For anyone who enjoys flying VFR (or wants to learn to do so in a beautiful environment), this will add immersion to your sim flights with easily identified roads to follow, accurate terrain enhancement and placement, and improved night lighting for flight." "RealScenery have done a terrific job here. If you are looking to try photoreal scenery for the first time or love the thought of flying around Oahu and honing those VFR skills in a compact yet gorgeous flying environment, you will not go wrong here."
  6. This is absolutely still planned. In fact, there has been a lot of development work done. No release date yet, however.
  7. Took some test flights over the new scenery! You can see amazing detail in these images. Notice the bales of hay in the fields, sidewalks and the grass next to the streets, and the cars on the roads and parking lots. Very fun to fly over!
  8. Here are some more images I captured while flying to check and fine-tune some of the imagery. Enjoy.
  9. Since I delivered NorCal to X-Aviation, I have been working on our next major release. This undisclosed area will be named as soon as NorCal is released. The new scenery is a major metropolitan area of the USA and uses much of the technology that went into Reno, Oahu, and NorCal, allowing for the very rapid development of scenery compared to the past. This new package was completed in just about 12 weeks! The scenery is complete and ready for release, pending some fine-tuning that will be done over the next few days. Total area covered by this new package is 11,500 sq miles (30,000 sq kilometers)! Much of the area is very dense urban, but there are many small, rural GA airports as well. Nearly 200 airports, all with runways, taxiways, and ramp areas aligned with the imagery, are included. Several of these airports feature regularly scheduled airline service, one of which is one of the worlds largest in terms of passenger volume. Here are a few previews. Enjoy!
  10. Absolutely! X-Aviation has been working hard on the new installer and server back-end programming to make this all come together. You can find out a bit more on the latest X-Aviation blog post here: http://blog.x-aviation.com/2011/10/the-happenings-at-x-aviation/ I'd expect some announcements from X-Aviation very soon! Eric
  11. All of you 3D airport object designers, take note - this may be the wave of the future. You may need to start adding advertising signage on the sides of airport control towers. Medford, a city in southern part of the state of Oregon is considering just such a proposal. http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111005/NEWS/110050317
  12. I hope with the new scenery tools and methods at XP 10 we will see some new buildings being done on top of RealScenery. Maybe someone can model the Robin Masters estate (and the Ferrari). Thanks for the nice comments. They are always appreciated! Eric
  13. Hi fletcherj, Rename your airport file to "apt.dat" and you should see your new airport override X-Plane's default. Also, if you haven't already done so, you can read the WED tutorial here: You can also delete your "earth.wed" file when you're completely done editing your airport. X-Plane does not read .wed files in the simulator when loading your scenery so you may save these files wherever you like as well. Good Luck!
  14. The new forums are great in that you can customize the most recent posts as well. Make sure you look at the options on the left side of the "View New Content" page. I have a bookmark to view unread posts. For me, this is the best way to keep up on all the posts so I don't miss anything. Also, at the top of each forum is a button which allows you to follow that topic and recieve an alert if a new post occurs.
  15. Here are the final numbers: 26 scenery areas 96GB uncompressed and installed 57,000 files Individual scenery areas vary in size (both geography and MB/GB). See map below for reference. Arcata: 4.5GB Sacramento: 3.4GB San Francisco: 2.4GB All areas will be available separately, or as the entire NorCal package, with both download and DVD options. The scenery areas are shown in the following map:
  16. Our plans are to bring all of our legacy products up to the new RealScenery enhanced standards over time. While the upgrade may not be to the whole state, you will at least see many of the major urban areas upgraded.
  17. Thanks, Gene. I appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in the new NorCal scenery. If you have the Reno or Oahu packages, I think you'll find the computer specs are similar. I have a very modest machine by today's standard and get very good performance. No need to worry about purchasing another copy. We wouldn't do that to you! The scenery comes with an installer, but once installed, you can just move the NorCal scenery folders out of your X-Plane/Custom Scenery folder onto another drive. When you're ready to use it again, just move the folders back. It's really drag-drop-fly. Absolutely! You'll be able to purchase DVDs as a backup. In fact, I would encourage everyone to order a set of DVDs. However, you're certainly welcome to create your own backup if you'd like. Eric
  18. No, you're Very Advanced. I'm only Advanced.
  19. Here are some sample images of the quality and accuracy of the water in the new NorCal release. I have a few hundred hours of digitizing the major water features and coastline. I think you'll really enjoy flying over the water that actually matches the terrain. These are in San Francisco Bay.
  20. Man, that's a lot of tunes! Might have to offload some of those songs for more scenery space!
  21. Depends on the size of your HD... Once everything is complete, I can give you a ballpark size for both an individual area that you can purchase, as well as the whole of NorCal.
  22. Yes, we have pricing in mind. Can't release any info until everything is finalized with X-Aviation. Remember, you can also purchase just the areas in which you wish to fly. I think the pricing will be an incredible value for the quality and geographic size of the scenery.
  23. Thanks for the nice comments! They mean a lot to me and others that have made this project what it has become! An incredible amount of work has been put into this latest overhaul of NorCal. After working on this for more than two + years and redoing various aspects of the scenery three times, I'm really excited to see it near completion! The only scenery development left is along the eastern California border. The light at the end of the tunnel is very bright now!
  24. The NorCal coast is all done! Here are some images around Monterey Bay and its famous golf courses. You'll have over 500 miles / 800 kilometers of Pacific Ocean coastline and beaches to enjoy! Monterey Peninsula Dunes Golf Course. Forest Lake is the green lake in the background. Cypress Point Golf Course. The far south coast of the NorCal scenery.
  25. Almost done with the NorCal coastal areas! Just have the Monterey area left to complete, then some areas over on the east side on the California/Nevada border. Here's an image just south of Half Moon Bay airport. California Hwy 1 is main road in the image.
