  1. MSL - height above sea level. So, if your airport is at 1000m above the global sea level, you need to set the beacon to 1010m to make it "10 meters" off the ground. Just adjust that MSL value and you'll get it right. Note that it's in meters, not feet =) - CK.

  4. 3D BumpMaps: Renders Mountainous Terrain beyond 25nmi visibility Gritty Texture Details: Puts a "Decal" on the ground, making it look... well.. gritty when closeup. Grass, Gravel, etc. look better. Have a look at: http://206.80.253.13...732_43.jpg and look at the bottom of the image. The Grass looks.. well.... gritty! Volumetric Fog: XPlane puts in "fog" at > 25nmi to prevent Jaggy Mountains "popping up". Per-Pixel Lighting: Gradually fades in/fades out objects as the come into view at distance... rather than just "appearing" and "not appearing" as you get close/move away. This is what causes the "transparent buildings" effect in X-Plane Win7_x64 or Linux. Note they generally bench at the same speed. If the open source drivers were fps competitive we’d pay more attention but I just don’t see them ever getting there; ATI and NV redo their GPUs so rapidly that it takes a huge concentration of firepower to develop a fully optimized back-end.   5. Hrm, I run XP10 on a 2010 MacBook pro ( which is 2 generations behind your system ) and it's reasonably acceptable. Having a look at your rendering settings... Wow.... no wonder you're getting poor performance..... You'd need a MUCH more capable Video chip to do what you're asking it to do. > with very basic rendering options Those are *NOT very Basic rendering options. =) Those are quite Advanced things you're asking your GPU it to do. 1 - Turn OFF the Global Shadows (overlay or 3d on aircraft is about the max you want - you can 'push' it by going to 'Global (Low)' only... if you dare. 2 - Turn OFF HDR. There's *NO* way you can run that on a Laptop Video Chipset at the moment decently.... HDR is a FPS killer. 3 - Turn OFF Water reflection for now; that's also a huge FPS killer in watery areas... turn it back on if you want to experiment later. 4 - Dial back World detail distance to "high" - less 3D Objects to render. Experiment with this one. 5 - One good thing though - You can probably increase your texture resolution to "very high" as you have the VRAM for it. Nothing to do with Windows, Linux, or MacOSX. You're simply trying to push the 650M beyond it's capabilities. Oh, and DISABLE the "Lock referesh rate to the same as your monitor". You're forcing X-Plane to run at a multiple (or an even numbered divisor) of 30. i.e. If the GPU cant do exactly 30 FPS, the GPU immediately drops to 15 FPS... Not 29, Not 25, Not 23.. Just 30 FPS and 15 FPS are your only options because of that. Hope that helps. - CK.

  7. Bingo..... You're 100% correct in your assessment of the problem that's occurring, and conclusions. Well Done! (Thus proving you're not a Blonde -)...) You are also correct, that you can indeed "import DSF" back into WED. So, if you use OE to make changes to the raw DSF, you can indeed incorporate those back into WED by doing a DSF import. However, as you have discovered, this ends up with duplicate entries inWED. You will need to delete the duplicates from the WED project, but keep the new entries as added by OE. It's a manual process, but works. > Is this a safe way of working or am I asking for troubles again? It is indeed a safe way of doing things. Note that once you re-import, You can move things around in the WED hierarchy pane (the top right window) by click-dragging the entries around. You can also delete duplicate entries (of which many things will be duplicated naturally on re-import of the DSF). This method will work - Provided you don't mind the hassle of re-importing the DSF back into WED, whenever you want to switch from using OE, and instead use WED to continue your work. - CK.
  8. Hrm. Using OE and WED together will generally issues; for the simple fact that WED will overwirte anything you do in OE (when you 'Export Scenery Pack'). It sounds like you used WED to do the layout and place polygons initially, then changed to OE to place the objects/facades; and have now swapped back to WED to do additional polygons. Unfortunately, WED does not see anything that you did in OE. If you now "export scenery pack" from WED, it will overwrite the .DSF you edited in OE. Polygons like that are not stored int he apt.dat, but in the DSF. Worse comes to worse, send us your earth.wed.xml file and your DSF file. (zip them up and post them here), and we can have a look in more detail as to whats going on. As youre using the OpensceneryX characters, they generally are already at the correct "LAYER_GROUP" as alluded to by Colin; however, its a good idea to check anyways, to ensure it's at something "above" taxiways. - Ck.
  9. Unfortunately, that would break compatibility with X-Plane 9. The objects don't cast light properly in HDR mode due to this; however I think XP10 does some attempts as it seems to work on some of them?

Is that from a command line console? is that an email youre getting from the X-Pilot.com webserver? Is that being generated by your Web Browser locally? Does the error identify itself somehow as to what the issue is? Can you give us a screenshot of what you're seeing if you're having trouble describing the error condition? You're Not giving us much to go on. - CK.

