  3. Thanks V, and well done for finding those liveries. I'm glad I was wrong.
  4. Yep, and still doing it! Got the tail end to do yet (boom logos and reg number). And I think bits of the engine need looking at too, as they look too new. I think this will be a first, as I don't think anyone's done any liveries for the R22 yet.
  5. Testing, to make sure I don't get burned again.
  6. I went back to basics and flew this:
  7. PS. I don't know which version of xp you've got, but I forgot to add if you need helis: EC135 you can find here: http://www.rotorsim.de/ EC-120 here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=3649 Hughes 500 (for later!) here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=8994
  8. There are several helicopter training areas to practise your landing skills and maneouvring on - Heli-School http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=15897 Helicopter Training Area (recommended) http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11814 Sunnyport (recommended) http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=12209 Gymkhana http://lamahelo.chez-alice.fr/gymkhana/gymkhana.htm 3XS7 Bell Helicopter Training Facility http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11221 I'm assuming you've got access to the org. If not, pm me.
  9. The reason the R22 is used in real life as a trainer is because it is basic. Not because it's easy to fly. In xp the R22 and JR are not the easiest to fly. Jimbo wants to explore scenery, not spend his time fighting to keep in the air. The easiest models to fly are the EC135 and EC120, but you may find their cockpits disappointing. For this reason, the next that ticks your boxes (easy and eye-candy) are the MD-902, followed by the BK117. My advice would be start on one of those with the sliders to the right (yes, assisted) and once you get used to it start moving the sliders to the left for more realism. Then advance to the JR or the R22. If you just start off with the R22 you will find it frustrating, hard work, and you'll certainly be seeing your scenery.......... as you pile into it. A lot. This is my rating from easy to difficult. Putting sliders to the right makes them easier still. (Can't comment on the AS350 or the Mil, as they're xp10). 1. MD-902 (and EC135 & EC120 but no eye candy cockpits) 2. BK117 3. HUGHES 500 4. JR & R22
  10. Hueyman Today, 09:35 PM Personally, I would recommend you to start with the Dreamfoil's R-22 ! As it is the simplest helicopter and also the more difficult to handle. What I'm trying to say here is, when you can precisely pilot the R22, any chopper will be easy for you afterward. +1. It's the most rudimentary heli in the box, but also the most demanding to fly. Hueyman Today, 09:35 PM Some people here ( Nicola being the first ) will say the Nils's BK-117... it is a great helicopter, but very very assisted ( Stability Augmentation Systems, great avionic etc ) Actually, I would say Aubrey's MD-902 Explorer is probably the easiest to fly, if you just want an easy-to-fly heli to explore scenery with. JimboG Yesterday, 08:03 PM I am a bit of sucker for eye candy too, so a nice cockpit would be cool in terms of considerations. The BK117 has probably the most convincing cockpit, and has more tune-able items to get it how you want it (interiors etc).
  11. Dang! I knew there was one I'd missed.
  12. Gunship day. MD-902 Combat Explorer BK117 Gunship
  13. Never mind. For some really strange reason I stumbled into the xplane wiki PM manual and managed to change it. Haven't a clue how...
  14. I think you're right. May have success with the 902! Wings are showing up, but strangely only in red. I've tried a number of figures in the textures box and but can't seem to introduce any other colour. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but at least I can do helis with red wings, at least!
  15. The Misc Wings in PM idea worked, but it won't for the BK117 or the MD-902, as they both already have 20 invisible Misc Wings as part of the body. Looks like a few days of reading Dan Klaue's Blender tutorials are in order.....
  16. Here's the finished result. Thanks again, Kieran. I wouldn't have had a clue about using PM until you mentioned it.
  17. It's a stock 500D with Pedrovl's rockets and a wing added in PlaneMaker. If people want it, I might post up a thread on how to create it. It's simpler than I thought it would be. Thanks to Kieran for giving me the tip.
  18. Yay! Result. Thanks again Kieran. Couldn't have gotten there without you.
  19. Thanks Kieran. The two obj's makes sense. I just presumed Blender would have some sort of tie-in with xplane and use an obj that was relevant. Misc Wings looks a bit easier. Thanks for the tip.
  20. Just downloaded Blender. I am trying to make a simple wing/flat box that goes from the side of a heli to hold a couple of rockets. Nothing fantastic or fancy. Just want a simple plain box. I've created the basic object that I'm happy with. Exported it as Wavefront.obj, (as that's the only option that gives an .obj) and called the object nu.obj into the objects folder of the target heli. Put a damn great png folder 512x512 in green and called it nu.png and put that in the objects folder of the target heli. Went into Planemaker and Standard/Miscellaneous Objects, and selected the nu.obj item. It's not showing up when I adjust the long/lat/vertical numbers. I'm not in this for the long haul, as I've no interest in doing 3D. Just want this one box for this one heli. If it's going to be a dog just for a tiny simple item, then I won't bother. Have read the Blender manual site, but tbh I have no interest in doing any animations (their tutorial). Does anyone know why it's not showing up? Can't see what I've missed.
  21. I think some people think Beta testing means it's being released within the next 24 hours. They don't seem to appreciate that one unseen bug may arise which then needs to be rectified, putting the release day back however long until it's fixed. I'm with the rest - it's released when it's released. PS. To me "Vaporware" is something that has been started - and then been given up on. As Goran, Theo and Cameron are still beavering away to get the Saab out, it doesn't come under that description.
  22. Things I expected - but are missing. Tips appreciated. - Stock 3D cockpits are incomplete. Not all of the stock aircraft have 3D cockpits. In particular, the King Air B200, 747, 777 come to mind off the top of my head. But there are a few that do, like the C152, the Cirrus Jet, Stinson L5 to name a few. There are also some excellent free aircraft with 3D cockpits worth downloading, though: The AN-148 airliner - http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11584 The Fokker F27 airliner - http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11933 and many excellent free planes with 3D cockpits from xpfrance http://xpfr.org/index.php?body=aero_accueil - No checklists. Again, not many aircraft do. - Map size restriction - can't find VOR, ADF, ILS, GPS data easily for longer flights. This is done in your planning. Load the aircraft at your destination airport, and go into Local Map and you can then click on the airport for the info you need. Finally, reload your aircraft at the starting airport. Alternatively, download Goodway's free planner and you can plan flights with that, and it will give you waypoints, NDBs etc which you put into your FMS. http://xpgoodway.com/ - Aircraft operating instructions. ( e.g.. take off speed V1, Vr etc.) Most aircraft (not stock ones) often come with manuals that list that info. - Pushback missing. For 9.70, yes. Although here is a link to a plugin that was made that would do that - http://www.xpgoodwayteam.org/site_xpushback/Site/Welcome.html - Charts missing. Mostly you can get these off the internet. - Airport buildings missing. Unless someone has "made" an airport, then yes, you will have empty airports with just the bare runways showing. There are plenty of complete airports on the internet, and a good place to download free ones are at: http://theosdavis.com/xpfiles/downloads_v9.html http://xpfr.org/index.php?body=scene_accueil http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=6 - Aircraft look blurry from outside view. Unsure - Cockpit instrument printing not clear Change your Resolution from Medium to High or Very High or Extreme.
