At last The Mu-2 the way I like it.......
Leen de Jager replied to Leen de Jager's topic in Screenshots
Thanks for the compliment , but why "till then"? Whats else do you plan to add to the "looks" of the model. I added normals and speculars , what do you have in mind to add extra`s to this looks? It might be a major improvement to add normals based on a "thin lines-tiny-rivets" sceme , this however not possible to achieve within the present texture-mapping. E.g. plate-lines on the fuselage can be made on the normal by using two lines (each one pixel wide , we know thats the minimum to get "bump-effect"), this however results in a quiet heavy and a way to wide effect on the model. Using multiple textures giving more pix-per-feet solves this problem. Remapping of the texture (especially the fuselage) onto multiple 2048x2048 files will do the trick, I would be thrilled having such a mapping ,wich enables High Definition texturing on the fuselage the same time. I realise I am quiet spoiled, being used to having that all for years , sorry for that. Rivets should look like rivets and not like buttons and thin lines should be thin lines and not be groves to lay a finger in. If possible, please correct the texturemapping at the fuselage nose , making cheatlines over the nose is quiet problematic and not possible on some positions.(yet) Cheers Leen (Flybike-Paints / McPhatstudios) -
At last The Mu-2 the way I like it.......
Leen de Jager replied to Leen de Jager's topic in Screenshots
Thanks for the compliments. Adding normals, with real bumpy spots likewise the ones on the fuselage of a real old plane ,doing some manual editing on the obj-files to create gloss , making speculars in the normals to prevent de-icing-boots from shinyness, creating the missing "spotlights" for the registration , thats whats thrilling me. I cannot fly this plane ( in fact I cannot fly at all ) , I just like to upgrade it ( make it a little McPhattish you could say ). This time I hardly touched the "default"-paint. Cheers Leen -
The Mitsubishi Mu-2 in a way you never saw before. No more glossless and dull looks. Yes this is the way I like the bird.

I also had a small problem with Ikarus. I ordered correctly nevertheles I did not receive an invoice to prepay. So I took the phone and had a chat with Ikarus headsecretary Frau Waltraud Vetter. All problems solved instantly. Just grab the phone. Leen ps we spoke german and she speaks english too.

X-Plane 10 Scenery porting from X-plane 9
Leen de Jager replied to philipwyatt's topic in General Discussion
I wonder these scenery-files have something to do with your crashes. You might be surprised to see the same log.txt in XP9 full of similair information. I ported my complete scenery from 9 XP9 to XP10 wihout any troubles. Ohh yes sometimes static models are not quiet as it should be on tiny details. When new scenery comes available we can always change to them. For now it suits me perfect. -
Thanks I dailed in on 128 and that worked. Hitting the clearance option made XP10 crash to desktop. Any clue? Leen PS After restart no problems again.(so far) Thanks.

My Flightplan dialog box is missing the VFR and IFR buttons.

Windows Paint isn`t a paintprogram suiteable to make quality paintwork. Better use Gimp or Paint.NET , they are "free" AND real painting programs. Using these programs things go faster and better. Regards Leen de Jager

Very good tutorial indeed. My only question is ,why making a tutorial of making paintwork based on the strongly distorted textures produced by Planemaker wich really is old fashioned by now. Only real flawles paints can be produced by using textures without distortion.( texturemappings by other 3D programs than Planemaker e.g. GMax ) In my opinion the distorted Planemaker textures will be history soon. Red Arrows flight ban lifted - too soon?
Leen de Jager replied to Nicola_M's topic in General Discussion
I really thought this forum was all ablout X-Plane, I cannot see the link. Leen -
Yes, Painting cockpitwindows? Contemporary X-Plane models have real windows. No need to paint them , exept for some very simple , static models. Leen

About a week ago I released a skin for the Robin by XPFR. The one wich came with the "naughtily added bonus livery". Some of you might have downloaded it. ( I really hope you like(d) it ) This time I want to make another special livery. Problem is / was ,the original plane I want to depict has more windows than the default one. This is an open-source model ,nevertheless , just being a simple painter I had to do it with my brushes. Having added normals and speculars as well , I think it looks quiet realistic. No need to say I changed the interiorcolors to match the curtains, to make the "fake" hardly noticeable from inside. I also redesigned the upholstery , pilots face, clothing , books charts, etc. There will be a "normal" livery and a "Baby on board / Bebe a bord " livery. On request, a personalised baby-livery for the flightsimming-young -daddies or -mammies ,grands or grannies ,will be available.(free) What do you think? Regards Leen de Jager

WombatBoy ( Hi Derek) and Kesomir are right, McPhatstudios is well known in the FSX scene (and FS9 for a short while in the past).( the only studio making BIG bizz in selling skins) Till now ( a tiny correction to what WombatBoy wrote ) McPhatstudios released only two freeware paints for X-Plane. These paints were published by a McPhat-guy under the McPhat umbrella.( McPhat-guys are allowed to publish their own freeware-paints under the McPhat umbrella when/if they succeed in passing McPhat`s Quality Control) Just testing the way of painting for X-Plane models, having the future in mind. A bare metal Mooney (for the Carenado bird) and the same Mooney wearing the American Flag during its paint falling off. Leen de Jager

Maybe taken over is`nt the right word. It`s the same plane we are talking about , no doubt. http://www.mcphatstudios.net/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=94&func=view&catid=67&id=22599 Leen de Jager

I want to say what I am thinking. Its hard to find words to do so. This is a drama due to a disturbed mind. It really has noting to do with weapons and permits to have them. This guy had several permits , without them he would have done the same. Generally spoken its more easy to obtain a gun illegally than legally. Being a marksman myself I know. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family. leen

Carenado C172N Skyhawk II here now
Leen de Jager replied to steven winslow's topic in General Discussion
I have the Mooney and I must say , I really like the airplane. The way they mapped the textures is however a missed chance. For FSX Carenado uses three 2048x2048 files for the outside texturing. ( they could have used 4096x4096 as well to achieve a real insane level of detail ) For the X-Plane version they use one single sheet 2048x2048 containing all three texturesheets in 1024x1024.( Waisting a piece of 1024x1024 for some tiny unimportant parts) In other words there is 75% less pixels available for the texturising of the exterior. Compared with FS9 wich only uses 1024 x 1024 the quality in X-Plane is better because we have normal mapping as well in X-Plane wich is something FS9 does not have. I made two repaints for the X-Plane Carenado Mooney and I added specular layers to them as well. Alltough the amount of pixels is less than in FSX this model can be painted in alsmost FSX quality. I am not sure about that. BUT. Assuming Aerosoft being a bit more informed about "Flight" than the average simmer ( they should be anyways) ,them turning over to X-Plane can be seen as a sign on the wall. As I said its all about money. I am in bizz to , I am not that surprised. Leen de Jager

I am not surprised at all. They always go where the profit is. The profit is in the future of X-Plane. I`ll bet they would sell water in the Sahara, IF there were customers enough to make it profitable. Quiet simple , is`nt it? Leen de Jager

Thinking of buying it too. Leen

Question for upcoming aircraft developers
Leen de Jager replied to Xflyboy2's topic in General Discussion
OK ,as you said, I agree , thats all. Is there anyone around with a "lock" to stop? Or can we manage the same, without one? I think we should.