  12. This appears to be a summarization of the capabilities of your Video Card, as found by X-Plane. I'll go through each one individually so as we dont miss anything that may be an error or causing weird issues with your X-Plane install: This mentions that Multi-Threading of the video calls is available. However, X-Plane doesnt necessarily do this, due to possible deadlocking situations with multiple threads calling the same OpenGL Driver. I'll go through the line in more detail: This refers tot he ability to break up your software into multiple independent programs all under the same CODE and HEAP Space; each of which has it's own stack pointers. This allows for what is called "Pure" and "re-enterant" code. Users may know this ias a fork(); (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fork_%28operating_system%29) where child processes can be spawned. Care should be taken so that child processes dont fork() thjeir own child processes; else you can end up with something called infinite recursion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fork_bomb). This would result in a stack overflow. This is an underscore character. The ASCII value of this character is 95. It is generally used to create visual spacing within a sequence of characters, where a whitespace character s not permitted, e.g., in computer filenames, emails, URLS, etc... Some computer applications will automatically underline text surrounded by underscores: _underlined_ will render underlined. Other uses include regular experessions, whereas $_ is a special character grouping described as the “default input and pattern matching space” — any output defaults to that variable, and may be omitted. In Perl, @_ is a special variable that holds the argouments to functions. This is a TAB stop, followed by a colon, followed by a '1' to indicate TRUE. ... continued on next post...
  13. Ok, here goes: This identifies the file as being a logfile put out by X-Plane 10.10.r3 and a compile date. This can be ignored. This tells you that this is a log file automatically generated by Laminar Research applications and contains diagnostics about your graphics hardware, installation, and any error conditions. It also advbises that if you submit a bug, you should send them this file. It also warns you that each time you start any X-lane-ish program, this file is re-written. This states that there is another file called crash_report.txt in case the app actually crashes; and you should send that in as well. This says you're running Windows internal build 6.1 (Win7), with SP1. This says youre using a 64 bit build of Windows This Says you're using a Pentium-Class (or better) processor. This says you have 8Gb of RAM. This states that X-Plane can see 4Gb of RAM for it's use; as X-Plane can only address a 32-bit long-word/pointer. this is equivalent to 2^32 memory values. This is claiming you have 4 cores in your CPU; and the CPU type is an i7-class at 3.4Ghz. This is where X-Plane is Installed. It appears to be on a guy named "Rantanplan"'s Desktop. it also states that the operating system's filesystem is case insensitive. Meaning that "A"="a" for all intents and purposes for opening and reading files. This is important when using a case-sensitive filesystem like ext3, zfs, etc.. These are Windows OpenGL capabilities; as described by the Operating system. As Many have the letters "NV", it would appear that many NVidia-specific options are available. This implies that you have some type of Nvidia graphics card; (which will be confirmed later in the log file), or that the OS can emulate these functions either in software or other dedicated non-NV hardware, You have a 32-bit colourspace; meaning you can do a full compliment of RGB+Alpha. (8+8+8+8 bits) A re-statement of the above. Your colourspace is (in reality) only 24 bits (2^24 possibilities) as alpha really isn't considered a colour per se. Unknown. I could look these up for you or ask around if you need to know these 4 values and what they mean. I expect they are openGL/Video Card related. SRGB Capabilitiy is True. Aha, You indeed have an Nvidia Video card. It is identifying itself as an Nvidia GTX 670 in a PCI-express slot. Latest OpenGL Version your nVidia drivers support - Although X-Plane really only uses up to OpenGL 2.1 API Calls for what it needs; but may suppprt some newer OpenGL 3 calles. I can ask around on this. This is a list of all the OpenGL Calls your driver/videocard appear to support.     Err I assume you are asking "How do you add an object into X-Plane": This is covered in great detail in many of the manuals for WED and OE: http://www.x-plane.com/support/manuals/wed/#addingobjectsandauto-generatingscenes http://wiki.x-plane.com/Airport_Customization autogate simply contains jetway/boarding bridge objects that you place into a scene - just like any other custom object in X-Plane. It is no different than adding any other custom object. - Ck.

  18. Heh, came from an existing Freeware MS->XP Conversion of Singapore's CBD from v9 days. I should add these to our library-o-buildings for future-city-work-down-the-road if I can get the rights. Pretty good _LIT textures too.

Only if I delete about 1/3 of the objects! =) - CK. p.s. yes there is a way - by using a placeholder library to replace any unreferenced objects with a 'blank' one, so it loads.... much like opensceneryX does. I have pondered this as a temp fix for now. Problem is, there's a ton of new library objects in 10.10 that I'm taking advantage of... so even thought I could make a 10.05, quite a bit would be missing.
